Good morning to my fellow Dailyites. Thank you Rich for our Daily. Love to my sisters and thanks to all contributors.

Edi I am sorry to hear about your husband.  He was on our prayer list for a long while. I'm happy you see him at the Ocean Bar chatting it up with the Captain.  God bless you as you heal.

Goodness last night was quite the storm. Going out after my coffee and doing clean up.

We were in Southampton in August 2018 on QM2 from NYC. We did not stay any time as our driver picked us up and whisked us away.

Tonight if the weather holds we will be joining friends in Georgetown at the Barking Armadillo and music.

I love lobster!

Cheers and blessings.

I’ve had a busy week.

I finally had breakfast with a long time friend that I haven’t seen since December 2019.  The breakfast lasted close to three hours as we caught up with news.  (We warned our waitress when we sat down that it would be a long breakfast.  I don’t think she quite believed us, but soon learned that what we said was true.  We were generous with our tip.)

The week ended with a small birthday celebration for a new friend.  This meal didn’t last very long since we didn’t have quite as much news to share.

In between, I’ve been scheduling other meals with friends.

Do you get the sense that just about everyone I know has been vaccinated?   AND, I finally have gotten my head around the idea that it is safe to break bread with friends who have been vaccinated.

Prayers for everyone on the Care List.  Cheers for everyone on the Celebration List.

Thank you to all who post on this thread and share their daily activities.

Stay Safe!

A couple of picture of todays port - Southhamptom from August 2017.  The hotel is very popular as it is only a 15 min walk to the cruise terminal.

The last picture was taken from the hotel which gives you an idea of the distance to the cruise terminal.

Feeling the pinch: McLobster pushed out of the market by high prices.

"Unfortunately, we will not be serving McLobster as part of our menu across Atlantic Canada,"

They have been in Atlantic Canada for some years.  Just a short period of time (lobster peak season when it’s cheapest).

I have tried it (hey it’s lobster after all 😉 ).  They are borderline ok only IMO.  One was enough.  I can make a better one at home.

Good morning, thanks for the Daily!  A little late to the show, was trying to call around to find an appointment for a second jab for a friend.   I had no idea who Julia Pierpont was, but bless her for starting what is a wonderful tradition.  Not a jazz fan, but don't deny it from others who do; we compost as much as we can, but our city doesn't do a great job of taking care of it.

I like today's saying, and have always believed you gamble only as much as you can afford to lose.  If you take $20 in and come out with 0, that was the cost of your entertainment; if you come out with more than $20, that's a bonus.  It was interesting reading about the drink of the day that can be made in a single glass to be shared among people . . . likely not the best idea in times like these.

We have had today's wine - a gift from our Argentinian neighbours - and we really enjoyed it; it is definitely one worth buying again.   I love lobster, but have never had a lobster roll - from all accounts, I'm pretty sure it would become a favourite!

@NextOne, I add my sentiments to my fellow Daily-ites in sending you my love and prayers as you deal with the loss of your DH.  His memory will live on through all who knew and loved him.

It's going to be a nice day here on the "frozen tundra", albeit a bit windy - not too windy for DH to barbecue, though.  I'll make up a batch of hamburger patties for him to grill that will feed us today and make enough to freeze for future meals.  Burgers with all the fixings (sauteed onions, ketchup, relish, mustard, pickles and tomatoes) and coleslaw will be what's happening on our table tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don't think they do.  Clinking the glasses together to celebrate all on the happy list.  Be well, stay safe, wash your hands, wear your masks and get your jabs!

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

Good morning and what a morning it is!  After a night of truly awful dreams, I awoke to a room filled with glorious sunshine, with lots of blue sky, a quick peek at the NA in Long Beach, and I see the May Gray is in full swing down there.

Guess what!  I purchased our pre-cruise hotel on HAL's website this morning and lo and behold the transaction went through no problem, I'm always prepared for anything and everything when it comes to HAL's website but I guess the planets were in alignment this morning.

It gets better.  Since I used a credit card I logged on to my bank's website to check something and lo and behold the hold that was sitting on my account was gone, hallelujah!

It doesn't seem right to be having a morning like this!  That's not usually how my mornings go, dare I get in the car and go the grocery store on a busy Saturday morning, it's tempting, but that's a bit much during stroke recovery, I think I will pass on that and visit with my sailing friends instead.

Thanks to Rich and all the listers.  Prayers and thoughts to those that need them.

I like the meal suggestion, we'll take a table for two, 7:30, in Sel de Mer this evening.  Prior to that, we're planning on catching the afternoon concert at Lincoln Center Live, and I think a relaxing trip to the thermal suite is in order after a very long and trying week.

For the rest of the day I have computer work to do this morning, some light housework, and will be taking Dear Dad to church this evening.  Crossing my fingers the pew does not aggravate my back, I keep saying I'm going to by one of those pew cushions.

Have a great day everybody!

👍 Thank you to all who contribute especially to Rich @richwmn, Jacqui @kazu for the Care List and Roy @rafinmd for the Celebration List.😢 Condolences to @NextOne for your loss.

Southampton was an easy port to get to from London by taking the National Express. We stayed at a Doubletree and took in the local sites including Portsmouth (HMS Victory, etc) by train for a fun "day trip" before cruising on Princess.🚢 It was some time ago (2012) when we met Capt. Stubing (actor Gavin MacLeod) on the Grand Princess. 😊Good memories!

I'm reminder of the McLobster in Nova Scotia...love lobster! 🎶Also, Jazz Festival in Montréal years ago...sometimes we just come across events by chance.

🙏Prayers to all in need and Happy Memorial Day Weekend.

Katie

Good morning all!

I love jazz, especially performed live.  I'm a regular composter here, I have 2 large and 1 small compost bins for our small yard.  Thank you Rich for the link about Julia Piermont -- when I googled her name the first thing that came up was about feminist author (!)    Love lobster rolls, and get them anytime we're on a New England cruise 🙂  Have never been to Southhampton, but was in London several days pre-cruise.

Yesterday was a stellar day, it included all my favorite things.  Family, wine and flowers. 🤣  We started the day by joining DD, DSIL and the boys on a seaplane ride over Seattle.  It was to celebrate both boys' birthdays.  I was a little nervous because I'm a nervous flyer under the best of circumstances.  But I was determined not to show any fear, I didn't want to ruin the boys' fun.  But pretending wasn't necessary,  I loved the experience!  Not at all like flying in a jet. Even the weather cooperated.

Afterwards DH and I stopped by Total Wine and restocked, then to my favorite nursery where I picked up some tomato and bell pepper plants.  Good day!

Thanks to all who continue to post and give me my “cruise fix” daily.  Bdrcole - love the pics of Ocean Terminal and WestQuay.  I have docked 11 times in Southampton and most times visited WestQuay.  Brings back a lot of pleasant memories.  Katherine

Hello Again, finished the first round of errands.  We stopped at Target this morning and I saw that the 2.5 oz tube of Colgate was on sale.  Buy three get one free.  These are a perfect size for those of us who need to fly to catch a ship.  Regrettably the sale ends today.

Good morning.  I haven't had time to read all the posts, so I'll post some pictures of London and then go back and read all the posts.

We have been to London three times, twice from Dover on cruises, and once for six days on the way back from Cape Town at the end of a cruise, so I guess that counts too.  We have also been to Southampton at the beginning and end of the world cruise on P&O's Oriana in 2000.  We don't have any pictures of Southampton as we got to the port about 9am after a long overnight flight and had to sit in the waiting room until we were allowed to board about 2 pm.  I've just skimmed through the posts, and I appreciated the pictures of Southampton @bdrcole posted.

Some of the pictures were taken from a tour bus, the Ho-Ho and the top deck of an iconic double decker bus.  I imagine everyone has seen pictures of Big Ben, Westminster and Buckingham Palace, so won't  post pictures of them.  We did watch a session of the House of Commons and toured Westminster Abbey along with Churchill's underground war rooms, but I don't have any pictures of them.

I'll start with an iconic London sight

Good morning/afternoon, Dailyites.

Our schedule is all over the map this Memorial Day weekend because we have two different sets of relatives visiting.  Which is fun, and very busy.  I actually had a grilled peach salad when we went out to dinner on Thursday -- which I then found was our recommended meal for the day. 🍑  So staying the course here.  😊

Memorial Day Weekend is really the beginning of summer, so gentle reminder:  Bring out those white shoes!

And have a lovely weekend as we remember those who have sacrificed to keep our country whole.

Sending best wishes to all, and continued prayers for those who are struggling right now.  Too many of us!

@rafinmd , it's great to hear what a busy schedule you are able to keep.  What a blessing that you have been "fixed up" so successfully.

@Quartzsite Cruiser , your photos of London really pull at the heartstrings.  There was a time when we made sure to visit London at least once every five years.  It's our favorite city.

I'll need to post pretty quickly as I will leave soon to walk in the mall garage as it will likely rain all day.  Then groceries, takeout at Panera, a Men's group meeting with my church, and a TV academic program.  I most likely won't be back until after 10:30.

Roy

You are one busy man for someone who has just been through what you have. Please don’t overdue.

Good morning everyone and Happy Saturday!  Thank you for the Daily Rich and thanks to Jacqui and Roy for your lists.

DH loves jazz and was in the jazz band in college (trumpet and sometimes coronet). I’m not a compost-er but really support those who do. Thank you for the link about Julia Pierpont @richwmn

I have tried to make lobster rolls myself with frozen lobster but they are never as good as those I’ve had in New England or Canada on cruises.

My heart is with @NextOne. I am so sorry for your loss. The next time I’m in the Ocean Bar I’ll order an Espresso Martini and toast your DH.

Have a great day everyone!

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily.

Interesting days. I'm a Jazz fan (but not the far out stuff). I don't compost as I don't have much to put in other than yard waste. I had to look up Julia Pierpont and got the wrong one; thanks for the link Rich.

I agree with the quote, altho I once won a jackpot.

I like the meal and drinks. I've had lobster but never a lobster roll, even though I went to school in Boston. I had the Caipirinha in a local Brazilian steakhouse.

I haven't been to today's port, although I've been to England on land trips several times.

It's chilly here, just in the upper 40's, and grey skies. I'll stay in and do laundry and ebay stuff.

Tomorrow I'll be venturing out for my first trip to a restaurant since March of last year, with my vaccinated BFF. It'll be too cold to be outside. I'm just getting in before all restrictions except the mask mandate are lifted on the 31st. So hopefully the place won't be packed with people and there's distancing of tables.

@NextOne My condolences on the loss of your DH. Praying for comfort for you.

@smitty34877 Continued prayers for Tana and the family.

@rafinmd My, that's a full schedule.

Prayers for the care list and cheers to the celebration list.

Forgot to say that we have flown in and out of London but never toured or cruised there. Somewhere we have pictures taken from the plane of a double decker bus, it was easy to spot even from a distance.

Thanks to those who posted pictures of both Southampton and London.

There were so many pictures of London and Greenwich, I did not dare put them all in one post.  I was lucky CC let me post as many as I did.

If any of you have been watching the Smithsonian Channel's series on the Tower of London, you'll probably recognize most of the pictures.

For those who have not visited the Tower of London, a couple of hints.  Don't wait to buy your ticket at the official ticket window.  Instead, you can get them at various news stands in the area without the line, and maybe a discount, but don't hold me to it.  Also, some of the best fish and chips we've had, we got at a place just outside the gates to the Tower, then sat on a park bench to enjoy them.  Yummy!

Here are a few of the ravens kept at the Tower and in the next picture you can see their cages where the Ravenmaster keeps them at night and feeds them.

Once we left the Tower, we took the Underground to the Docklands area to catch a boat to Greenwich, where we went through the Royal Maritime Museum and the Royal Observatory.  I wish we had time to explore the town a little more.

We were in Southampton pre-cruise for our Rotterdam 2015 Canary. Island sail8ng - here are some pics from Salisbury Cathedral.   We took the train from Southampton to Salisbury and walked to the cathedral and visited some Christmas markets.

The last pic is Salisbury Cathedral’s unusual font.

If there was no other place to get them or I could never get lobster, I wouldn’t refuse them 😉 - It’s just there is a lot better available around here. Even Deluxe French Fries has a better lobster roll IMO and that’s putting a pretty low bar on the comparison scale 😉   But Deluxe’s home cut fries are so good I’ve been known to get a lobster roll platter on occasion 😉

I will never forget our visit to the Tower of London.  We were standing in line to go in the Bloody Tower when out of nowhere a terrific wind, thunder and lightening storm hit.  It sure added atmosphere!!

Here are a couple photos from our trip, I don't think I'm duplicating, I hope.  Yes, I like castles. 🙂
