P&O Standards dropped, probably never again.

Just had a nosey at a Le Manoir menu online - far too many words I don't understand 😂

Le Manior , had one of most disappointing meals I've had, good but for the silly price was expecting to be blown away

Opposite of P&O ,  which out-delivers price. Especially if you pick right ship , and long cruise.

I would like to hope people can 'live and let live' a little more.

Some of your fellow passengers, who might have been described as 'Obese, tattooed, underdressed' or  'low class' may be key workers, who have been keeping the country going through the pandemic.

Surely they deserve to enjoy their holiday, without being judged?

Even if they were not, they still should not be assessed and written about in a forum in that way, but I think you realise that now anyway. Being nasty about others is not a way to show 'class'

From my very long first post which covered quite a few issues, the things that people have latched on to are the words obesity and tattoos.

People are asking me not to judge others and yet are making a judgement on me because of my views. However I think most people are guilty of some form of unconscious bias.

However, absolutely  nowhere did I say that I thought myself better than anyone else, just different. That’s all, different.

In the same way that I wouldn’t visit a rough pub or restaurant at home because I wouldn’t have anything in common with the clientele, well it’s the same on holiday.

We’re not experienced cruisers but I did book a 3 night knowing that it would be a different experience. I hardly paid anything for the cruise so my comments weren’t so much as a complaint but more of an observation.

Perhaps other people who are thinking of booking a staycation can make an informed decision based on the comments.

I do think that standards have dropped, if other people are happy to accept a sub standard service that up to them.

We still had fun but overall it’s not the cruise line for me.

Silverseas anyone?

A minor point, but the line is Silversea.

So for all the nasty remarks that I’ve received because I judged them for not following the dress code and for the way they looked, can you explain to me why you think it acceptable for them to judge us for our appearance?

Could it have been nothing to do with your appearance, but your attitude? I'm genuinely  not meaning to be rude, but sometimes a persons thoughts show on their face. Not everyone has a poker face.

any recommendations for breakfast on Thursday before I board?

Don't forget to leave a little time between eating/drinking and the test. I think an hour,or two is the recommendation.

Correction. 30 minutes.

Sometimes it's best to be dignified and say nothing.  For me, this is one such time.  I'm utterly speechless.

To all my friends on here - I hope you are all well.  I haven't posted much recently as very busy at work making arrangements for the delivery of Covid Phase 3 and the Flu vaccinations.  We are hosting at my own practice from September - no more weekends off until January!

Stay well and stay safe, you lovely people.  Best wishes.  Jane.xxxx

I enjoyed your original post, everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but did you expect to basically call us louts because we are comfortable with the P&O demographic and not expect us to defend ourselves.

You booked a booze cruise, paid peanuts and expected five star service...

P&O has lots of niggles, but still suits many of us for what we pay.

You don't deserve to be insulted or abused, but nor do we...

Rant over, I'm off to Wetherspoons, I think it's curry and a pint for a fiver, anyone coming?

😊

Andy

Sorry to say Andy but you do look like a lager lout with your string vest and track suit bottoms on a typical P&O look

Good to see your post Jane. Make sure you get time off during the week if possible as you need to look after yourself.

Absolutely agree with you that everyone has some sort of unconscious bias. I even teach courses on this very subject to many companies.

However your bias is very much conscious as you've stated class, outfit, appearance and equated them to "lowered standards". This is not a case of judging you, quite the opposite, I do not know you and thus I can not judge you, I'd need to meet you, talk with you, learn about you.

The exact things you have seemingly failed to do with the other guests on board and that is YOUR prerogative.

As I said in my post, I used to be "obese" and have lost 10 Stone over lockdown and I've found that people treat me completely differently. Have I changed as a person? No. I just don't happen to be fat anymore and as such, the assumptions that I am lazy, unmotivated, unhealthy and suchlike are gone and people instead treat me with a newfound respect that I am finding unusual.

You say you wouldn't visit a "rough pub or restaurant" as you wouldn't have anything in common with the clientele. I'm not even going to go into the definition of "a rough pub" but I will ask how you would know that you have nothing in common with a large group of people, just based on what pub they choose to drink at?

I pride myself on being able to talk and get along with anyone. Through my work, I work with everyone from young kids from underprivileged black and ethnic minorities to CEO's of multi billion companies and you know what? I never assume anything about them, because I always see every encounter with someone new as a chance for me to learn something.

Sure, I wouldn't invite certain people I don't get along with to my home for wine and cheese but even those people that rub me up the wrong way have something to teach me, something for me to learn from and experience. One of my favourite parts of cruising is that I get to meet people from all walks of life and admire them. Perhaps you could learn something from others too?

It would be easy for me to be rude or to be dismissive of you but in all honestly, that's just not me and instead I offer you one suggestion. Open your mind and try starting a conversation with someone like me or anyone else, someone who isn't part of your "class" or "usual suspects" - you'll be surprised how fulfilling your life will become.

Congratulations on losing 10 stone in weight.

Thank you for a very interesting read.

Graham.

I loved the silent disco. They did not take up my suggestion of a silent Karaoke though 🤔

I know what you mean, we have Karaoke at our local pub. The DJ didn't like it when I asked if I could "do" "Tubular Bells"

See no, that's where you're wrong.

You are not entitled to choose who you spend time with when you're on a cruise with hundreds or thousands of other people.

You choose to cruise, then you choose to be onboard with everyone else that has paid their fare on the same cruise. You have no control over who they are. If they can buy a ticket, they have the same rights as you.

I am not posh, snobby and certainly wouldn't call myself middle class. I had a single parent childhood on benefits, but I've sailed to platinum status, I've been across the world and I earn a very good living. I could book myself onto Azamara, Oceania, Cunard and come to one of those upmarket cruises and I could wear my jeans and trainers and still cause you concern.

The only way you can ensure you're only around "your people" is by staying at home.

Another great post.

My only thought is to treat everyone the same way I would like them to treat me.

Graham.

This has nothing to do with brand loyalty. I've never sailed with P&O. My first cruise with them is on Thursday!

Hope you have a great time and that the weather is kind to you

The one key difference you seem to be missing is "perception".

You are actively stating your judgement of others for their choices/clothes/bodies but the only evidence of you being judged by them is your own perception of their sneers/looks at you. They haven't come on here to talk down to you or to complain, the only party of the two to be openly stating they judge the other is you.

We've all been there when we're thinking everyone is staring at us, or people are judging us but a lot of it is in our head. I am not saying this did not happen but there is a big difference between perception and outright statements.

But I think I've said enough. I haven't been rude, mean or hurtful in any of my comments and I am not judging anyone either as I was not there and can't confirm what it was like, nor do I know the OP personally so I cannot make judgement.

Let's just get back to cruising and enjoy life and all the people in it and if people wanna laugh at our outfits or what we look like, let them, life is too short to worry about that!

I hope you have a fantastic cruise in 2 days time.

Graham

We have witnessed fighting on Cunard in the past when a cruiser attacked a waiter in the buffet restaurant on the QE2 in the good old days of cruising and security were called and the cruiser was escorted away. Dont know what happened to him whether he was kicked off the ship at the next port or not but it just proves that trouble can appear on any cruise line not just P&O.

Carluchios just inside West Quay shopping centre across the road from the multi storey car park is our breakfast place.

Hopefully it is still open.
