Royal Caribbean Cruisers -- How Are Things Where You Are? (was "Routine" 😁 day in lockdown... how was yours?)

Elmer is diabetic.  He has been on insulin now for 3 years.  It took a few months to get the right dosage.  He gets 6 units twice a day.  He would not eat the special food so he eats the regular cat food.  The vet is happy with his weight (he lost a lot of weight before he was diagnosed) and his spot glucose readings.  He doesn't mind the shots.  I give them between his shoulder blades.  I use 0.5ml, 8mm syringes and he doesn't seem to notice.  Always make sure it is given on a full stomach.

I have also had a dog with diabetes who lived a long time.

So is your cat prescribed U-100 insulin?

I had a heck of a time finding U-40 syringes, back when I had a diabetic dog who was prescribed U-40 insulin (Vetsulin brand).

I called one pharmacy in town and when I asked if they carried U-40 syringes, the tech I was talking to thought I meant a syringe for 40 units of insulin... she didn't even realize that there are different concentrations of insulin, which is pretty scary if she gives U-100 syringes to a patient with U-500 insulin!

I had big hopes of setting a good example of food choices today, for my grandson.

Then lunch happened with this.

Hey @Ocean Boy, I have friends who have had great luck with Cat-in-the-Bag carriers for their two cats.

I don't see some cats as this being that easy, once you put the bag over the cats head, just what do you think the legs are doing? They aren't staying that still so you can put the legs in. Their legs would be flapping a 100 miles an hour trying to get away.

I call that bag BS. 🤣

The cats really don't seem to mind it at all... I know several other people that got the bag after my first friend talked about how much easier it was, and they all had good results, too.  It's like being wrapped in a blanket.  Their face is out, so they don't feel constricted, I guess.

Sounds to me like the real you is coming out here, you just need drinking buddies to confirm.🤣

I definitely can drink, but drinking makes me hungry and that’s the last thing I need, hence not drinking much at home. I was thinking about your comment about drinking buddies. My next 2 cruises we will have @seatoshiningseaand Marty. The cruise after that no buddies unless we meet some people, but that won’t stop us. The cruise after that in December we will have lots of buddies, on the Icon @Ourusualbeach and @Ozark_Kid will be there. The following cruise we will have @Ocean Boy
Wow, I do sound like a lush! 😳

You had better believe I will. If all goes well, we have 4 cruises booked on Adventure starting Oct 7. Shooting for all treatments to be completed and no after effects to change plans.  Should be a group of CCers' on the third cruise.

Are you on Dec 22nd or are they b4b? We are as are some others on here.

Feel safe posting this here with others who love their pets, Shared with me elsewhere (not on CC)

May be an image of slow loris and text that says 'May life treat you the way you treat animals. Soulology'

Our adoptee Alfie continues to thrive and seems so happy but continues to limp occasionally.  Final vet report to us:

"1.  Left intermittent patella luxation

 2. Suspect previous pubic/acetabular trauma with resulting severe secondary exofemoral osteoarthritis."

Here she rests tonight in my (now departed) mother's favorite rocking chair purchased in the late '60s from a furniture store that actually built the furniture they sold.

Glad you have each other. Allie looks very content.

@Sunshine3601 Sorry to hear about your friend. Hope she gets better.

One of our cats was diagnosed with diabetes a good few years ago.  We kept him under control with ear pricks and insulin injections.  It was not particularly difficult but a chore we had to do.  Then after a few years, I cannot recall how long, he stopped being diabetic.  Vet said that this can happen in cats.  We eventually lost him to stomach cancer, but we have memories of a lovely pet.

We’re busing getting ready for a big family trip to Disney coming up, preceded by a short cruise out of Port Canaveral.  This is pretty involved so I’ll try to keep it to the Cliff notes version.
Andy and I are taking our two oldest grandsons (12 & 10) on a 3 night cruise on Independence of the Seas.  He and I fly to Orlando next Wednesday evening (was supposed to be Thursday morning but JetBlue stopped the early morning flights out of PVD and moved us to Weds).  Meeting up with our daughter & the boys Thursday morning at the airport.  We head to PC, staying at the Hampton Inn and board the ship Friday (she and the youngest are staying in Orlando visiting friends).  After disembarking Monday, we head to WDW where Andy & I have three quiet nights at the Polynesian while the boys are back with their Mom.  By Thursday, the rest of the family will have arrived and the 12 of us check into the Old Key West villa for a week.
The boys are very excited for their first cruise and we’re excited to experience it with them.

Sounds like a wonderful trip

October is B4B , 4th week our free PIN cruise. Then next up  B2B  on Grandeur in Late Jan. We do have to wonder down to Mia occasionally,  I am glad we use a car service to deal with the traffic.

I saw chewy.com sells them for $40.  I'm tempted to buy one to see if I can get Sparky and Petey in it so I can trim their nails.   And Petey is due for his 1st annual vet visit since we rescued him this past winter.   He's a kicker and screamer for the carrier too

For some reason I feel  better knowing others deal with these issues with their cats too. My past two cats let me do whatever I wanted to with them including trimming their claws. Prior to them it was always dogs. This behavior is so new to me.  I keep trying to figure out what I did wrong with this one. You would think that after putting up with weeks of her,  as a kitten, living in my grand piano she would be a little more appreciative.😏

Aside from that, how do they like it so far?

Thanks, Deb, for the housing wishes.

They just landed there yesterday afternoon... They like the weather, cloudy, no rain. After the oppressive heat and high humidity here, that's the best change, so far....

The first pic they've sent, in front of the apartment complex where their sub-let is --
