There have been some wonderful weirdos in my life so I will celebrate them today. I don't understand the O'Connor quote. The meal looks so good, will save this recipe for another time. Have not been to Whittier, can't wait for the photo's from those who have. Toasts and prayers for our lists. Stay safe, social distance, and please continue to wear yourl mask. Tommy's Margarita: Ingredients 2 ounces blanco tequila 1 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed 1/2 ounce agave nectar Garnish: salt rim Steps Rim a rocks glass with salt and set it aside. Add the tequila, lime juice and agave nectar to a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled. Strain over fresh ice into the prepared glass. I checked and the population of Whittier is about 205 people (2020). The entire town lives in the high rise building seen in the photos. They have grocery store and other services in the building itself so they don't even need to step outside most of the time. I would assume the majority of the people work at the harbor with ships coming in or boat charters or fishing. This is what the town looks like in May with the snow still on the mountains. Like I said before on the 2010 trip we were heading to the airport so this is about all we saw. I'm not sure what this building is but it looks like it would work great as a restaurant and hotel. I wonder how many people actually come here to spend the night though? This photo was taken Sept. 12, 2009 on our B2B. Notice the lack of snow. The high rise residential building Rainy weather is common here. In this photo you see the road from Anchorage and even buses coming toward the ship with new passengers ready to embark. The mists which are probably common here. A truckful of luggage coming probably from the cruise line hotel in Anchorage. If anyone has actually gotten off the ship and walked around the "town" please enlighten us as to what you have seen. I would love to know, and if I ever get back to Whittier I'll get off the ship even if it is raining. I promise! Interesting photos. Thanks for posting them Graham. 8

Do you still have swelling and/or pain? It is a remarkable recovery! Terry Terry, I am happy with my progress. Just being able to bend the knee enough to ride the stationary bike opened up an entire world of exercise to me. Still swelling, but a smaller area of swelling. I ice after each “session”. Lots of tightness, but only a couple of exercises cause what I would call pain. I am lucky in that I have a high pain tolerance. I am keeping notes of each session, so I can talk to my PT guru.
ger_77 Posted September 9, 2021 #30 Share Posted September 9, 2021 Good morning, thanks for the Daily! There's always been a teddy bear somewhere in our house, I enjoy focusing on Sudoku while flying to a destination where we can board a BHB, and I sometimes think I might be one of the weirdos. LOL A beautiful day here on the "frozen tundra" where we're supposed to get one more blast of summer before the temperatures start going into fall mode. It should hit 29C (85F) this afternoon, so I'll go out early and make sure all the pots are watered. It's strange though, some friends on this board are saying "enough rain already", while we've experienced drought-like conditions most of the spring and summer. If only we could learn to share! @dfishsafe travels to you and your sister; I hope you have an awesome cruise. School has started again and initially masks were optional . . . well that certainly proved to be a mistake. As of yesterday, 33 schools in our city have reported at least 1 positive case of Covid. Apparently there's going to be an announcement today making masks mandatory again in both elementary and high schools . . . duh! DH and I aren't about to give up our masks any time soon. Today's menu suggestion sounds like something we used to toss together in our early years when we were hungry after work, but neither of us really wanted to cook; DH would boil the pasta while I cooked up the ground beef and by the time the table was set, dinner was ready. For us though, because of the hot weather, we'll be tossing some burgers on the barbecue. Along with fresh buns and a side salad, that's what will be on our dinner plates on the deck this evening. And wine. Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don't think they do. Clinking the glasses together to toast all on the happy list. Stay well, wear your masks, wash your hands, be safe, and hydrate! Smooth Sailing! 🙂🙂🙂 Gerry
Cruising-along Posted September 9, 2021 #31 Share Posted September 9, 2021 Good morning all! I love teddy bears, and the grandsons have the teddy bear I had as a child. That teddy bear went with me to the hospital when I had my tonsils removed at 6 (back in the days when the procedure required an over-night stay) so needless to stay that teddy bear is special to me. DD keeps it at the top of the boys' closet for safekeeping but in view. 🙂 Never learned Sudoku, and also prefer the word eccentric over weirdo. Will pass on the meal and wine. We're having mid-high 70's this week, but it will drop 10-12 degrees starting tomorrow. I'm ready for fall, and the leaves have been falling already. We could use some rain too! @dfishDebbie safe trip, and I can't wait to meet you and Sue tomorrow! As I told you, I'm doing a self-test before your arrival -- it's taken over 2 days, the first time (yesterday) was negative and I expect today's result to be the same. Will let you know! 🙂 @Lady Hudsonprayers for your BIL. How awful... have you heard how he's doing now?
kb4683 Posted September 9, 2021 #32 Share Posted September 9, 2021 Good Morning, Dailylites! It's a rainy morning here thanks to Larry. Have been distracted the last few days due to finding out I have possibly been exposed to Covid 😮. Played cards last Wednesday and one of the ladies came down with symptoms Sunday/Monday and was tested positive on Tuesday. I went for a test yesterday and am on pins and needles waiting for the result. Anyway, enough of my sad tale. A big thank you to all who contribute here. Cheers to those on the celebratory list and healing thoughts to those on the care list. We have only been to Whittier once - 8/13/11 - it was a turnaround day for us as we were staying on the Diamond Princess for the return to Vancouver. We booked a glacier cruise on our own so here are some photos of that excursion. Of course, we'll have one 🍻 They even included lunch How about this big bad boy and his harem? Fishing boats in the sound Bergie bits Heading back to base My favorite marine mammal Wow, cookies too!! Some of downtown 29

Rare TiogaCruiser Posted September 9, 2021 #35 Share Posted September 9, 2021 Good Morning All, For the moment we have yucky cloud cover, which is supposed to burn off to heat. I have one teddy bear, given to me by my Mom, which I can’t get rid of. He was one she collected in the 80s when teddy bears were the craze. She brought him over, and gave him to me, dressed in my christening gown, when she was struggling with cognitive impairment/ dementia. @kazu I think the quote is saying he doesn’t deserve credit for turning the other cheek ( letting something “go” or “taking” something) because he’s already said something sarcastic/ ironic (tongue in cheek). Off to a visit this morning to a train yard, to watch a weekly train being “ built”. The tour is being lead by one of the conductors. Should be interesting.

garlictown Posted September 9, 2021 #37 Share Posted September 9, 2021 👍Thank you for The Daily, Rich @richwmn and to Roy @rafinmd for both the Care and Celebration Lists. I 'had' a bad habit of collecting Barista Bears from Starbucks...gave most away to the 3 granddaughters. 🧸🐻I still have the Paddington Bear, however. Having taught elementary grades, I do love stuffed animals, etc. Air quality is great here in Washington and my thing is touring State Capitols so that's what we did yesterday. 🚢We were on a Coral Princess starting in Vancouver and ending in Whittier...only remember boarding a bus to head to the Anchorage airport. 😯Bus driver did mention the moose on the road, lol!🤓 🙏Prayers to all in need and stay safe!😷 Katie 21

kplady Posted September 9, 2021 #40 Share Posted September 9, 2021 Good morning everyone! I haven't been posting for a while, but I've been reading everything every day. This is such a wonderful group of caring people, it's a joy to read, laugh, cry and rejoice with everyone! I have teddy bears that were made by a friend from my mother's mink stole and Persian lamb coat - unfortunately, they're put away so no pictures, sorry. The only time we were in Whittier was at the end of the land portion of our Coral Princess cruise. We took the train from Denali to Whittier....the train let us off directly across from the ship, so we never got to see the town. The tunnel was interesting, having to wait for cars to exit. The cars going in our direction had to wait for the train to pass first. Maybe if we get back there (we've been to Alaska 5 times!) we can visit the town. Busy day today with doctor appointments. Hoping everyone will have a good day, stays safe and is kind to others! Laura

Rare Vict0riann Posted September 9, 2021 #42 Share Posted September 9, 2021 Good morning, all, and thank you to Rich, Roy, Jacqui and the Food and Drink Ladies! And of course for all the pictures. Unfortunately the headline today was that Vancouver Island has surpassed its previous record of new cases for one day. I suppose I can at least be happy that DS and DD are not part of that number. I will be thinking of our Care and Celebrations lists today. I probably do 20 or 30 sudokus every day, as I have an app on my phone and iPad. Also the ones in the newspapers, plus a lot of jigsaw puzzles on my ipad and the cryptic crosswords in the newspapers. I must have a lot of spare time on my hands! Not Alaska, but there was an interesting item on the BBC yesterday about Mt. Kilimanjaro losing its snowcap - it was kind of funny seeing the present mountain under my painting of the mountain when we were there in the '70's. 22

We sailed into Seward on HAL last time. Love teddy bears and sudoku, best at the beach, lol! @dfish Wishing you a most Wonderful trip! We enjoyed an early Hallowe’en on the weekend.
