@ger_77thank you for your warm thoughts, but my kitty is on treatment.  Not headed to the bridge for several years we hope.

Thank you for the clarification; I apologize for the error.  Instead, I'm sending healing vibes for your sweet fur baby!   I've just amended my post.

Good Morning! The sun is shining and it is another beautiful day in MD.  I’m ready for Spring.  We went for a nice hike yesterday, had to take our jackets off as the temperature rose to over 60 degrees.

Just catching up from yesterday’s Daily.  Thank you @cat shepardfor the wine reviews.  Domaine Ste. Michelle Brut, is my go to when sailing on a BHB.  Today’s white blend looks delicious too.  For those looking for a wine lighter in calories and alcohol, I recommend Osmosis.  I really like their Sauvignon Blanc and it is very reasonably price, $14 at Total Wine.

Oreos are my DH’s favorite cookies.  Oh my, have they increased in price.63894427-9E77-4D4D-AB00-32AEE170EFF4.jpeg.ce5402dba56bf46b0782cb95196c3768.jpeg

Thanks @dfishfor the fried rice recipes.  Here is an important tip, use leftover rice, freshly cooked rice is to moist.

As always, I really appreciate the port pictures.  I hope to get to New Zealand ( and Australia) some day but my DH hates those long flights.

Positive thoughts to those who need them.  Cheers to those celebrating and cruising.

Good morning all,

Lots of early Dailyites this morning. Thanks for the rice recipes. I love fried rice. I freeze lots of meals  so I do eat lots of frozen foods. I have not been to today’s port. I had a failed attempt in 2019 and it is on the list for the Grand Australian cruise next year. I have a great dentist but still have extreme anxiety when I go.

Prayers and best wishes to all in need. Have a great day everyone!

Good Morning, thanks for the daily fleet report.  Today’s meal suggestion is one I like and I’d take a plate of any of the recipes from @dfish.  It’s already 40F here and should get closer to 50 by the afternoon.  Yesterday I got a new usb and extra outlet device for our upcoming Zaandam cruise, we are in an OV.  I got this from a recommendation on another cc thread.  I do like the tips and tricks that are shared on this board.  I’ll celebrate dentist day, I seriously don’t like going to visit them but appreciate what they do for me.  I hope everyone has a good day today.

Good Morning from a warm and sunny day at the beach

I really like fried rice. DD and DH love Oreos, always have them in the house. We stopped in Auckland on our last trip for 2 days. My pictures are very similar to the ones posted. We did the HOHO bus one day and the next we just walked all over. We found a Dunkin Donuts! I was so excited as I am a huge Dunkin fan. We had to go in and get coffee. Great treat!

Today I am assisting a friend putting the goodie bags together for the tournament which is on Friday.  I have all the stuff here ,  My dining room table is covered with balls, tees, towels and other "goodies".  It will be fun. DH and DD will distribute them at the  event. DH is going to manage the putting contest. That way DD can stay with him and be part of the event.

Many thanks to all who keep this thread going.

Stay strong and enjoy today

     Charlene

Happiness is having a large, loving, caring, close-knit family in another city. - George Burns

One side of my family was always close-knit but did not get along with one another at all. Their custom was to get together on every holiday and have a huge fight that would keep everyone angry until the next holiday. If they failed to accomplish that while together, they would continue the quarreling by phone until the goal was reached. (Peculiarly, those who did most of the fighting were not the drinkers.)  The other side did not get along very well, either, but mostly left one another alone.

I'll pass on the special days and on the fried rice. The wine confused me, because I didn't recognize Chaleur as a wine grape (it isn't) and in French it means heat. I'll leave that discussion for the F&B department. I haven't been to Auckland.

After I posted yesterday I hosted a Zoom meeting that was so annoying that by the end I was self-medicating with Armagnac, which I had purchased at Total Wine on the way back from Weekawken.

Good morning from what is supposed to be a sunny morning in central Texas, however, from the window by the computer I'm seeing a heavy cloud cover.  Hopefully, the sun will break through before too long.  It is currently 60F and the predicted high is supposed to be in the 80s.  Of course, it's also windy.

Today is another important date in Texas history.  On March 6, 1836, the Alamo fell after a long siege which began on February 23, 1836..  The loss of the Alamo gave the Texians, as they were called then, the will to fight harder and their battle cry "Remember the Alamo".

I always liked George Burns, and I like today's quote.  I think the DDs feel we are the right distance from them.  Close enough to for quick visits occasionally, but far enough away to not meddle, which I wouldn't do anyway.

Like several others, I am not fond of going to the dentist, but I'll celebrate our young dentist who bought the practice several years ago.  He is very patient and caring, and is doing everything to help me keep my teeth.  I also like my hygienist.  We keep some frozen vegetables in the freezer, but I try to get fresh when I can.  Besides meat and fish in the freezer, I try to keep some leftovers for busy days or when I don't feel like cooking.  Oreos are a favorite in this house, but I don't keep them around since the family size bag of double stuff seems to disappear very quickly.  🤣

I like fried rice, but have never made it.  We get it when we eat at Chinese restaurants, but my favorite is the crab fried rice in the Tamarind.  We'll skip the mint julep, which I also associate with the Kentucky Derby.  We'll also pass on the wine.

We've been to Auckland twice, and I'll look for my pictures in a few minutes.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, I hope your family member's not so great week works out well for them and soon.  I need to power wash our driveway and the house, but will wait until a little later in the spring.

@aliaschief  More great memes today, Bruce.  The next to last one has been our social life for the past year.  Sorry about the trash cans being turned over.

@rafinmd  Roy, good news you slept fairly well last night.  Thank you for your pictures from Auckland.  I didn't know Auckland was so close to the west coast.  I guess I should have looked more closely at the map when we were there.

@mamaofami  Carol, have a great and fun afternoon with your grandson.

@kochleffel  Paul, it's interesting seeing the dynamics of different families.  My stepmother's family was a large one, and they welcomed my father into the family.

@summer slope  Dixie, I too hope the treatments for your kitty give her many more happy years on this side of the Rainbow Bridge.

@Seasick Sailor  Joy, sending positive thoughts to your niece that she finds comfort in helping her cat become free of her pain and suffering.  🌈

@cunnorl  Charlene, that is so nice that your DD can be with your DH and be part of and enjoy the tournament.

We have been to Auckland twice. The first time was in 2000 on P&O Oriana, and the second was in 2002 on Volendam.  We hope to get back there someday, and to be able to see more of New Zealand.

Both times, we were there during part of the America's Cup/Louis Vuitton Cup races.  In 2000, we were between the end of the Louis Vuitton and the beginning of the America's Cup.  In 2002, the Louis Vuitton was going on, and DH arranged to go on a boat to watch the race, while I was going to wander around Auckland.  Unfortunately, the wind came up and the race was canceled.

In 2000, we walked around town, went up in the Sky Tower and them caught a local bus tour of Auckland, including a fascinating museum exhibit about expeditions to Antarctica.  Later that day, we took the ferry to Devonport where there was a wine festival.  The ferry ride back was interesting with all the people who had tasted too much wine.  These are some of DH's pictures from 2000 when he had the digital camera.

Our views from the Sky Tower including the harbor.  With my fear of heights, walking on the plexiglass "windows" was nerve racking to say the least.

Good morning Fellow Daily-ites. A beautiful calm day at sea.

One of our own @DeeniEncinitas and her daughter Shawn are celebrating National Dentist Day. Love ya sister!

I do not keep much in our freezer. I think there are peas and tequila in there now..

A beautiful sunrise, very warm on the balcony. Prayers lifted for those needing a boost.

Have a blessed day! 💕

Auckland is at a place where the North Island is quite narrow, and there is a coast to coast walk laid out.  I think I did the original walk in 2003 (16k) and a shortened  (10k) version in 2018.  The photos are from the 2018 walk:

Joy, that was very nice of the vet to make a house call.  It was probably much easier on your niece and Amelia to be at home and not in a vet's office.

Good morning Sandi. The K has one more sea day before Uturoa. I was also confused having 2 Sundays with same dates!! 🤔

I thought I saw a post that Koningsdam had crossed the international date line so I set her to be in the Eastern Hemisphere. I will put her back in the Western.

A little over a month ago, we had our second visit to Auckland while on the Zuiderdam.  After our first visit in 2019, I always regretted not doing the jump off the Sky Tower, so this time a jump was on my agenda.  I told several people I was thinking of doing the jump if I didn’t chicken out.  When I signed up for the jump and while getting ready for it, I kept thinking “Am I really doing this?”  I didn’t get nervous until I was on the platform and the attendant was starting his countdown.  I wasn’t sure I could get my hands off the bars, but I did.  Almost immediately after I began the descent, a feeling of calm came over me.  I thoughtfully enjoyed it!  By the way, if you are 75 or older, the jump is free.

Although it looks like the attendant is having to push me, I jumped voluntarily.

Good morning all!

We have bright sunshine this morning and 33 degrees F. The forecast is still saying a week of snow/frozen mix/rain for the week, but none of that looks likely this morning.

I'm a week late for dentist day, my 6-month checkup is next week.  I like our dentist, he's always joking around and also very interested in hearing about our cruises 🙂  Trouble is, someone always says something really funny when I have my mouth full of dental gadgets and it's hard not to laugh!

We have a freezer full, so I guess you could say we do eat frozen food but I try to use fresh vegetables and fruit.  Love Oreos but can't have them in the house for the same reason as Lenda @Quartzsite Cruiser.

I like George Burns, but thought the quote was kind of sad.  After having our son live across the country for so many years, it's great to have him nearby. And having our DD and the grandchildren close is priceless.

Will pass on the drink, but the wine sounds wonderful.  I do love a good white blend.  I see that our local Total Wine has it for $37.  Also love fried rice, but it isn't good for me.  When I do make it, I use bacon, eggs, green onions, maybe peas,  but have most of the veggies on the side.

Thank you Sandi @StLouisCruisers, Lenda @Quartzsite Cruiser, Roy @rafinmdand Bruce @aliaschieffor the photos of Auckland today.  We're looking forward to seeing it ourselves on the Grand Australia.  I think I'll pass on going to the top of the Sky Tower. 😳

Debbie @dfishI'm sorry you had a rough night last night!  Sure hope tonight will be better.

Sandi @StLouisCruisersWonderful news about your blood tests!

@Mtn2SeaNO way!  But good for you!!

The birds are singing here and flowers are emerging.  Can't wait for spring!  Here's some of the Hellebore after being covered by snow last week.

Good morning friends!  It will be a lovely sunny day today with a high temp of 77 but it's only 47 right now so a bit brisk.  It was gorgeous yesterday so DH got out his power washer and new attachment specifically for concrete so that he could clean our driveway.  Next he has the public sidewalk, curbing and patio to do but I'm not pushing him.  He can do it on his own time.  It looks so much better now.  Here in the muggy south we have a real problem with black moldy crud that mars the cement unless you clean it up regularly.

Well, big thanks to Rich @richwmnfor preparing the Daily and Fleet Report ahead of time for us.  And thanks to all who help out and who post here each day.  Today we'd like to show appreciation to dentists.  Much as some of us don't like them we need their services so thanks to all the dentists out there.  Frozen food is a modern convenience to allow us to enjoy any type of food even out of season.  Oreo cookies!  Love them but never buy them.  Too tempting!  Our George Burns quote is a humorous one.  I can picture him standing there in his suit holding his cigar.  I'm interested to see what Debbie @dfish says perfect fried rice is.  Maybe we're doing it wrong!  Interesting drink and wine selections so let's wait for Dixie @summer slopeand Ann @cat shepard to see what they have to say about them.

Advance thanks to Vanessa @JazzyVfor today's Care and Celebration lists.  Prayers will be said shortly for all needing them and to all around the world in tough situations.  I have a family member who is not having a great week so I will pray that all works out well for them in the end.  🙏 Three cheers for those celebrating happy events and cruises.🎉🎉🎉  Enjoy yourselves as we salute you.

Our port today is the city of Auckland, New Zealand.  This has been the port once before on April 27, 2022 so below is the link to Rich's post that day.  Please show us your photos and I will do the same.  Thanks in advance!

We ended a 39 day Asia-Australia-New Zealand cruise on Diamond Princess on Dec. 23, 2013.  Since our flight wasn't leaving until early morning Christmas Eve we had a nice full day to explore Auckland.  Our view at breakfast from our ship.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVLncRQNrfx_XkXf9SGPL9Bp?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1388712010

Our hotel was located on that adjoining dock, the Auckland Hilton.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVLZtEjRt9-QPKog6bgDbwFC?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1388712004

We disembarked the Diamond Princess and checked in.  The concierge there helped us clear up a problem with our airline that we learned about that morning then we headed out for a walk around the downtown area.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVLtswcCyvt01EA5RkZoVPWF?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1388712027

The streets were busy with Christmas shoppers and the usual city traffic.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVKQLiIItn-jZBqHrT54Nw06?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1388712042

Later that day we joined others outside a fenced area and waved goodbye to the Diamond Princess as she continued on her next voyage.  The following morning we flew home (Dec. 24) and arrived home in Georgia that same night, on Christmas Eve.  00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVLJu2KQbQ7ZI8DDj-dge-j3?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1388712129

The next trip there was near the end of our 2017 Australia circumnavigation/Tasmania/Papua New Guinea and New Zealand cruises on Sun Princess.  That was a little over two months.  Each of those four cruises began and ended in Sydney, Australia so we were lucky to spend quite a few days in Sydney itself.  We were in Auckland Dec. 5, 2017.  This shot taken from the Sun Princess shows a BHB at the other dock.  I can't quite read the name on it.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVLz1HZiTHB3RsqBcmlk4Mw2?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1513626686

The next day we attempted to see the Bay of Islands but due to swells we were unable to tender over.  And believe me, several types of boats were tried out, but it wasn't safe.  My view of the Bay of Islands00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVKd_qHErgI4GD_gpKL99kMe?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1513626840

Hope you enjoyed these photos of our walk around the City of Auckland.

I have my annual physical this morning so hope everything comes out fine.   The blood tests already came back nearly perfect so I'm happy about that.

Have a safe day everyone!

Auckland is at a place where the North Island is quite narrow, and there is a coast to coast walk laid out.  I think I did the original walk in 2003 (16k) and a shortened  (10k) version in 2018.  The photos are from the 2018 walk:

By contrast to the above elegant station, the Northern Explorer now leaves from a hidden away container place:
