@Seasick Sailor as I don't want to misunderstand your post quoted above, for clarity, I need to ask:

Does your post mean that it is your preference that the contents of The Daily return to being the domain of a small group of people -- specifically, the people you enumerated above?

I mean no offense by my question. I am much, much later to the party than those that were here at the beginning and I need to understand if the feeling is that late-comers like me have crashed The Daily party.

All of a sudden i am feeling less comfortable here.

I thought we got past this yesterday.

@Sharon in AZBon Voyage to you - we'll (fingers crossed) be in Barcelona for another trans-Atlantic on the Oosterdam in November, so leave both the city and ship in good condition for us!

@AncientWandereryay that DH has tested negative - perfect timing so you can take care of that little one while Mom and Dad prepare for the newcomer!

@HAL Sailerplease don't feel you're not welcome here - we were all newcomers at one time.  There's always room at the table for you!

Good Afternoon, Dailyites,

I haven’t posted for several weeks but have been reading every day.

My last post involved the Flea Market that my Retirement Community holds periodically.

The last one had been held in February 2020 right before the first cases of COVID were

identified in the State of MD.  We had the Flea Market and it was a success.  We had some

rough moments because of quite a few personnel changes, but we worked our way

through them.  The Community has decided to do another sale in July.

I’ve cancelled two cruises.  Both were supposed to take place in October of this year.

I just don’t feel comfortable traveling right now.  Several friends have come down

with COVID over the past month.  In speaking with them, they cannot figure out

where they contracted the disease.  I don’t want to risk catching COVID while

on a cruise ship and/or on a pre or post-cruise extension.

I am so jealous of everyone’s beautiful gardens!  I’ve managed to get some tomato

plants in the ground, but they are looking rather pitiful.

Thank you, Rich and Roy, for your Outstanding Work in keeping the Daily running smoothly.

Thank you, too, everyone for your many posts.  The Daily is the Bright Spot in my day!!

Stay Safe!

Amen to that.  I think ger_77 reflects the opinion of a vast majority of the dailyites.

Good afternoon.  It's still windy, but the wind is not enough to make it comfortable to sit on the patio in the 94F heat, especially since our humidity is up.

I did get some outside time this morning.  DH and I changed the spark plugs in one of the cars.  That has always been one of his jobs, but in the last two years, he has been teaching me to do some of the things he does.  He helped me take the cover off the valves and spark plugs because it is a tight fit under a large hose.  He also had to help loosen some of the spark plugs so I could take them out.  In an abundance of caution, once they were out, he started screwing the spark plugs back in since I have been known to cross thread a few things.  🤣  Then, I finished getting them in place and the covers back on the spark plugs.  It also took both of us to get the cover back in place.  Since it had been 8 years when the spark plugs were last changed, and the car is 27 years old, we probably won't have to change them again.  And I didn't have to get under the car. 👍

Evidently, things were done correctly, because we took the car into town to run a few errands.  Naturally, we had to go to three stores to get everything we needed.

@Overhead Fred  Fred, I'm very thankful you made it back to shore and the cabin before the storm hit, and that you didn't have any damage. I'm sorry about all the damage in the surrounding area.

@St Pete Cruiser  Thank you for your wonderful pictures of Barcelona.

@Live4cruises  I'm glad you are enjoying your retirement and are traveling.  Welcome home and back to the Daily for a little while.

@AncientWanderer  So happy your DH has tested negative today.

@bennybear  Thank you for your pictures of Kanasawa.  It looks lovely.

@HAL4NOW  What a lovely story and I liked the way the husband handled the chiding.

@dfish  I'm going to save the recipe (once I decided on which one, and try it in the air fryer.  I have learned to do chicken fried steak and chicken parmesan in the air fryer.  I have not been as successful with fried chicken.  It tasted all right, but was not as crispy as I wanted it.  I'm glad the Doesn't smell Like Walter cream worked.  Poor Walter, no one wants to be around him anymore.  🤣  We're giving the missing packages a few more days; then, we'll call Amazon again and UPs.

@Copper10-8  Thank you for the hamburger memes today.  Glad to see you on the Daily again.

@cruzn single  I understand what you were going through with the banking h**l.  Our bank was bought out last year.  The new bank sent us an 18 page 😱 instruction manual about the change over, and how and when to notify those who were auto-depositing and auto-debiting our accounts.  Fortunately, they had notified the correct government alphabet agency, and all the involved parties made the switch for us.  But it was a very stressful time, until two phone calls to our local branch reassured me it would work out.  Why couldn't they have said that in the first place.  The time before when I bank was bought out, we didn't even know anything until it was all over.  All the new owners were because one of the vice-presidents embezzled millions of dollars over several years to fund her gambling habit in Las Vegas. She is now a "guest" of the Federal government.   BTW, enjoy your new volunteer position.

@HAL Sailer  As @ger_77 Gerry said, most of us were new here at one time.  We have all been made to feel welcome, and you are part of the Daily family.

@Cruzin Terri  Terri, I wouldn't worry.  I think we are past yesterday.

@lcand1923  I'm sorry you felt you needed to cancel two cruises, but I also totally understand.  We had talked about a couple of cruises this summer,  but don't feel comfortable flying or being so far from home.  The advantage of our cruises this winter was we drove to San Diego, and could drive home if we were unlucky enough to get Covid..

Good afternoon,

I don't post often but read several times a day. You all are my port in a storm especially when DH has been in hospital, fighting MRSA, etc. This is such a welcoming and caring group of people.

Jazz Day - we enjoy Manhattan Transfer and one of the singers is a local girl.

National Hamburger Day - in this house Saturday is hamburgers. It goes back at least 50 years when I was growing up in the lower mainland of BC, Canada. Saturday night was... Hockey Night. We had a black and white tv on a swivel (and rabbit ears but later an antenna on the roof) so we could sit at the kitchen table to watch the hockey game and eat dinner. Mom made all her own bread, including her hamburger buns, and they were delicious. I can make them but don't any more since there are just 2 of us. Anyway, I've carried on the Saturday night hamburger tradition but no hockey watching at the moment. If your birthday was on a Saturday then you waited for intermission to have your cake and you hamburgers for dinner! Memories.....

Terri, I wouldn't worry about it too much.  I've been around here a long time and it's always been a friendly, open thread -- not a clique.  Reality is there are a number here who had the pleasure of sailing together in the past -- a lot on the Prinsendam -- and they enjoy that shared experience, but mostly the thread has just grown organically over time.  Just a kind space.

The above statement sums up the way that I feel about the Daily Thread.  The kindness shown is what has been needed and continues to be needed by all of us.

Ages ago, I sailed on another line and used to regularly follow their board and would sometimes post on it.  A particular member did not like anyone posting an opinion that did not agree with theirs.  The board became quite uncomfortable for me.  I’ve recently booked a cruise on this particular line and started looking at the boards.  This member is still there.  I’ve changed my cruise critic name, but will not post because I do not want to incite this particular member.

Another thought: The Ignore List is a good thing.

For me, it currently includes only 1 active and consistently rude poster, but it’s made many threads on CC a happier place, and I’ve missed some drama.

Thought I would throw in something different.  We had our first and last covid tests in Cambodia in early 2020.  They were given by the Pasteur Institute of Phnom Penh and were somewhat painful as they shoved the Q-tip far into your nose.  Of course, we and the rest of the Westerdam passengers all tested negative.  We now have a collection of free government issued covid tests and I noticed that they all expire in July and August this year.  So I decided it might make sense for Sara and I to test ourselves just to make sure we have avoided Covid over the past two years.  So I took out the earliest expiring test box (with two tests), read the instructions and did the test; first on me and then Sara did it.

Really quite simple and easy to see that they both were negative.  We have been more careful than most in wearing a mask and not getting close to strangers and are double  boosted, but it is gratifying to see that those precautions probably helped.  So today was a good day!

I hope we can’t put the contentious topic at rest. I hope that the posters will try to think twice about their words before they write them. And that the ones feeling insulted will cut the posters some slack and understand nothing mean or personal was meant. Please don’t throw out the baby with the bath water.

I would be so so sad to lose the daily and all of you who post here.😢

I am sorry if I took it the wrong way. When I started to post here I was hesitant. I was no longer sailing on HAL but where I felt the most comfortable.  I received a very warm welcome.

However over the time on other HAL threads I have been made to feel that I should not be posting on the HAL board but on my cruise line of choice.

I felt comfortable here.

I guess I was just too sensitive today.

Sorry.

I'd forgotten that you were on the Westerdam!  What you went through!  It seems like a million years ago.  We really have come a long way, haven't we?  The tests are easy now.

Congratulations on the good result!

Terri, the Daily isn't like many of the other threads.  We have Dailyites who cruise other cruise lines, those who cruse HAL exclusively and those like DH and myself cruise HAL and other lines.  All are welcome on the Daily, and all contribute to the thread.

You are definitely part of the Daily family.

My DW and I each test at least once a week; so far, all results have been negative. We also encourage others to test often, and stay home if they are experiencing any symptoms. As some in our little community have tested positive, church attendance has been lower, but our congregation has also avoided spreading any diseases.

Pulling myself away for the night.  Thank you for all that you do, all that you welcome, all that you forgive us for.  You are friends, and family.  Off to watch Better Feed Phil-  (more food porn)

Good morning everyone and Happy Saturday!  I’ve had a busy week getting ready for our trip, lots of last minute things to do with more to do today so we can fly tomorrow to Barcelona. It was so much easier the last time we went on a Med cruise. We are 90% packed but I need to rearrange our carryons. I felt like I was packing for three trips— the Barcelona part, the cruise part, and our 6 days in Venice.

Oosterdam here we come!  Have a great day everyone!

@Sharon in AZ Sending best wishes to you for safe travelling, Bon Voyage!
