We have been to Lima twice.  in 2001, on Ryndam, we took a taxi, along with two tablemates, to see the catacombs under the cathedral.  If you have never been to the catacombs they are interesting, but a little creepy.  I won't say any more about them so I won't ruin the first look for anyone.  Unfortunately, that was the last cruise where I still had a film camera.

In 2015, along with @StLouisCruisers Sandi and Dennis on Ruby Princess, we docked in Callao.  That day due to reports of high crime in Lima, we took the shuttle to Miraflores, a resort and beach area outside of Lima.  These are some of my pictures from our day in Miraflores.

This first group of pictures were taken from the shuttle on the way to Miraflores.

For those of us who wanted to convert US dollars into Peruvian Nuevo Sol, the guide from the shuttle led us down the main street until she found the man she was seeking.  She explained that he was a money changer and would give us a good rate.  From what we knew of the exchange rate, we felt we got a fair deal.  From there, we walked down to the Indian Market to look at the native crafts.  The large market that was in the terminal in 2001 had closed by 2015.   Compared to a huge warehouse full of vendors, the Indian Market was small and a disappointment, but it was still interesting.  I think we bought two t-shirts.

Our drop off point was a hotel across from a large open air mall overlooking the Pacific Ocean.  It was a good place to sit and relax, get ice cream and a cold drink.

Since we didn't spend all our Nuevo Sol, and we knew that by the time returned to Peru, the currency would have changed again, we needed to find a way to spend what we had.  There was a casino next to the hotel pick up point, and we figured we would have some fun while getting rid of the money.  Wouldn't you know it, that was the day the slot machines were hot, and I kept winning.  Finally, we switched machines and made our donation to the slot gods.

Happy Birthday to Graham, one of our many kind and thoughtful posters.  🎂

Last day for my birthday cruise with my sister.  Lots of fun!  This was a “freebie” cruise for her and she invited me along.  DH and I actually have a cruise on Anthem of the Seas on 11/5.  This was booked long before the birthday cruise came about or I wouldn’t have booked so close together.  I will evaluate DH Bill when I get home.  I keep on hearing from home that “all is well” but I will want to see for myself.

Prayers for our country and all individuals/families in need.  Times are tough right now but I know, with God’s help, we will persevere.  Katherine

Good morning,

The weather has turned cold. Unfortunately it will stay this way for Halloween. Molly is not leaving my side sapping warmth from me. I may have to turn on the heat today.

I have been to Lima twice. We visited a Shanty town and brought school supplies. I will pass on the food and drink.  The locals like having their pictures taken when we visited a market. We bought food from the market to share with the residents.

I'm pleased to hear you and your sister enjoyed your cruise together.

I hope your DH Bill is well and you both have an amazing cruise on Anthem of the seas.

Good morning! Let’s start off the day by wishing @grapau27 Graham Happy Birthday!
We moved our clocks forward one hour and it’s still dark out as we start a sea day on our way to Halifax. They had a nice reception last night for all first time cruisers on Seabourn and then we went to dining room where we did enjoy our lobster dinner. Dinner was followed by going to Grand Salon and watching a magician. He did some amazing card tricks but I have to admit I was struggling to stay awake.

So it’s coffee time which means I need to get up and moving. I’m getting low on Me Me’s so will take a break for awhile and enjoy what others will post.

Have a great TGIF and weekend. Thanks for the reports. Bruce

Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Ann, Dixie, and Debbie for the TGIF report.  Happy birthday @grapau27.  My DD DB spent several years in the Navy and I visited his submarine several times.  I'll pass on the beer.  I know we have a lot of cat people on the Fleet Report and Daily and I expect a number of them are black.

Interesting quote by Brenner, and I'll certainly celebrate Pinckney's treaty.  I don't think I've seen Rebel Without a Cause.

I have been to Callao/Lima several times and it's an interesting place.

I'll pass on the meal.  My alternative is Chilled Mango Gazpacho, Chateaubriand, and Carrot Cake as served on MS Amsterdam October 27, 2017.

Good morning friends!  We woke up to a clear morning with a temp of 55.  High will be 78 and nice sunny skies today.  Thank you Rich @richwmn for the Daily and Fleet Report.

First and foremost, a very happy 67th birthday to our friend Graham @grapau27.  We hope you have many more.  How will you be celebrating today?

Nice days to celebrate today.  Black cats get a bad rap being bad luck but I think they are some of the most beautiful cats I've seen.  American beer day is a good one too.  A salute to our Navy on their special day.  The quote is an interesting way of looking at vegetarianism.  The cauliflower parmesan might be acceptable to vegetarians.  I would pass on the mango hurricane and the red wine.  Good days in history. Thank you Debbie @dfish, Dixie @summer slope, and Ann @cat shepard for the great work reporting on food and beverages here.

Prayers for all here on the Daily who are sick or in pain.  Prayers for those at war and the hostages involved, plus those who died and their families in Lewiston, Maine.  Also my DB, Scott and Mark, and friends Bob and Sandy.  Glad to hear Sam is home now Carol @mamaofami.  Cheers to those cruising, preparing to cruise and celebrating happy events.  Thank you Vanessa @JazzyV for your excellent list keeping!  Prayers for you each day!  I enjoyed the photos yesterday of Oban @Mtn2Sea.

DS is traveling to Los Angeles for Parent's weekend at UCLA, as is his DW.  Last weekend it was Columbus, Ohio and the weekend before Frisco, Texas.  Next weekend will be Minnesota for another away soccer game for Ren and teammates.  I told him he must have a lot of American Airlines miles already and he said yes!  He is using some to plan a trip to Spain during Spring break for his DW and himself.  Sounds good to me!  He used to travel exclusively on Delta but Dallas is a hub for American so he switched.  He said the miles go further on AA when using them for special trips like Madrid next year.

The Daily port is Callao, Lima, Peru.  It was our port on Dec. 2, 2022 which happened to be during my Amazon river cruise.  However I've been to the port twice and will have some photos to share with you this time.  Here's the link to that posting.

Oosterdam is in Naples and our friend Annie @marshhawk is there also on Carnival Pride.  I'm sure she and Chuck are having a fantastic cruise.  I hope each and every one of you have a wonderful day!

@HAL Sailer Melissa, praying for you & your DH. Don’t forget you.

Oak Farm Vineyards Tievoli Red Blend 2021

This California red blend sounds lovely. I used the 2021 info, since that should be the easiest to find. Consumers give it a 4 out 5. It might be a bit too bold for me to sip without food, but I would try. 😎 Available from a decent number of distributors with prices starting at $15.95.

Winemaker notes

This Blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Barbera and Sangiovese presents aromas of dark fruits, intertwined with notes of vanilla and black tea. It is rich in flavors with a medium body and a balanced and persistent finish.

This unique blend contains four different grape varietals all grown in Lodi. Zinfandel is the backbone of this blend, followed by Barbera, Petite Sirah and Sangiovese. The Zinfandel comes from two different vineyards, Hohenrieder and Lobaugh Vineyard, both Lodi Rules and Lodi Appellation. These Zinfandels bring the fruitiness to this wine with aromas of blackberry jam and fresh strawberries. The Barbera is from our Estate Property and is on a vertical shoot position trellis system. The Barbera is a key variety to this wine because it adds the acidity backbone. It helps brighten the wine and smooth it out. The Petite Sirah from our Estate property is a great addition to the blend because it strengthens the color and helps with the structure on the back of the palate. Lastly, just a little bit of Sangiovese (from our Estate Property too) that helps the balance of the blend with its acidity, fruitiness and dryness.

All 4 of these Varieties were hand picked and destemmed to tank. They were inoculated separately to ferment. Upon completion of primary and secondary fermentation the varieties were combined and aged in 25% new French and American Oak for approximately 18 months before being bottled.

Happy Friday to All! Thanks for the daily and fleet reports.  Three fantastic days as I love cats, beer and my parents were both in the Navy!!  A chuckle on the quote (it is true!!), I am sure I would like the meal and wine but will pass on the drink.  I will be in Peru next year.  I have seen Rebel Without A Cause and a big thanks to Pinckney!!

It is funny to wake up and it is so dark and cool.  The duvet is now on my bed and the portable fans have been turned off.  Ceiling fans are always on.

Nice day yesterday with students who I have had in other classes greet me with smiles on their faces.  Boy, I have to go back and study my algebra again; I have forgotten how to do it!!  Today it is with middle schoolers for choir and theatre!!  I had a nice pat on the back from a student (said "you need to be our sub always as you help us) and a teacher requested me but unfortunately I wasn't available.  I think my "dance card" is all full for November as I leave Nov 22nd.

Happy Birthday @grapau27 Thoughts for the entire world as it is needed urgently now and for those on the care list.  Cheers to those celebrating.

Good morning to all the Dailyites.

Thank you to Rich for the Fleet Report and Daily.

I love the quote.  It is really funny.

I think I will pass on the meal.

The drink and wine sound fine.

I have been to Callao/Lima.  It was the stepping stone to taking the plane to Cusco and on to Manchu Picchu.

Today we are hoping for a quiet day.

I have not yet wakened DH.  He had a nasty fall last night—and it is all his fault.  He did not turn on lights and then tripped over an area rug.  I just do not understand. I am sure he is going to be sore this morning.  No broken bones but two bruised knees and a bruised ego. Thankfully it is not worse than that.

This morning the phone rang at 8 am.  I am usually awake before then, but not this morning.  It was the eye doctor’s office to tell me that my contact lenses are in and to come pick them up.  Was it necessary to tell me this at 8 am?

Prayers for all on the cares list.

@JazzyV i hope you are feeling bette

@mamaofami I hope Sam continues to improve and there are no more hospital stays;

Prayers always for Baby Murphy and her parents.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  We had two lovely black cats over the years - Princess and Licker (she licked everything).  Sadly, they are on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge, but I'm sure they're happy.  We enjoy American beer when we're there, but rarely purchase it at home.  Great respect for all involved in navies around the world.

It's clear out and only -6(21F), but I can see there's a lot of frost on the car windshield this morning.  We don't have any real plans, so maybe it'll melt off by the time we decide to head out; the temp is supposed to reach a "high" of +1(33F) - not exactly balmy, but we can deal with it.  DH always says at this time of year if only we could have a winter with these consistent temperatures, but I remind him how badly we need the snow to replenish the soil's moisture.  Killjoy, I know.  LOL

@grapau27 wishing you a very Happy Birthday today.

@Norseh2o Bon Voyage; enjoy your cruise!

@kochleffelglad to see you made it to your destination safely.

I just heard on the radio it's also "Cranky Co-Worker Day"; I'm sure each of you has a face suddenly pop into your mind when you read that.  I can think of a couple of folks.

Before we went to Calgary, we hired a fellow to take care of the snow clearing for the winter and when we were away, our security camera caught him using the blower to clean the driveway off.  He wasn't supposed to start until November, but there he was - I hope he's as good throughout the winter!  And the lawn guy came for a final cut and blew out the gutters just the day before it snowed - talk about timing!

Nothing on the agenda - we may go out after lunch, pick up some baked treats and stop in for coffee and a visit with our friends.  We haven't seen them since well before we went to Calgary and it's always nice to just spend a couple of hours in friendly conversation, catching up.

I'd like to try the drink of the day, know I'd like the wine, and would likely make today's menu suggestion as a side dish, although the addition of chicken would certainly turn it into a main.  Of course it's Friday night pizza night here, so on our way back from our friend's house, we'll stop and get some freshly made pizza at a new place that opened just a few weeks ago to enjoy at the kitchen table tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for all who are in need, especially those dealing with loss and grief, war and worry.  Cheers to everyone with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

We visited Callao-Lima, Peru, today’s destination of the day, in 2019 while on the Amsterdam.  We took a panoramic city tour that included one 15-20 minute stop as we were returning to the ship from our overland tour to Machu Picchu.

Happy Birthday @grapau27

What a nice touch, Bruce.  Most cruise lines only do something for repeat cruisers.  Nice to see a reception for first timers 👍

@mamaofami I hope Sam continues to improve and there are no more hospital stays;

Prayers always for Baby Murphy and her parents.

and for all others on the Cares list

Cheers to those celebrating.

@grapau27 a. Very Happy Birthday to you.

I am having a hard time with the blue bubbles so I am going to stop.

Hope everyone has a great day.

God Bless,

Terri

Terri... I am so glad Jim was not hurt by the fall. I have learned (the hard way) that I have to turn lights on if I get up at night. Fortunately I am so groggy I usually go back to sleep as soon as I crawl back in bed. If not, so be it.... if I go down I will have a terrible time getting up again from the floor. It is just part of getting older unfortunately.

Take care.

Good morning all!

It's a foggy morning here and frost on the rooftops.  Only 30 F this morning, but heading to 50.  Hard to believe our warm weather is over!

I love all black cats, prefer Guinness over American beer, and will salute the Navy (DH is retired Supply Corps). Funny quote, will pass on the meal.  We'll be having chicken gyros tonight.  The drink sounds good, I do like rum, but will pass on the red wine.  We've been to Lima -- we sailed out of Lima in 2015 on the Statendam for a South America cruise.  We had a hotel near the Miraflores area, many of the photos posted look so familiar!

DH and I are itching to start packing for the GA, we'll leave for San Diego in 65 days.  But our luggage will be picked up in 49 days and since we have unlimited luggage forwarding, I'm bringing a lot 😉  But the grandsons will be sleeping in the guest room (our packing room) a couple times before then, and HAL hasn't let us know what the theme nights will be, so we have to wait.  I'm not feeling very patient LOL.

Happy Birthday Graham @grapau27!

Bon Voyage @Norseh2o!

@Cruzin Terri I'm so sorry to hear about your DH's fall last night.  Happy there are no broken bones, but he must hurt all over.  I agree about the 8:00 phone call, I wouldn't like that.  Around here companies aren't allowed to call before 9:00.

This is also DS and DDIL's 22nd wedding anniversary.  I know they're both working today, I hope they have something special planned for the weekend.

Some black cats in my life.  All but 1 have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.  All very much loved.

The one black cat we owned ourselves, our sweet Ebony.  Lived to be 17.

My neighbor's cat Jinx, my buddy.  He passed last December.

and Soot, DD's black kitty now.

We went to a fabulous horse show near Lima and drank Pisco 😉

Cauliflower Parmesan sounds like a great meat to me!  Thanks @dfish Debbie.  This is my most request casserole Silver Palate’s Cauliflower Gratinee wonderful for pot lucks and family dinners.  I’ll be making it for Thanksgiving.

For those of you that haven’t seen Rebel Without a Cause, I highly recommend this classic coming of age movie.

I use motion sensor night lights.  It is much easier than turning on the lights in the middle of the night.  I have these which plug into an outlet and go off automatically after 20 seconds but there are many different types.  IMG_8534.thumb.jpeg.b456d1d7619790cb3c56c9a64f1c7adb.jpeg

Positive thoughts to those who need them.  Cheers to those celebrating and cruising.

Good morning Dailyites.

I'm running a bit behind but in a good way.  I delivered gifts cards for kid's at Fort Hood for Christmas (Ft. Cavazos) to our hiking group. Made a pot of soup for a neighbor whose husband passed on Monday. Today was my day. Helped carry trash cans and recycle cans to garage doors for our less than mobile neighbors on my block.

Going to lunch in a bit. My sweet husband decided he didn't want crab salad that I made this morning.  He wants it later for dinner...

I have been praying and thinking of those on our prayer lists today.

Not a beer fan. Allen went from beer to wine in 2000, then to vodka tonic since our cruise in 2021 (Thanks Bobby...)

I lost my Himalayan cat years ago for an hour inside the courtyard at my condo. Some crazy person told me he was a warlock and I was so lucky she wasn't black as she'd have been killed in a coven ritual. I never mentioned this before. My cat was waiting at the door when I got home, thank you Lord!

My husband has life long Navy friends and they still banter back and forth over Army/ Navy games.

Have a great day. Know you are loved and appreciated.

Good morning, Dailyites, and Happy Birthday to Graham.  🎂  I'm sure there will be food porn tomorrow!  I do approve of vegetarianism, but I don't have the will power to stick with it.  DD occasionally makes a meal for us which we enjoy.  DS and his partner are Vegans, though, and that is such a nuisance, they make entertaining very difficult.

I am trying to decide if I should do a Live From on our TA coming up - I'm afraid it will be very boring, but we do plan to have internet.  I haven't been on a Vista ship for a while.

We did a South American cruise on Zaandam some years ago and had an overnight in Callao.  The day before, we had had a boat tripin Pisco  and I had used a new sunscreen on my face, and had a severe reaction to it, My face got more and more swollen the first day in Lima, the second day I stayed on board and had to go to the medical room and had a steroid infusion, while Pat went on a city tour alone.  The first day we had gone to the Pachacamac  ruins, and to the horse show.  Pat made friends with a horse, and as he went to leave the horse whinnied and Pat had to go back for a final nuzzle.  He has a great affinity for horses..
