I'm well-stocked with fresh vegetables. For International Waterfall Day, here's a photo of Shequaga Falls in the center of the village of Montour Falls, about 20 miles from here.

I'm not enthusiastic enough about coconut to want to try the fluke. Definite no on the drink.

The wine is one that I would probably like, but I resent the review complaint that it's only 75% Cabernet Sauvignon. The classic Bordeaux blend is often only 70% Cabernet Sauvignon. In the U.S., some wineries that want to imitate the Bordeaux blend license the name "Meritage" for it, since they can't just call their wine Bordeaux, but I don't see anything wrong with labeling a 75% blend as Cabernet. The Hazlitt 1852 Cabernet that I posted yesterday would be a Finger Lakes alternative. It's 88% Cabernet but imagine that the crank at Wine Spectator would still complain. I'd prefer it only because it contains no Merlot.

I haven't been to Airlie Beach. My favorite Bertrand Russell quotation is "I would say that it's all Greek to me, but I know Greek."

Good cloudy morning. It’s supposed to rain and thunderstorm later today. We need the rain. drought warning is in effect.

I just read on the news about the horrible bus crash near Winnipeg, 15 dead and many more injured. Prayers are being sent 🙏💔

Blessings and prayers to all on our lists.

I heard about the crash several hours ago on UKTV and my first thought was how awful and prayers non of the nice Canadian posters on here were involved.

Sadly, the bus was full of seniors -  yes, 15 dead so far and at least 10 injured.  Collided with a tractor trailer.  No answer yet as to how it happened.  It’s all very tragic 😢. 🙏

Good Morning from an overcast but warm day at the beach

Crazy weather continues here. High winds and thunderstorms followed by sun and high temps. Yesterday it was thundering like crazy and people stayed on the beach!

Salute to Nursing assistants, they work very hard. I really enjoy waterfalls. Airlie Beach was on our trip in 2022 but was cancelled. From the research I did, it is a very small town but it is one of the access points for the Great Barrier Reef. I was going to do a small boat trip around the lagoon but....

    @St Pete Cruiser Beautiful photos.

@smitty34877  Extra thoughts and prayers for you and DH.

Going to do errands before the rains come in again.

Stay safe and enjoy today

Good morning, everyone!

It is a chilly start to the day here in mid-Michigan.  It is supposed to warm to the mid 70s by this afternoon and the sunshine shall return.  Prayers for those involved in the horrific bus crash.  High hopes for our Daily soccer player.   Let's also hope the other team has learned some sportsmanship.  Warm hugs for those with medical conditions that they are struggling with.

I have a Zoom meeting at 10:00 and then we'll do a short walk.  I'm making the Chicken Tzatziki for dinner tonight before our Farkle game, so I'll need to make a run to the store.

Fluke is a member of the flounder family and is often referred to as summer flounder.  It is considered an excellent food source with firm, mild tasting white flesh.  If you can't find fluke, you could substitute flounder.  Bon Appetit wouldn't let me in to get the recipe, but Epicurious did.   https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/fluke-poke-with-coconut-rice-and-pickled-onions

flukewithcoconutriceandpickledonions1.jpg.73a6491f9280fd8ac00d063909257fd7.jpg

As it sometimes happens, there were many websites with this exact recipe on them.  So, if you can't find fluke, you can use shrimp.  https://saltsisters.net/blogs/all-recipes/shrimp-with-coconut-rice-pickled-onion

Wishing you all a wonderful day.

Good morning from another cloudy and humid day in central Texas. It is 77F, feels like 77F, with 94% humidity and a dew point of 78F.  Our predicted high is 100F.  There were a lot of thunderstorms in the state yesterday, but they missed us.

The worst storm was in Perryton where a tornado killed three people and injured at least 10 in addition to destroying most of the town.  We have driven through Perryton a couple of times.  It is in the Panhandle northeast of Amarillo near the Oklahoma border. It is a town of about 8500 and is the hub and supply point for the ranchers in the area.

I join Graham @grapau27 in hoping no Dailyites were involved in the horrific bus crash in Manitoba.  While the cause of the crash is not known, I read it occurred at an intersection on a rural road.

Fresh veggies are good, and the medical community would be lost without good nursing assistants, many of whom we've met this last year.  My favorite day is Waterfall Day.

Bertrand Russell was correct with his quote for today.

We'll pass on the meal and the drink.  I'd like to try the wine, and the price is good.

We have not been to Arlie Beach, but sailed by there going from Cairns to Sydney if that counts.

I also remember when Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space.  It took the US a long time to send Sally K. Ride into space.

@aliaschief Bruce I hope you enjoy your stay in Bordeaux.

@seagarsmoker  Beautiful sunset picture.

@grapau27  Graham, I'm glad you enjoyed the Hollywood tour.  We thought it was a great tour when we did it in 2007.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, I'm so very sorry they cannot help your DF's brother.  I hope he can be made comfortable with the help of hospice.  Wishing Ren and the Jaguars a good tournament, and 🤞 fingers crossed the LA team are better sports this year.

@kazu  Jacqui, I hope your back loosens up soon.

@ottahand7  Nancy, I hope they get your road fixed soon.  Beautiful iris.

@St Pete Cruiser  Wonderful sunset pictures.

@smitty34877  Terry, I'm glad you have a day to regroup.

Today is laundry day, so I better get the first load going and take my walk before it gets any hotter outside.  At least, there is a pretty good breeze for the walk.  Then, it will be a quick trip into town to pick up a few things.

Thank you Rich, thank you Debbie, thank you Vanessa, thank you Ann, and thank you Dixie for all your work. And thank you everyone for being here! Have a Great Day!

Rain later today and the end of next week so it will probably slow our house painter down. He is going to paint a portion with the new color so we can better visualize the new color.

Stay Safe!

Good morning.

Thank you to Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Ann and Dixie, and all who keep this thread going.

Well, miraculously everything got packed yesterday.  This morning I have all the paperwork to get together and wait for a FedEx package that is supposed to be here by noon.  We will also wait for the mail—the last day and then expect to leave for Jacksonville about 1-1:30.

Our flight to JFK tomorrow is at 12;09 and then we have a 5 hour layover in JFK for a 7:30 flight to Heathrow.

Prayers for all that need them.  @smitty34877 You and your family, especially your DH are first and foremost as you go through this very difficult time.

We will happily skip all the F&B today as I am not cooking for the next 41 days.  YIPPEE!

I will post as I am able and with photos.

Take care everyone.

God Bless,

Terri

Good morning everyone!

This past week has been kind of weird; we had very bad sky alerts for a couple of days. On the news they reported that the alerts mirrored the level of smoke etc. that NYC had. We had orange skies; very unhealthy for all.

Much better today, woke up to 49F; the cold front blew the smoke away I guess.

Thanks to @richwmn for the FR&D that gets this thread off to a good start. Thanks to all of the other departments contributors and everyone else that contributes here; there are alot!. I enjoy them all.

Lots of really funny memes this week....I laughed right out loud at several of them!🤣

Nursing assistants are essential in healthcare and often under appreciated; I like that @rafinmd

called them super heroes, which they are IMHO.

Father's day will be celebrated here with a visit to the cemetary and lunch with siblings which is what our tradition is and has been since 1988. ❤️

Bon voyage to @Cruzin Terri, it is a much deserved vacation!

Prayers for everyone especially those with health challenges; cheers to all celebrating!

Take good care all, be safe and have a good weekend!

Caron

Good morning, all! Fresh vegetables and waterfalls are good things to celebrate. We’re back in the time of year where fresh veggies are plentiful, but I’m still not used to the prices now!

Yesterday was spent on the phone with Shaw. They deactivated my email account when I started sending emails from Africa. It was flagged as fraudulent activity. And now I have my account back, with 2500 emails that came in over those months. Oh well, lots to still sort out.

That is terrible news about the bus crash in Winnipeg. It sounds like Humboldt all over again.

Happy Friday, and cheers to our favorite BHB’s, wherever they may be!

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily.  We always have fresh veggies on hand and often enjoy veggies and dip with a drink in the pergola as an appetizer before dinner.  Waterfalls are quite beautiful, and nursing assistants can be a godsend.  I like today's quote, and think I'd appreciate the drink of the day without the pilsner topping.

Canada is reeling from the news yesterday of the horrific crash in Manitoba that took the lives of 15 senior citizens who were a group of 25 going out for a casino trip.   They were crossing the Trans Canada #1 highway when the accident occurred; I can't imagine the strength it took for the first responders when they arrived on scene.  My prayers go out to all who were involved, especially for those still in hospital.  It is eerily reminiscent of a similar crash in our province in April, 2018 when 16 members of a junior hockey team were killed when their bus was struck by a semi trailer truck.

It's a cool morning at only 8 degrees (46F), but we've got clear skies and an expected high of 25 (77) which will mean a very pleasant day.  We don't have any weeding to do, but I have to create an ant killing cocktail because I see we've got many mounds in the lawns on all 3 sides of the house.  I have to find the borax and get started on it right after breakfast.

Not a lot on the agenda today, just hanging around the house and yard.  I've been busy making coasters to use up my fabric stash from mask making during the pandemic and have made 8 sets so far.  I've likely got enough fabric to make at least that many and possibly even more.  I like to keep busy.

@StLouisCruiserssad to hear there's nothing more that can be done for your DF's DB; prayers for him to be made comfortable.

@ottahand7what beautiful photos of your iris plants!

@Quartzsite Cruiserthat's terrible news about the tornado in Perryton; I can't imagine going through something like that.

Thank you to everyone for your Happy Birthday wishes for our DS; we had a great face time visit with him and his family last night, with the boys wanting to tell us all about their trip to Japan, school, soccer, etc.

Today's menu suggestion sounds like it should be served on a banana leaf on a tropical island somewhere; while I'd like to try it, I'm pretty sure DH wouldn't be too impressed.  I like that the wine is reasonably priced - and a red!  It's Friday night pizza night, so we'll be checking the menus to see what appeals to us and will be able to enjoy our pizza on the deck tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Safe travels later today Terri.  I know you do the driving and there could be some bad weather near your destination.  Take your time and get off the road when you come across anything that makes you nervous, just to wait it out.  This will be a great cruise and we will be happy to hear from you along the way if possible.

@StLouisCruisers Sandi, I’m sad to hear doctors seem unable to help you DF’s brother. I believe there is always hope. We went to Houston to MDAnderson when DH was diagnosed with cancer because a friend from my church had such amazing help from them. She was told by her local doctors that with her stage 4 cancer there was nothing they could do. She was a retired OR nurse and wouldn’t accept that news. MDAnderson performed surgery, provided chemo and then radiation. That was in late 2018/2019. She’s doing great!  It wasn’t easy but she’s a Star in my book!  I will pray for their guidance!  And hope!

Our two granddaughters are CNAs, certified nursing aids. That has opened doors for them. One was a live-in caregiver for 3 years. They are working in other types of jobs now but they keep their certifications up to date.

Prayers for all involved with the horrible crash in Manitoba. It’s staggering. My last initiative with my NM fire department was to develop response plans for MCIs, mass casualty incidents. I worked on it for a year. It was the type of work I couldn’t have done with only 5 or even 10 years experience because it takes such a breadth of systems- approach understanding.  I hope they never need the operations charts I designed for them because it’s all to human to be overwhelmed: Incident Command and Communications; EMS and Transport; Fire Response; Site Logistics. It’s a complex response needing every aspect of response coordination and safety: triage and extrication of wounded; fire response, suppression and containment; road closures but ambulance pass-through, coming in and going out; communications with outlying areas, responders, hospitals and news media; coverage for the “normal” calls still coming in; helicopter landing zones; accountability of patients and scene personnel; chaplains; morgue and coroner; scene security of crime investigations; police coordination and securing during afterwards. It’s a response team’s nightmare but each one will rise to do their best beyond themselves. I keep in mind that all the seniors on the bus were out touring and enjoying life!  It’s a bit of consolation I hope their families can take solace from.

@smitty34877 I’m so glad your appts are coming up quickly. Keep moving forward!  The Cape awaits— when the timing is right!

@Cruzin Terri No more dinners to make! 🎉. 41 Yays! Blessings for all smooth travels!

Thank you all for the encouragement, fun, knowledge, support and beauty shared here!  @ottahand7 your irises are magnificent. Thank you for sharing. 🙏Blessings to all in need of healing, comfort, hope or direction. 🍾 Cheers to those celebrating. Life is Good!  🌈

Smooth travels to all who are away. Enjoy every day!

Happy Friday! I slept until my alarm went off, something I haven’t done in ages. Usually I’m up an hour or 2 before and can’t go back to sleep so I get up.

My front bumper liner has been “hanging” but hasn’t been a problem until yesterday.  I had pulled in to a parking space and as I backed out it got caught on the parking curb and almost pulled my bumper off! 😱 But I didn’t know that immediately. I had heard this crunching noise and I thought I had run over something, so I got out to look around the tires and didn’t see anything. Luckily I was only a couple blocks from home and drove home with no issues.

When I got home that’s when I noticed that both sides of the bumper were pulled away from the car (I just pounded it back into place 😉) and when I looked under the car the liner was about 3 inches from the ground! Well, I couldn’t pound this back into place and I didn’t want to drive it like that for fear the bumper could be pulled off as I was driving. So I called my son-in-law. He put it back in place in no time. 👏

It’s a 17yo Honda but keeps going. I’ve had some work done but nothing major. 🤞 I know I’ll need to get a new car sometime but I hate the thought of a car payment. But I know it’s gonna happen.

Thank you all for caring and sharing.

DD who lives near you has dug out the triple layer cloth masks I made her during Covid and is using them to filter the smoke. I hope I don’t need to start making them again as the summer goes on!

@Horizon chaser 1957 Not trying to sound snarky or directive but now that mask supplies, post Covid are available; why not purchase a mask with most protection such as K9 or better. Cloth mask in the beginning, when we had no mask were available offered minimal protection.

Bruce, I’m with you there. I’ve still got a small stash of some DD in Taiwan sent me that have a charcoal filter layer in them. They are intended for air pollution caused by traffic and factories, but also do an awesome job on smoke. We’ve used them the last couple of summers when the smoke was bad in B.C.

Still, fitted triple layer tight weave cloth is better than nothing, and it’s what she had in her car.

Good morning. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

Fresh veggies are the best, but I often buy frozen to minimize waste. I love waterfalls and photograph them a lot. NA's are an important component of healthcare staffing. Great quote. Pass on the meal (fish) and drink, yes to the wine. A salute to the first woman in space.

I haven't been to Airlie Beach.

I did manage to get the lawn mowed yesterday. It wasn't too bad as it wasn't hot, and was overcast; but the grass pollen count was very high and that bothered me. Then we had lightning, thunder and much needed rain that woke me about midnight. It's cloudy today. Downtown is going to be very busy here; Taylor Swift concerts tonight and tomorrow at the stadium, and Juneteenth events from today through Monday. I'll stay in the suburbs where I live.

Prayers for the victims of the tornadoes in Texas.

@aliaschief Enjoy Bordeaux!

@StLouisCruisers So sorry to hear the news about Mark; continued prayers for him and his family, and you. Good luck to Ren and his team, and I hope they aren't attacked by any opposing players.

@kazu I hope your back doesn't hurt too much.

@ottahand7 Sorry it's taking so long for the road repair. Beautiful irises.

@St Pete Cruiser Beautiful sunset!

@smitty34877 Continued prayers for DH and you as you travel through this journey.

@Cruzin Terri Safe travels today and tomorrow.

@Horizon chaser 1957 Wow on the email situation.

@dobiemom Thanks goodness SIL was able to fix the car issue for you.

Prayers for all in need and Cheers for those with something to celebrate.

Good morning all!

Another kind of cloudy day, mid 60's again.  But at least not raining (yet).  I'll be finishing the laundry I started yesterday, and do some gardening. Today would have been my sister's 82nd birthday.  She passed after a long battle with cancer at the age of 69.  She and I shared the love of gardening, and I always feel her presence in my garden.

I love fresh veggies and the best are freshly picked from my own garden when possible.  Waterfalls are wonderful, as are nursing assistants. I admire everyone who is in the medical field, it's hard, hard work.

Good quote, will pass on the red wine.  The drink sounds interesting, not sure about it, but would try it. We don't have Fluke here (I see that it's an east coast fish) but the coconut rice would ruin it for me even if I substituted another white fish.  And sadly even low sodium soy sauce is off limits for me so I try to avoid dishes with that ingredient.

Airlie Beach is on the Grand Australia itinerary and I'm trying to find something to do there.  One idea is to walk part of the Bicentennial Walkway if it isn't too hot.  Hoping there will be some photos today!

Here is a photo of our most well-known waterfall, Snoqualmie Falls with Salish Lodge in the background.

FallsandSalishLodge.thumb.jpg.53dcbccbbdb37e90f7d733589a6ef143.jpg

Prayers for the families and victims of the horrific crash in Manitoba.  How very, very sad.
