Good morning.  Thanks for the daily update.  It’s nice that bats have their own night, they work hard while we’re asleep.  More herbs and less salt is a goal that everyone should aim for.  I need to work on being a more patient motorist.  The meal and drink suggestions sound tasty.  The quote sounds like someone didn’t like paying his taxes.  I haven’t been to today’s port. Prayers for everyone on our prayer list, I pray for a miracle for baby Murphy.  Cheers to everyone celebrating happy events!

Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Dixie, and Ann.  Bats are very useful but I prefer them from a distance.  We need more motorist consideration but less salt.  I've been to San Pedro several times but always on Crystal.  Interesting quote by Vaughn, and I expect there will be celebrations today in Brazil.  Not sure about the meal.

I learned yesterday that my September-October NY-Quebec-NY cruise, up on QM2 and back on Crystal Serenity will not be returning to New York but to Bayonne.

Good morning from a sunny 63°f North East England.

I never add salt to my food.

A lot of motorists have no consideration for other drivers but I always try and be considerate when driving.

I love today's quote as it is so true.

Today's food and wine get a 👍 from me.

Prayers 🙏 offered where needed.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Thank you for today’s R & D, Rich! Last night the almost full Blue moon looked fuzzy & out of focus. Perhaps high level fog, or a very thin cloud cover. It was so dark this morning, Bindi did not want to go out. She is getting picky.

Vanessa, thank you for keeping up with all of us! I have a doctor’s appointment- time for my hearing check up. Then Bindi walks, gym, chores should keep me busy. Most likely no pool time today.

Prayers for all who need our support. @smitty34877 hoping that Lou and Tana have good days from now on. Please take care of yourself, too, Terry. @cruising sister praying for baby Murphy, her family and her medical team. I can not begin to imagine how difficult this time has been for her parents.

Please get well & stay well everyone!

Good morning friends!  It's 70 and dark out right now.  Our high will be 86 with parly cloudy skies.  Might get a shower or two today.  We had some heavy downpours late yesterday afternoon (after my nap) and during dinner.  Tomorrow should be our rainiest day.

Thank you Rich @richwmn for our Daily and Fleet Report.  Nancy @ottahand7 had her issues with bats this week, something I hope doesn't occur here.  Using less salt would benefit most everyone.  I try to be a very considerate motorist.  A rather sad quote but true.  As for the menu suggestion, cocktail and wine I would enjoy the wine but would skip the kebabs and drink.  An important day in history for Brazil.  Thank you Debbie @dfish, Dixie @summer slope, and Ann @cat shepard for the F&B reports.

A lot of prayers offered up for those on the Care list, especially little Baby Murphy who has had such a difficult journey.  Also to @Live4cruises's DH Nicholas, Terry's @smitty34877 Lou and Tana, Annie @marshhawk and Chuck @catmando as well as Chuck's Momma.  Hope Paul @kochleffel is feeling okay this morning after he had that tumble yesterday.  First prayers always go to DB, then my friend's DB Mark.  Please everyone stay safe from Hurricane Idalia!  Go inland if you're on the coast.  I need to check on DGD Morgan who lives in Tampa and goes to university there, so prayers for her and her roommates and fellow students.🙏🙏   Congrats to our Celebration list folks!  Enjoy your cruises, too.🚢  Thank you Vanessa @JazzyV for our lists each day!

The port today is San Pedro, California.  It is one of two ports I know for the Los Angeles area (Long Beach being the other).  We have been in and out of San Pedro quite a few times, all on Princess.  We also have family living in the Los Angeles area so have visited before.  San Pedro and Long Beach have never been port of the day before, but Los Angeles was the port of the day on July 4, 2023, 8 weeks ago.  Here is the link if you want to retrieve any photos.  I don't believe I posted any but have a photo or two of San Pedro I can show today.  No big deal.

Link for Los Angeles

This is a photo taken from our flight out of L.A. after a cruise.  The city of San Pedro is on the left side and there's a ship or two down there.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVJf7OER6oFp5hXFexpfzlsT?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1345122417

Later we met DH's uncle and cousin at a different restaurant and enjoyed a visit and dinner.  This is the view from the back deck of that restaurant.  We saw this NCL ship leaving.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVKOBNKGkWpYc1KJVRD74yHr?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1365182169

Woo-hoo!!  I just checked the HAL website to see if they'd updated our Mariner Society standing.  Thanks to generous counting of spending dollars due to Have It All, we are finally 5 star Mariners!  We are still a ways to go from Gold Medallion status though.

A very early good morning from central Texas.  It is 72F and feels like 72F.  The humidity is 65% and the dew point is 60F, so it shouldn't be to bad when I mow the yard this morning early, especially with a 5 mph wind.  Our predicted high is 96F.  It now looks like we won't be back in the triple digits until Friday.  Our forecast seems to be a moving target this week.  It will be a busy day since DH has a dentist appointment at 1 pm that could last quite a while.  While  he's at the dentist, I'll run a few errands, and then be ready to pick him up.

It is always interesting to watch the bats fly out of Carlsbad Caverns at sunset.  Those living in Austin can see them leaving the Congress Street Bridge at dusk in the summer.  I don't use much salt when cooking and not very often on my food.  We try to be considerate motorists, but many see to leave their manners at home when they get behind the wheel.

Today's quote is another interesting one.

The meal might be good, but we'll pass on the drink and the wine.

We have sailed out of San Pedro several times.  We have also driven around the town before going to the port.  I seem to only have pictures taken from the ships as we sailed.

Today is a big day in history for Brazil.

As I mentioned, we have sailed into and out of San Pedro many times.  Even though we have driven around San Pedro a couple of times, I don't seem to have any pictures except from various ships.  These pictures were taken as we sailed on Golden Princess in 2012.

Good morning. It’s 76 degrees a little cooler but probably because we had a band of rain pass through a couple of hours ago. Thoughts for fellow Floridians in the storms path. Our area may get some more needed rain and high surf but that’s it.

Try not to use salt with exception of popcorn and fries.

Glad my Sue is flying back today and we should be fine flying to Seattle Friday. We will spend the night in Seattle then drive to Depoe Bay, Oregon for a two week stay.

Too many on our Care List but know you’re in our thoughts and prayers.

Thanks Rich, Vanessa and all who keep the Daily a daily habit.
Stay safe. Bruce

thanks for our Tuesday Daily, Rich.

And thanks to Dixie, Ann, Vanessa & Debbie.

Interesting collection of days.  Bats are important to the environment as long as they are outside and not in the house like poor @ottahand7 recently experienced.  Consideration in driving is important and more herbs and less salt is my mantra 🙂

LOL on the quote.  All the F & B of the day sound good - especially the white wine.  Delish 🙂  Today should be a real celebratory day in Brazil, for sure.

IMG_1009.jpeg.f0046d51d18566fce0f1a687dd5db55e.jpeg

@StLouisCruisers congrats on the 5* status.  I am actually surprised that you weren’t 5* already with all of your cruises.  I keep forgetting they weren’t all on HAL 😉

IMG_1013.thumb.jpeg.f929be0c4d653907454228153d02d934.jpeg

Ivan and I had a nice visit with a neighbour yesterday along with a glass of wine 😉 He climbed the steps to her deck 👏 👏 👏 and at the rate he is playing fetch this morning i would say that it is with no ill effects 👍.  She couldn’t believe the shape he was in now.

IMG_0868.jpeg.65ec15e391cce1a3fdf60b8e0875418a.jpeg

Of course, the visit meant I didn’t get everything done on the list but I did get the sail away reserved signs done and laminated for the roll call.  I did get the freezer rectified though.  Yup, the contagious appliance bug has bit me.  It’s frosting up too fast.  Fortunately I took the extended warranty and they are sending me a new gasket.  Supposed to be easy to put in according to their video 🤞

IMG_1008.jpeg.12460b2b445277465db8ac576105372f.jpeg

Guess the outside work will have to be today.  Big rain coming tomorrow (again) according to the weather man - nothing to do with Franklin. that’s in another day or two.

Prayers for those on the Care list, those suffering loses, heal issues, worries and extra for those in the path of Idalia.  Please stay safe. Cheers to those on the Celebratory list and cruising 🥂

Good morning and Happy Tuesday. I’m awake early and will try to go back to sleep soon. Seems to be my routine several times a week.

I texted with my cousin last night and my aunt probably only has a day or so before she passes. They have been giving her pain meds every two hours and said she was comfortable. My DM can’t believe it. It will be a blessing when she passes. My uncle looked so worn out. Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts.

Craig’s sister and DH left yesterday morning. We had such fun together. Sandra, his sister, always wants to know what I’ve been cooking lately and asks for lots of recipes. I showed her how I make my bread too. I’m quite the cookbook collector and I sent 8 home with her to borrow. She was trilled.

The smoked whole chicken was a hit. The cherry wood chips were good but not strong enough so I ordered chunks for next time. The flavor was much better than the mesquite. DD’s SO likes mesquite so I think I’ll give my supply to him. He uses pellets.

I like today’s meal suggestion and can’t wait to see what recipes Debbie posts. Today I’m making homemade pita and tzatziki sauce to have with meatballs and some other toppings like olives and grape tomatoes.

I have been to San Pedro but just to board a Carnival ship.

Robin @Live4cruises, how is Nicholas doing?  I have been thinking about him and praying for a quick recovery.

Special prayers for Baby Murphy.

Thinking about Lou, Tana, Terry, Terri, Chuck, Annie, and everyone on the Care List.

Have a great day everyone!

BTW, I’ve been meaning to ask, well actually just comment —

have you all noticed recently how many threads get moved to other boards/topics?  It seems to be much more than usual. I know some are generic but a lot of posters don’t visit those other topics, like me.  Almost makes one hesitate to ask a question.

Good morning and Happy Tuesday. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet reports.

Cooler and a little muggy today. This humidity is awful. Working in the office today.

I am scheduled for an MRI on 9/11/2023. An adrenal mass was discovered in 2019 when I was hospitalized for gall bladder issues. No one was very concerned at the time. My doctor at my last appointment just wants to follow up with it.

Last night, Fancy decided to chew on my coffee table. Luckily it is old and we have been considering replacing it. She does keep me on my toes.

Thinking of all on the care list.

Celebrating with all who are celebrating.

Have a safe and healthy day.

Most of my visits to San Pedro have been either embarkations  or disembarkations but in 2018 it was a turnaround day and port of call.  I spent the morning at the USS Iowa:

Working my way up in quarters, first enlisted:

Finally, FDR spent some time on the ship and this is the Presidental suite:

Crystal allows passengers to bring guests aboard at most ports and I had a couple of Cruise Critic friends over for lunch at the Trident Grill, Crystal's equivalent of Dive-In:

Finally @Copper10-8had alerted me to a fire boat in the San Pedro Harbor and I caught it on the way out to Maui.

Good morning everyone.   🚫 to bats.  Now every strange sound in the evening I think one is coming in.   I use a lot of herb blends from Penzey's many of which are salt free, I try to be a patient driver, it is much easier here in Michigan than it was living near Baltimore.  Don't agree with the quote. We used to have an elderly financial advisor on our Sunday morning news in MD.  He was philosophical about taxes, "if you are paying taxes, it means you made money". Several large lottery winners in MD went straight to the tax advisor Julius Westheimer.  I learned a lot from his segments on TV.  The kebabs will probably be tasty, today's drink minus the mint would be nice and it looks like a great value SB. Very few days do I see a port I don't want to visit, mostly those are in Asia.  Thanks for sharing your photos. Thanks to all our daily contributors each day.

I hope we can get some better news about baby Murphy today, continued prayers for her and her family.  Prayers for all in the path of Idalia, especially if you are in one of the counties that have mandatory evacuations.  Prayers for Lou and Tana.  Prayers for everyone needing them, the citizens of Maui and the people of Ukraine.

@kazu I hope your gasket installation goes more smoothly than our replacement sink hose from Kohler.  It was free because of lifetime warranty, just email a few photos.  Their directions sounded easy, just remove the old one and push the hose down the tube.  John tried a long time, for a while even the old one wouldn't go back down.  Finally he got the old one put back in place.  At least it works, it just leaked.  I guess it will get installed when we get a plumber out here, hopefully not for many years.

@StLouisCruisers congratulations on your 5 star status.  I am getting close due to profligate spending and staying in suites.  Enjoy the upcoming specialty dinners going forward.             Apologies to denisr can't remove your bubble.

@DenisR

It is a gray and windy day.    If I didn't have necessities coming in from Amazon to the post office on Thursday we would be going to town.   My sister is due here today for an extended stay.   She had been expecting her son from Colorado but unforseen circumstances ended that.  She will have dinner with us daily.  I have a little more sanding on the front of the cabin but I have a feeling I will be inside all day so housecleaning for me.

@Denise T your problem sounds something like Debbie dealt with for a long time.  I hope they can get a resolution.

Simple dinner of BLTs.  Have a good day and stay safe everyone. Nancy

I’ve been in and out of San Pedro a few times, more often out than in. The pictures make it look nicer than I remember!  But I do remember it being an interest industrial port, lots happening.

@rafinmd Roy that change to Bayonne will likely affect how you return home, assuming by train. But you can get Amtrak in Newark. You might have to Uber up (north) to the train station (Newark Pennsylvania station). Or if there is reason to begin in Manhattan, the Newark Penn station has the PATH tubes under the Hudson, might not be easy with luggage although I know you pack light. This is all rather a nuisance, sorry for the complexity.  Drivers dislike going across the state line.  Maybe the ship will have a transfer bus into Manhattan but I’d think that’s unlikely, just to the airports usually, unless because of their change they are more accommodating.

My niece is on her way to us now from NC, staying the night here on her way to NY for a few days’ break, returning to us Saturday. Then we all leave Sunday. I’m at the YIKES stage- when time is feeling short, piles are growing but nothing is packed. It’ll all happen.

I was in a fog yesterday. I made a Key Lime Pie for tonight’s dinner with our guest but I totally forgot to separate the eggs (uses only the yolks) and then couldn’t understand why it took too long to set, and I may have overcooked it. I think I’ll make a proper one today. Put the other in the freezer, maybe bring it up to the grandkids, they can laugh about it with me!  We can enjoy it together for whatever it is.

I have a nephew in Crystal River FL in Idalia’s path. He has a trailer home in a wooded, wet area. He’s been removing trees, I hope enough! Had one fall and damage his mom’s mini-pickup a few years ago but he was able to fix it. Blessings to all in the storm’s reach, all those evacuating, all the decision makers and all the rescue workers who will get emergency calls from desperate people who didn’t plan ahead. 🤦🏼‍♀️ May they all be safe.

Blessings for all in need to healing, comfort or hope.

Cheers to all celebrating milestones and accomplishments, Life is Good!

Smooth travels to all away!  Especially our cruisers.
Wondering about our ship… NCL Joy cancelled her Bermuda port this week (along with RCL Vision, Carnival Magic and one other) due to Hurricane Franklin but I don’t know where she went instead. She’s due back to NY Monday for us to board. I’ll assume she’ll be there until I hear otherwise.

Thank you @JazzyV for capturing all our doings!  Everyone stay safe!  And thanks for being here.

I did this once making ice cream and couldn’t figure out why it looked like scrambled eggs when making the custard. I reread the recipe and realized what I had done. Had to go to the store for more eggs and start over, 18 eggs later I finally finished the ice cream.
