Good afternoon everyone.  We are back from the Urgent Care facility.

However, first i want to assure Vanessa, @JazzyV of my prayers for relief of her pain. i am so sorry you are going through this terrible pain.  I wish I knew how to tak it away.

When we went to the Dermatologist and she saw Jim’s knee she also suggested that he needed to get it X-rayed.  I told her where we were goin.  However, she told us of an Orthopedic Urgent Care not too far away.

So we went home and had a quick breakfast and off we went.  We had to wait about an hour to be seen, but part of that time was taken up with filling out voluminous forms.

They took x-rays of both legs and his neck, which i thought was good. The x-rays revealed that there were no broken bones, but he has bursitis and a lot of the fluid has traveled down to his ankle, causing that to swell.  There is arthritis on the neck, which is to be expected at his age.

So he has to keep icing the knee and keep it elevated when sitting and minimize walking.  He is also on a round of steroids and an antibiotic to avoid infection.  He has to go back next Friday.  If the knee is still swollen, they will drain it.

i was very impressed with the facility and the care he received.

It is expected that he will be fine by the time we go on the cruise.

Thank you all for your prayers and support.

God Bless.

Terri

Started making and delivering Christmas gifts today. I made greens (turnips,  mustard, and collard) ham hocks, and pork chops for our guy's whose wives can't stand the smell (lol) I had 2 spaghetti pots filled and delivered to 6 neighbors a little bit ago. I added a bottle of Trappey's peppers and a bag of cornbread mix.  You'd think I delivered a pot of gold!

@JazzyV darn it I wish you will start feeling better soon.

Many thoughts to our dear friends here.

I wish I lived closer!Great presents for your friends though…..

The phones seem to be straightened out for the most part. Drove down to the phone center store and the old phones ARE STILL backing up photos! Now ithe "cloud" is attaching the original date that the photo was taken instead of the upload date so I am happy with that. A lesson to be learned is to not keep a phone five years without backing up. Some apps didn't transfer so arranging/rearranging that. Camera appears to be much sharper. One of the Utilities is a magnifying glass. That will be very handy in the future! Glad we did it!

Once you get used to the IPhone you will love it.  I’m so glad it’s all straightened out.

I didn’t take a camera on my cruise.  All my photos were with my IPhone .

It's 56 and sunny now, the start of a few nice days. I don't know what to do with myself. I had the same almost 3 hours of sleep. After getting up I had the usual leg/back pain, but it didn't subside or wax and wane like it typically does. Driving hurts a lot, keeping my leg on the accelerator. I had my appointment with the Neurosurgery PA. I had to park a ways away, and it was agony walking to the office and just sitting there. So now I'm scheduled to get an MRI and lumbar spine x-rays. I'm increasing the Gabapentin again and ordered a muscle relaxant. I'll see the surgeon in mid-December. I'm to continue PT and working on losing some weight. I stopped in at PT to schedule and they felt sorry for me and put hot packs on my back and leg. I had planned to make a couple of other stops on the way home, but was just in too much pain. I finally got some relief sitting at my desk now.

Oh gosh, Vanessa.  I hate to see you in so much pain 😢. I hope the meds and PT can help until you see the surgeon.  🙏

I went down to the dining room to let them know we wouldn’t be there this evening and was told the changes in the itinerary are because of the weather.  Perhaps it was all announced and we didn’t know as we were so late back to the ship.  So I take it back what I said about the Captain!

so we lose Cádiz, Lisbon and Funchal , instead Las Palmas and Tenerife, on the 5th and 6th, Rich.

Oh rats, Ann 😡. Those ports are much nicer than the alternatives but it is what is I guess 😔

Good news, Terri.  So glad nothing is broken and bursitis can be dealt with 👍

So glad to hear you liked the facility.  One to put in your back pocket for the future “in case”.

Good afternoon,

I am really late to the party. DB is doing better but they are having trouble with the culture of wound. He was on oral antibiotics before surgery which makes it more difficult. The surgeon is working with an infectious disease doctor and they will start a new oral antibiotic until the culture is final and then they will start IV.  Baby Murphy likes her new room. Mom was able to hold her upright for the first time since pre surgery. PT was impressed with her strength and holding her head up. She has been on her back for 4 months.

Terri, I am so happy you got directed to an ortho UC. It was perfect for his problem. Vanessa, I hope PT and increased Gabapentin helps with the pain. Darn on the tooth problem. Dental issues scare me more than anything.

Everyone seems to be having fun on their cruises. You can have fun on any line you choose. I chose itinerary and price when I book now. Everyone have a great rest of your day.

Terri @Cruzin Terri it's a relief to hear nothing was broken, and that the orthopedic urgent care did such a stellar job of caring for Jim.  With all the instructions and the meds he got he should be good to go for that cruise.  Take care now!

Lorraine, thanks for the updates on DB and Baby Murphy.  I hope things work out well for DB's wound and antibiotics.  It sounds like they are keeping right on top of the situation.  As for Baby Murphy, it's so encouraging to hear how strong she is, that her Mom could hold her upright and that she seems to like her new room.  Keep up the great reports on her please.🙂

I'm so glad you got this checked out.  This is a perfect example of why it is important to do so even if  you don't suspect something is broken.  May Jim heal quickly and be at his best for your cruise.

@JazzyV  I am so sorry about your pain problems.  I sure hope they can figure something out quickly because you've been in pain way too long and yes, pain does have a bad effect on overall health.  If you need the pain pills for the short term, do take them.  As my orthopedic surgeon told me, there is no need to be a hero and suffer.

@kazu Jacqui, I am thinking it was you who stayed at a lovely hotel in San Diego that really looked good to me, but I can't remember the name of it.  Can you enlighten me?

DH liked the Chopin vodka best.  He appreciated getting to taste all varieties!  I preferred champagne of course!  Were the vodka bottles placed in the holes cut into a block of ice?

Our FedEx package arrived.  Finally.  They made the mistake of sending me an email asking for a review of the delivery.  Oh boy...

The vodka was served in small cylindrical shot glasses that were being held in a wooden holed tray similar to what you get at a beer tray sampler just smaller.

Quality. It was smooth.

What great news on Baby Murphy 🙂 👏 👏 👏

I will keep praying for both in the hopes they both continue to improve 🙏

Debbie, it’s the Westgate Hotel.  My friends told me about it and swore that was now their only place to stay.  I LOVED it.   And it was cheaper than for example Embassy Suites.

The happy hour is a deal with the charcuterie much cheaper and the fish tacos are yummy.

The restaurant is beautiful.  The harp is unbelievable and if you are there on the right nights, there is music.  It’s a wonderful spot with great staff (and I think you know I am VERY fussy on my hotels 😉 )

highly recommend it.

Hate to think that I am going to develop some bad habits on our upcoming cruise.  Have never drank vodka neat and can't remember that last time I tasted caviar.  I was wondering if their caviar came from Russia.  Looked it up and found that China now produces most of the world's caviar on fish farms.  Kaluga Queen is a Chinese variety that they advertise that they sell mainly to airlines and private jets.  Guess Seabourn falls in that category.

Not Jacqui but it’s the Westgate San Diego. We are staying there starting Monday upon the recommendation of Jacqui when she stayed there pre cruise. I’ll try to post some pictures and tell you how I like it too. It’s possible that we will book it for the Hawaii cruise based upon our stay.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.  By the way - to the left, down the street is a supposedly high rated fish place.  Marcia and i went there on turnaround day.  It was good but I didn’t think it was as great as some of the reviews i read.  I’m probably overly fussy 😉

Good afternoon, @JazzyVI hope your pain problems can be figured out sooner, rather than later...It's miserable to be in such pain.  @Cruzin Terrigood to hear that nothing is broken, hope he's good for your cruise.  @cruising sisterGood to hear that baby Murphy is liking her new room, so happy to hear that Mom is able to hold her!

I'll take a stout beer, we always get some Guiness for St. Patrick's day.  Our dear GS was in Ireland and toured the facility.  DSIL was also there for work and had a few!

All of the people on ships are making me jealous...we have to wait a few months!

Have a good evening, Karen

Good afternoon from a warmer, 70F, central Texas, but the clouds are trying to move back in, and the sun keeps breaking through.  Today has not gone quite as planned.  I got my hair cut, but never made it to vote.  I'll do that Tuesday on election day, and our poling place will be a lot closer than the early voting location.  At least, our county now has three or four early voting sites instead of the just at the courthouse.

We are finally beginning to make plans for the migration to Quartzsite with the departure date yet to be determined. We've about decided to keep the old motorhome for now, until we decide if we'll be traveling more in a motorhome in the future.

We've known for a while that both the coach and engine batteries need replacing.  DH went out to start the motorhome so he could back it out enough to get to the battery compartment open to charge the batteries.  He needs to get the motorhome up to our corner station for new batteries and the state inspection.  It turns out we waited a little to long, and the batteries do not have enough power left to start the motorhome.  Where it is parked in the port, there is a support pole keeping the compartment door from opening enough for us to get to the batteries.

Thank goodness for our emergency road service.  They are on their way to jump start the batteries, however, DH got a call they were almost here, but DPS (Department of Public Safety) called them to tow a car asap.  So we'll get it done sometime today.  Tomorrow morning, DH will drive the motorhome to the local gas station to get the new batteries installed and the motorhome inspected.  I hope this is the last time the vehicle gremlins visit us.  🤞

Good morning, all! Well, yesterday on our walk DH found a wallet on the sidewalk. We looked up the name on the ID and phoned and drove out to the man’s house to return it. He was an elderly gentleman who was quite frantic about loosing the wallet and VERY relieved to have it returned. Two young women were parked in front of his house doing nothing, and drove off when we got in our car and left. I think a niece or granddaughter or someone was just unobtrusively making sure that whoever showed up was legit and not up to any funny business. I think that’s sweet. It’s nice when someone frail has somebody looking out for them. So we didn’t give a dollar, but we returned quite a few of them.

We also got our new COVID and flu shots. The nurse was very good, and I could hardly feel it at all. The arm’s a bit sore now, but that’s all.

I made chicken tacquitas in the new air fryer last night, using rice paper instead of tortillas. They were amazing. I guess DH picked the right appliance after all!

Happy Friday, everyone, and cheers to our favorite BHBs, wherever they may be! (And many thanks to Rich for keeping track of that for us!)

How nice of your DH to return the billfold, and I'm glad the gentleman had some one watching to make sure he was all right.  Glad you got the Covid and flu shots.

Good morning Dailyites

Slept like a log last night and feeling great this 45 degree morning.

We had girls game night and the food is getting over the top. We had fresh boiled shrimp, creamy sliced vegan potatoes, food truck chicken tacos, 2 margarita pizzas and 3 desserts. And Cosmo's. And wine.

Since we will be leaving on Thanksgiving day til Jan 14th, our friends thought we should have Thanksgiving and Christmas before we go. So next Tuesday is Thanksgiving here and Christmas is at our friends in Pflugerville on 11-21.

Everyone loves to cook and the menu's are oh my goodness.. These next few weeks are busy. Eye check ups, dental cleaning, packing for luggage pick up, urologist, and our parties. We also have our little neighbor dog this week while our friends cruise out of Galveston.

Vanessa thank you for the Care, Prayer, and Celebration lists. It's so much appreciated. Prayers and blessings to all of our friends here.

Have a great weekend! Know you are loved! Give a dollar!

@seagarsmoker Cool to be visiting Dominica on their independence day! Thanks for the photos.

@Heartgrove I hope you got your phones straightened out today.

@StLouisCruisers Great photos from Liverpool.

@grapau27 Thanks for the photos, and history of stout beer.

@superoma I'm glad the surgery went well.

@kazu Enjoy being at home; I await that this weekend.

@aliaschief It sounds like you've had a lovely time on this cruise. Very nice sail away photos.

@kochleffel I admire you trying to continue your course work while cruising. Nice photos. Sorry to hear of the missing ports.

@dfish Early Happy Birthday to River!

@ottahand7 Ouch! I hope you can get the tooth situation taken care of quickly.

@Quartzsite Cruiser Lovely photos of Liverpool.

@Cruising-along Thanks for sharing your photos.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for those Celebrating.

Vanessa, I wish there was more any of us could to to ease your pain.  I hope the pain meds and the extra gabapentin help ease the pain.  The gabapentin and muscle relaxer should help you sleep a little better, too.  I hope the x-ray and MRI show clearly what the problem is and that it can be fixed.  I also hope you're on the cancellation list to see the neurosurgeon sooner than mid-December.

Joy, it's been a while since I've cooked greens.  My mother made the combination of the greens, but over the years DH and I have found we like the mustard greens best.  The seem to be the ones that are hard to find.  I often make them with chicken and dumplings.  The southerners in your group should really like the dinner.

Terri, I'm very glad the dermatologist back you and all of us on Jim going to UC.  It was good she recommended the ortho UC, too.  I'm glad there was no serious damage, and hope the swelling goes down quickly.  The steroids and antibiotics should help too. I hope they don't have to drain the knee next week, but that should help relieve the pressure and pain if needed.

A quick update on the batteries.  The guy came with the car DPS wanted towed on his big wrecker.  He  was able to reach the coach batteries and get the jumper cables on them.  DH got the motorhome backed up enough to get the compartment door open.  While this was going on, I went to the corner station to get the new batteries since the guy agreed to take the old ones out and install the new ones.  Of course, there was a hitch.  The new batteries weren't the correct ones.  The old batteries are in the back of my car, and it will either be W-M or Sam's for new batteries.  I'm sure one of our neighbors will help get the batteries installed.

I think I'm about ready for a few dull, uneventful days.

No worries. They had many other specialty drinks they were offering and they will fix you anything from the complimentary offerings. Every night when you attend the show they have a specialty drink of the night like Brandy Alexander’s or you order your preferred libation. I have not been told since we embarked.

Want a special meal just ask and if possible you’ll have next night. One night I had a craving for spaghetti with a Marinara. Moment later chef can do. Spaghetti Bolognese OK? Some of the best Bolognese ever.

Enjoy.

It turns out, one of our several neighbors who are part of our volunteer fire department was working the wreck where the tow truck was called to get the car.  When our neighbor got home, he saw the tow truck with the car.  Shortly afterwards I got a text from his wife asking if we were all right and if that was our car.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid the car was totaled, more because of it's age.  The repairs would be expensive since the left rear quarter panel and back door were damaged.  The axle was obviously bent or broken since the tire was at a strange angle.  I don't know the year of the car which looked well cared for, but I know they have not made Saturns in many years.  I don't know if the driver was hurt or not.  DH said the car was beinf taken to an impound lot.

Good evening.

Thank you all for your concern and prayers. It means more than you know. After taking the muscle relaxant, and eating a bite, I managed to find a tolerable position in the recliner and napped on and off for about 3 hours. I sure needed that! The working diagnosis is a bulging disc plus nerve impingement from arthritis in the "facet", both seen on a 2021 MRI. So I have to have the MRI and some x-rays repeated, to see if it's worse. That's not until the beginning of December and I see the Neurosurgeon December 19. I suspect surgery will be the recommendation.

@Seasick Sailor Your Christmas gifts sounds delicious. My DM was from GA and made something similar, mainly with collards and mustard greens.

@Heartgrove I'm glad the phones are getting straightened out. I back up my phone to my PC, using iTunes rather than the cloud. I can just transfer all the info to a new phone. Although these days you can just put the phones next to each other and they do their magic and transfer stuff.

@StLouisCruisers I'm glad you asked about the Kong, as I had no clue either.

@Cruzin Terri I'm glad DH got looked at by Orthopedics UC and that there was no fracture. Also that they are treating him and will see him back to follow-up. Sounds like a good place you went to.

@Vict0riann I'm sorry to hear about so many changes to your cruise itinerary.

@cruising sister It's important DB's doctors identify the organism, so they can get him on the right IV antibiotics. Such good news about Murphy! She's been through so much; I hope she continues to progress.

@dfish I don't have pain pills per se, just the muscle relaxant and the Gabapentin which may help nerve pain in the long run. I had tried a higher dose years ago, and had trouble with staggering. But I'd rather do that, if I can decrease the pain.

@Quartzsite Cruiser I hope you get the motorhome's new batteries in without too much trouble.

Time for dinner!

Vanessa @JazzyV I'm so glad you were able to get a little sleep this afternoon!  Those muscle relaxants usually do help with that.  I hope things continue to get better for you.  Also hope you can get in sooner for those appointments.

We had some not so good news today -- our older grandson who is 10 fell off his bike and has a broken wrist.  And it's his left arm, he's left-handed like me.  I know how this will be for him, as I had a full cast on my left arm too -- very difficult.  Anyway, we're feeling sad for him (he is too!) This is his second broken bone in a couple years.

Our weather is giving us an unsettled day.  Sunshine this morning when I set out for my walk, halfway, black clouds appeared  while returning was crossing the second last street when rain began, by the time I was indoors, heavy rain then hail.  It's cleared now, just cloudy,

Noordam is due to visit Norfolk Island tomorrow, hope the weather behaves so that passengers can easily tender ashore.   Sea was too rough the day we were there on the Maasdam, cancelled our HAL excursion.

@Cruzin Terri  pleased that your DH has no fracture of his leg, hope the swelling goes down quite quickly.

@JazzyV  thank you for keeping the Care and Celebration lists when you are suffering such pain.   Good that you have had some sleep this afternoon.   Hope you are able to obtain earlier appointments than the dates you mentioned.

@kazu  thank you for the information about the Kong..

Many years ago when we were living in the UK, we were invited to the wedding of friends who were married in the Liverpool Cathedral.

Now lightening and thunder rolling around very close to us.   Very heavy rain. Will go and find the cat.

Thank you, Jacqui!   I was looking in the right part of San Diego on the map, but just couldn't come up with the name.  I remember thinking it was very nice when you reported on it.  I'll check it out and see if we can do that.

I will anxiously await your report.   Super excited about this!

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.  By the way - to the left, down the street is a supposedly high rated fish place.  Marcia and i went there on turnaround day.  It was good but I didn’t think it was as great as some of the reviews i read.  I’m probably overly fussy 😉

We like fish places.  Good is ok.

That is a long time to go when you are in the kind of pain you are having.  Any way to get the MRI and x-rays sooner?

@dfish I don't have pain pills per se, just the muscle relaxant and the Gabapentin which may help nerve pain in the long run. I had tried a higher dose years ago, and had trouble with staggering. But I'd rather do that, if I can decrease the pain.

I had Gabapentin for my stenosis problems but I don't think it did much of anything for me.  When I weaned off it, there was no increase in pain.  And I don't remember any decrease in pain when I started taking it.  Ibuprofen seemed to work the best for me, even when I had the herniated disc.

Oh, no!  A broken wrist is almost worse than a broken arm.  The wrist is a complicated joint.  I hope he's comfortable.  I know he can find consolation with his Grandma.

Good evening.  After the drama of getting the motorhome batteries jump started, trying to find new batteries for the engine, not to mention house batteries, which are totally different, has DH  rethinking keeping the almost 25 year old motorhome with all the other systems that can fail due to age.  We are beginning to weigh the pros and cons of old v new.  It's not an easy decision, especially since the diesel engine is really  just getting broken in.  Stay tuned.  😁

Lorraine, I thought I had your post set to quote, but it disappeared.  I am extemely happy Murphy is doimg so well in her new room.  I know her mom holdimg her and Murphy being held is a big plus.  The fact her strength impressed the PT tells me what a fighter Murphy is.  Sending very positive thoughts that her recovery continues without any more set backs.

I'm glad your DB is doing better.  I hope they identify the bacteria soon and can then get the right antibiotic to knock it out.

Vanessa, I'm glad you were abpe to sleep some in your recliner. The Gabapentin and muscle relaxers help DH sleep, and I hope they help you too.

Carolyn, I'm sorry your DGS broke his wrist.  The young ones heal faster than we do, and I hope he heals quickly.

Enjoy.

Too late. But I have not been told no since we embarked.
