Happy Saturday and welcome spring.  A cold and windy start to the season.  We are supposed to head to our island tomorrow but it looks like the winds may prevent that.  The ferries won’t run in 30-40 mph winds.

I guess Boots was hungry enough to come inside during the day. A little bit ago he came in while Callie and Leo were inside and ran when I said something, granted it was a bit loud.  Callie and Leo went out and Boots came back in and has been eating. Actually ate quite a bit. He is now exploring.

Spring is continuing the cool, rainy weather of yesterday. 

I decided several moves ago that we had to stop collecting books.  Still an avid user of the library, both hard books and ebooks.

Happiness is a great way to enjoy the day along with caring for the earth.

My task for the day is to install our new wifi router as we have cut the cable cord, so I can send the 'rented' one back and cut another few bucks off my bill.  Not a real techie type but found a couple of tutorials and should be able to make this work.

 

Prayers to all on the care list and those who need them and best wishes to all.  Glad to see lots of jabs occurring and scheduled.

Good morning.  In some ways, Bibliomania Day can describe me, but I've never stolen books like Stephen Bloomberg of Ottumwa. IA.  This past year especially, I have been trying to read some of the books that have been on the shelves for up to 22 years.  Then the other day, I noticed my stock of books was running low, so I went on a buying spree on line.  I also have a lot of books on my Kindle, which I use mainly on cruises, but sometimes on shore.

 

We should always try to be happy, and do our best to respect and take care of the earth. 

 

East Timor is one place we have not visited, so looking forward to reading about it and seeing pictures.

 

We'll pass on the ham as we'll be finishing the corned beef and cabbage from the other day.

Good morning all and Happy First Day of Spring!  

Bibliomania could describe one relative I know (not to go so far as to steal books though) 😉  I do collect books by a few favorite authors, but that's about it.

 

I'm definitely happy today, since today starts my favorite time of year (even if it IS raining -- again --) Maybe between showers today I can get out to the garden to plant.

 

Will pass on the meal, it will be leftover steak from last night.  Never have been to the port of the day.

 

All of WA state will be moving to Phase 3 in a couple days. Our governor has been pretty strict but now our state is doing very well for low Covid numbers and high vaccinations.  One change will be in-person spectators allowed now at sports venues for the first time in a year.   DH has worked for the Mariners part-time for a long time, and will be going back to work for them the first of April.  Up to 9,000 fans can be there. Also restaurants will go from 25% to 50% indoor capacity.  

 

Yesterday I met and chatted with a lady from the Ukraine who moved to our neighborhood a couple years ago.  She lives with her son and his family and does a lot to help watch the grandchildren.  I realized later how much I missed chatting with people all over the world.  By using a translator on her phone plus the assistance of her 8-year-old granddaughter, we managed to carry on a conversation.  I praised her English and told her we had visited her country on a cruise, and of course we talked about grandchildren.

Good morning to  everyone. I  became  a  kindle  reader as  it  is  kind  to  my  arthritic  hands but  DH remains  a  steadfast  book  reader.  We  are  very  fortunate  in  that  our SIL  works  for  a  publisher  and  is  able  to get  us  recent  titles  in  both  forms. I  am  so  grateful  for  books,especially  during  this  last  year.

International  Earth   and  Happiness  days  are  also  quite  lovely. The  neighborhood  is  doing  a  spring  clean  up this  weekend  and  we  hope  most  will  participate. Our  houses  are  very  close  together and  we  seem  to  have  a  lot  of  windy  days....lots  of  "stuff"  flies  around.

I  could  not  find  my  Portofino  pictures. I  will  have  to  be  content  with  remembering. I  look  forward  to  hearing  about  East  Timor.          Terry

Good morning -- it's Saturday, which means I'm back, after a very long and stressful week of work. Guess you could call me a weekend Daily-ite. 

 

I'm happy about Happiness day, Earth day, and I'm definitely a bibliophile. To me a book is a book based on its content, not its format. I would be happy to read my favorite books in whatever format I have. Although I do have to say that recently I re-purchased a large, heavy book that I already own in Kindle format because it is just so much easier to read when I'm in bed prior to going to sleep....

 

DS and I are not huge ham fans but will have some for Easter undoubtedly. Beef Wellington is a different story -- wish I could be on a cruise ship having some for dinner tonight.

 

I always think of Brandy Alexander as such a decadent and adult cocktail. 

 

I have not been to the port of the day and don't know much about it -- not even that it was a cruise port. Seems like I remember East Timor mostly in the news a decade or more ago with a lot of unrest?

For some reason, the printer left out about 30 pages of the index (let's say from M through R) and none of us noticed it when we got the proof pages to approve. We had to go through a lot of contortions to solve that problem, as the books were already printed when the error was discovered. We ended up having to print an insert for each book. That was DEFINITELY a learning experience!

 

@Mary229  What in the world are those fossils??  Very unusual looking, at least to someone who doesn't know a lot about fossils. 🤔

They are Blastoids from the Permian (pre-Dinosaur age).  Actually it is the only sample - fossil, mineral or sample I know of from West Timor.  I found them at a big international mineral fair.  Blastoids are the calyx of a Sea Lily, a bottom dwelling echinoderm.  Echinoderms include starfish, crinoids and sea urchins.

I prefer "real" books but I did buy a Kindle at the start of the pandemic lockdowns. I have been quite happy with it. I often use it in the kitchen to follow recipes that I loaded onto it as PDFs. 

 

So far most of the books I have downloaded have been free public domain works. Right now, I am about halfway through the complete works of F. Scott Fitzgerald. I have also been reading some Sinclair Lewis, P. G. Wodehouse, John Galsworthy, L. Frank Baum, and Thomas Hardy.

Good morning, all - Spring equinox - should we be checking to make sure the sun rising and setting happen at  exactly 12 hours apart?

 

We donated almost all our books when we downsized, and sold multiple bookcases, so now I read mainly on my Kindle.  Actually, I don't read a lot nowadays, but on a cruise it's a favourite activity. 

 

The border will remain closed for another month, announced yesterday.

 

We haven't been to Dili - hope another of the Dailyites has - I bet it is hot!

 

I believe DD is planning taco salad for dinner tonight.   The ham suggestion brings back memories of the lovely honey-baked hams we used to get in Virginia!

I do like reading and yesterday finished a controversial book titled American Dirt. Here we are in 🌴paradise sunning and swimming by a pool and I'm reading about an incredible journey and plight of immigrants and the violence. 😯So very thought provoking.

Good morning, all! Oh my, Rich you really hit it out of the park with the collection of days. Books, happiness, and Earth Day! The only things missing are wine and chocolate, which are sort of implied in the happiness part anyway. Dinner tonight is ham, potatoes and asparagus, so the meal fits, too!

We are back into the eternal rain here. Luckily the apple trees have been cleared and fertilized so the rain can take over now and do some good. The banana plants aren’t showing signs of life, but it’s early yet. I just hope the mid winter cold with no snow cover wasn’t too much for them.

Good morning all. I am so glad spring got here. I just hope Mother Nature knows and the evenings warm to above freezing.    I used to sell books at antique shows and on line. I used to carry an inventory of about 5000 books. Then I thinned it down to just six hundred for myself. And now I probably have that many on my kindle. Love books.

Rich, your Boots looks just like my Lucky down to the 1 white eyebrow. Lucky refused to east with my calico Silky today and I had to take her foodbowl into another room where she did gobble it up.

 

Wonderful collection of days here although I am a bibliophile. I have always preferred paperback books which I donate to local hospitals after I finish them. The only collection of books I have ever kept is the works of Tony Hillerman and now his daughter Anne Hillerman about the southwest especially the Navajo Indian traditions.

       Happy 1st day of Spring. Today would be my parents 78th wedding anniversary. We gave them a surprise party for their 50th anniversary. 
          Having BBQ chicken tonight from another Fire Co fundraiser from Lancaster county. They sold out of soup in 20 minutes
