I miss Jacobson’s. They always called when they got something new in. Wonderful store!

I think Dress Barn is one of the names the online company bought besides Stein Mart. There’s a third, but don’t remember the name.
Stein Mart had an upscale feel to it. The layout, the merchandise displays, and at least for the first few years, Junior Leaguers were the sales ladies.

Pic of my cheeseboard from earlier today when we had an old work friend over.   I can’t explain how great it felt to actually “entertain” someone outside the family for a change!  Now I’m all .. “who can we invite next????”

I’d gladly come over. We can sit by your pool and kick back.

As for the the dried apricots and possible raisins in the trail mix, I will leave for you.

Not sure of mentioned here, but our building is currently in the middle of concrete restoration to fix spalling caused by rusting steel rebar

Ours was done in the last 20 years or so. All balconies were redone and more work like you described. I would not want to be part of a HOA executive at any point in time, but especially now.

We are on at least the second restoration and might actually be the third

Something is always going on at our place. Since I am never there I don’t really keep up on it. Maintenance though is always important.

I felt really uncomfortable watching all the inquiry about JL being the father. It's really none of our business. Excited for BD Med 6. I'll record and then watch on my Friday night cruisin' with cocktails.

Deadliest catch was pretty emotional with the death of a crew member. Still amazed how they work on those boats with all the high seas.

Yes you are right.  It is none of our business who the fathers baby is.

I recorded deadliest catch, that's horrible to hear they had a death of a crew member.

I, too, am excited for the new season of BD Med.  Hopefully will be closer to normal and get to see all the beautiful sights of the med.

They're painting our building now, so no balcony for a while. Bella is bummed.

At least the drilling and jackhammer is over for us.

A&S was my all time favorite dept. store in downtown Brooklyn, a very short subway ride from where I grew up in lower Manhattan.  This was in the 60s.

I've gotten great buys at Steinmart here in TX.

I loved shopping at A&S in Woodbridge, NJ when my daughters were little.   I got such beautiful clothes for them there...as well as for myself😉 I'd drive over the Outerbridge  Crossing and get gas cheaper in Jersey, as well as no sales tax on clothing, which was a big draw for those of us in NY.

I loved Steinmart in Naples, was disappointed when it closed.

Ahh, if only.  Perhaps on the Bella cruise?!  Guilty as charged on the dried apricots but I promise no raisins in the trail mix - just a medley of mixed nuts.

We lived in Rockland County bordering Bergen County in NJ.  We shopped there often to take advantage of no sales tax.  I think you couldn't pump your own gas in NJ? When I visit my daughter in NJ a gas attendant always pumps gas. Not sure why?

I had a Steinmart 10 mins from my house in Texas.  All the good stores are gone,  Shopping online just doesn't do it for me.  The thrill of the hunt and find just isn't there.😒

I used to like to shop at Steinmart in Vero Beach. We haven’t been to Florida since January,2020. Disappointed to hear that Steinmart is out of business.

Thinking of department stores that are no more, does anyone recall Gertz?

The main store was on Jamaica Ave in Jamaica,NY. It was a lovely store not only in the merchandise they sold, but the complete layout of the store.

I recall that the elevators were run by women wearing uniforms and white gloves. They would announce what was sold on each floor. You could purchase make-up to living room furniture from Gertz.

They had a very nice restaurant called the Long Island Room. Occasionally, my mother would treat me to lunch there. I felt very grown up,sitting at a table with linen tablecloths and shiny silverware.

Yes, I did inherit the S (shopping) gene from my Mom!

I'm back, and moving day is now behind us.  Crazy, very tiring last few days.  I think I previously mentioned that we moved DD26's stuff into a storage unit since she is moving into a new apartment on July 1.  They were able to get into her new apartment on the 23rd, so we moved her stuff from the storage unit into her new apartment the day before the movers came to our house.  To recap, that was 3 different U-Haul truck rentals on June 10th, 12th, 23rd moving hide-a-bed couches, headboards, armoires, and other heavy stuff.  I'm to old for this...

The last couple of days of packing our house were a mad scramble.  We thought we had plenty of time but kept finding more stuff hidden in various nooks and crannies in our house.  We saved our kitchen for last, packing it the morning of the 24th...the same day that the movers came.  We figured that we had already made their job easier but putting the rest of the house in boxes so with their help, we should be able to pack the kitchen quickly.  They said that packing was a separate service and they were only supposed to move things from the house to the truck.  While they started moving boxes, I made a quick trip to Lowes for more boxes and bubble wrap.  Got the whole kitchen packed in a couple of hours but have no idea what went into which box.  We had a Junk King truck show up after the movers left to take away anything that was still in the house (and wasn't being left there on purpose for the buyers).  It's a little bit expensive but highly recommended if you have things in your house that you just want to disappear with no effort on your part.

We cleaned most of the house after the Junk King truck left but ran out of energy and crashed at a nearby hotel.  Up early the next day (closing day) to finish the cleaning.  We closed at noon on Saturday and then drove to Clinton, SC for another night in a hotel.  Drove the rest of the way to Florida yesterday in some of the worst traffic I've seen in a while.  Everyone in the US must have been driving south yesterday.  Have I mentioned how much I hate the 2 lane highways in SC?  They just can't handle high volumes of cars.  Lots of literal stop and go on I-26 and I-95.  I was so happy to see the "Welcome to Georgia" sign and 3 lanes on I-95.  Traffic headed northbound on I-26 from Georgia into SC was backed up for miles. I felt for them.

When we finally made it to our (now only) house in Florida, we went for fresh seafood pizza and fish tacos, a local IPA and a Sauvignon Blanc, with a view of the ocean.  We then slept for 10 hours!

I'm exhausted after reading this and the only work I did today was make the bed!

I sure am glad I didn't watch that at my parent's house or with kids.

Between all the sex and the smoking, not very good role models. I will be interested in seeing how Captain Sandy is in this new season. A lot of people hate her because of the debacle in last season and she was roasted in social media. It will be interesting to see if she tones down her micro managing style. I'm also sure the new chief stew will get lots of scrutiny as Hannah was very popular as well as Kate. Looking forward to seeing the beautiful locations in the med as well as this new yacht which is the longest yacht to date in the series.

That is concerning. I had no idea on the effect on sea salt in the air on concrete and rebar.

interested to see how you like it! we have the hero 6 and Im tempted to upgrade. Crazy to think how quickly they update these things…

Yes Crystal it's kind of frustrating that the technology changes so fast. I have a Hero 3 Black that is basically useless. I'm trying to decide to bring it also on the cruise as a backup. I did some test runs with the 9. The hyper smooth is really nice. No need for a gimbal which makes it really nice.

I was in that same mess on our way back from Florida in January.  They do need a third lane in that stretch.

And speaking of pictures or video from the car, I came across this video today, of a drive through Vegas in 1963.  I would take any of those vehicles in the video.

It is video of Los Angeles. Not Las Vegas. Sunset strip is in LA. :classic_tongue:

BonTexasNY..  gas attendants still pump gas here in NJ😉

I miss that   There is not one gas station left in our town where you can have someone pump your gas.  Good thing I still have Dan😇

We were back in Jersey at my brother’s a couple of weeks ago.  It was hard to sit in the car and wait for the Attendant, when I could have jumped out and pumped the tank full in a few minutes.

Google “Versailles Condo Melbourne Beach condemned”.  Following Hurricane Irma in 2017, the 4 story condo built in 1981 was condemned by Brevard County.   Engineers discovered steel support beams were corroded.  Renovation is still ongoing and owners have faced huge assessments.  There was a lawsuit with the insurance company but I don’t know what the outcome was.  Ugh!
