The Fleet Report and Daily for Friday June 23rd, 202

Good morning from a partly cloudy central Texas.  It looks like it will be an okay day for yardwork, and it's the last of our 90F high temperatures for a while.  Beginning  tomorrow, we'll be in the triple digits with highs ranging from 101 to 107 for the several days.  Next Saturday will see us back in the 90s for a week.  Today's predicted high will be 95F.  It is now 76F and feels like 76F.  The humidity is 98% with a dew point of 75F.  It should not be too uncomfortable when I get outside about 8 am.🤞

I salute all the widows, especially the ones on the Daily and those in my neighborhood who are adjusting to a new reality.  In the past couple of years, I have been letting go of a lot of unneeded things around here so the DDs won't have to deal with it.  There are still too many things left though.  I have been trying to let go of past hurtful things and worries, but that is not nearly as easy.  By coincidence, the sweat band I picked out for the mowing is pink and the t-shirt I will wear after my shower has pink in it.

Another very true quote today.

The meal would be nice if someone cooked it for us, and I'd like to try the drink and the wine, but not at that price.

We have been to Grundarfjordur twice, and I'll look for my pictures in a few minutes.  It is an easily walkable small town.

It's nice that we have an Icelandic port on the day we celebrate the formation of their parliament, the world's oldest.  The modern Olympic games have changed greatly since their formation in 1894.

@rafinmd  Roy, I'm happy that you are having minimal pain from the tooth extraction yesterday.  Enjoy your special day.

@dfish  Debbie, I'm sorry your allergies are so bad right now.  Have you tried using Flonase?  DH and our younger DD use it daily during allergy season and while they still suffer, it does make a difference.  Enjoy your lunch with former classmates.

@ottahand7  Nancy, I'm sorry about your toe and I hope it heals quickly.  Thank you for more wonderful pictures of your iris.  Ours stopped blooming two months ago.

@smitty34877  Terry, we are lucky in our small community that the widows are accepted by all their friends.  My nextdoor neighbor and I often laugh at things that happened as we were growing up.

@Heartgrove  Jack, I hope they can start the house painting soon.

On September 9, 2009, we arrived in Grundarfjordur on Tahitian Princess.  The weather was not the best, cool and rainy, but we enjoyed our walk around the town.  Grundarfjordur is a small town located on a bay on the north side of  the Snaefellsnes Peninsula.  On August 17, 2016, on the first day of an overnight stop in Reykjavik on Prinsendam, we rented a car and drove around the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, stopping in Grundarfjordur.

The entire area is beautiful, and we enjoyed our visits there.  These pictures are a combination from our two visits, and you can tell the difference in the weather.

In 2009, on our walk around town, we saw these little ones at recess.

Good Morning Everyone, thanks for today’s daily report.  Rain is in the forecast for the next several days.  I’ll pass on today’s meal suggestion but have no idea what we will have.

@rafinmd Happy Birthday.

@Mr. Boston I agree with you about today’s quote.

@dfish the message we received overnight about traffic is correct.  A main tunnel will be closed for most of the summer.

I hope everyone has a good day today.

Good morning,

Fortunately I still feel good about my decision to sell the Mustang. My biggest fear was waking up regretting it. Now the challenge is figuring out the new car! So many bells and whistles.

Ouch @ottahand7 !  Make sure to watch for infection. With the break in the nail bed and if there is a fracture in the bone it is considered an open fracture and chance for infection in the bone. I did not think my nail bed was involved but found out it was when it got infected.

I hate to be part of the widows day but the let it go is definitely pertinent to being a widow.

It will be another hot day. I will get any errands run this morning.

Prayers for all in need. Have a great day.

Good morning to all!

I am sure I am missing some important news as I only have been able to skim the board. @kazu I hope Ivan is doing better and hugs for widow day from me.  (The friend I am traveling with is also a widow). I think I said happy birthday to Roy yesterday 🫣 so I was getting ahead of the game!

I am in Denver and the had a tornado yesterday right after we got here. 🤐  but we will stay until Sunday. Lots to see here as my friend has really never been anywhere.

we’ll have a nice Friday everyone!

@rafinmdhappy birthday! Wishing you many more happy and healthy years.

we had rain overnight, lovely garden rain, soothing. So soothing I slept until 8:45!  We needed the rain. I just hope tomorrow is clear. It is the second weekend of Windsor’s carousel of the nations and we are hoping to go to the Bavarian village.

Good morning/afternoon from St. Mali, France. Our excursion to majestic Mont-Saint-Michel was interesting but oh my was it crowded. Hundreds of school outings and tons of tourist. I struggled with the steep climb and many steps. Since my aortic valve replacement I’m on medicine that keeps my heart rate down. Works fine but when you’re ascending and your heart rate stays low the lungs start pleading to heart to speed up we need more oxygen! I have always wanted to see this marvel on an island and another bucket list checked off.

Happy Birthday @rafinmd Roy!🎂

Tomorrow we visit Cherbourg, France. Seeing we have been there our plan is to walk around and have a nice lunch.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  Huge respect for all the widows and widowers for managing the struggles of living daily without their partners.  I'm trying to let it go by getting rid of things that are only significant to me - it isn't easy, but it feels good once the bags are dropped off at the thrift store.  I don't have a lot of pink in my wardrobe, but will try to find something suitable.

Last night we sat outside enjoying the calm and quiet, having  Aperol Spritzes when we figured it was likely time to head indoors.  It was 10:30 and still light out - that's the kind of summer evenings we typically enjoy.  At 10, you could easily have read the newspaper, and when we came into the house it was just starting to get a bit dark.  This morning is nice with some big white puffy clouds and a slight breeze - we're expecting a high of 26C (78F) which will be a comfortable temperature if we're going to do any yard work today.  There's not a lot to do, as the fellow came and mowed the lawns, so I think I'll use some time to transplant the jade plant I cut down about a month ago.

@rafinmdHappy Birthday to you!  Enjoy your day as you celebrate another trip around the sun!

@ottahand7 oh my gosh, I was feeling pain and anxiety just reading about your episode!  I do hope the healing goes well - owie!!

Yesterday I did something I haven't done in a very long time - I cancelled our January cruise.  DH told me he was only lukewarm (more like lukecool) about going, and with the exception of only 1 port (St. Lucia), he really didn't care about the others.  He said he'd go, but just because I wanted to . . . really, it didn't make sense.  I could go and try to enjoy myself while he's just having a "meh" time?  Why waste the money?  So I cancelled it.   Never fear, I won't stop looking for cruises that will appeal to both of us.

I'd love to try the drink of the day and would like to buy the wine from the auction house.  If I recall correctly, we had some amazing black bass fish sandwiches at Porto Moniz when we were on a tour with @kazu and others last November.  It was so delicious!  No fish on the menu tonight - it's Friday night pizza night at our house, so we'll head out to one of the small pizza places near us and pick up something we can enjoy on the deck this evening.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, especially for the families of the people in the submersible Titan.  A sad note - it was announced yesterday that another lady has succumbed to the injuries she sustained in the horrible bus/semi crash in Manitoba.  Cheers to all with celebrations today.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Gerry

Good morning. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily @richwmn.

Becoming a widow is certainly tragic, so I send support to all widows (and widowers). I try to let things go (feelings and possessions), but sometimes it's hard. I like pink shirts and have several. Interesting quote. Pass on the meal (fish) and the drink and yes to the wine.

I haven't been to Grundarfjordur.

It's cloudy and cool here today with rain this afternoon, and the weekend. I had a good time at the anniversary celebration yesterday, seeing many old friends. A bit later I'm headed to PT. My quads are sore just from the seemingly small exercises I've done since Tuesday.

@ottahand7 Oh no on the toe injury. You were brave to tackle treating that yourself! Watch out for any sign of infection. Gorgeous irises.

@kazu (((Hugs))) during this difficult time.

@Quartzsite Cruiser Great photos, thanks.

@superoma I hope you get to the Bavarian village; sounds like fun!

@aliaschief It looks like you had great weather at Mon Saint-Michel. I remember those steps and I was a lot younger then.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers to those Celebrating.

Be well everyone.

I don't think that I have any pink clothing. I'm going to hold that the day refers to Dianthus species, the flowers called pinks.

OK on the fish, NOK on the cocktail. Since the wine comes from the region that produces the best Pinot Noir in the world, I won't suggest an alternative. I haven't had a port call at <pedant> Grundarfjörður </pedant>.

I woke at 2:00 a.m. and didn't get black to sleep until after 4:30, so I'm not firing on all cylinders this morning. It hasn't started to rain yet, but still feels like it will at any moment.

Good morning all!

We're enjoying a couple days of gorgeous weather, lots of sun and will get up to the mid 70's today.  Yesterday between gardening several neighbors and I chatted a long time, catching up on each others' lives.  With all the rain and cool weather we've had lately it was nice to be out.

Support and respect for our Daily widows.  My BFF was widowed and now, after a decade or so, is remarried to a wonderful man who we all love dearly.  She (and he) know how lucky they are.  She certainly wasn't looking for another marriage.

I don't have much pink in my clothing other than a sweat shirt, and it will be too warm to wear that today.  Last week I was wearing it though.  I should be "letting go" of possessions, but I'm just not "there" yet.  Instead I feel that I've been letting go $$$ as I book tours for the Grand Australia -- a lot just this week lol.

Will pass on the red wine, would try the drink, and not sure about the meal.  It could be very good...but tonight will be bbq steak, potato salad and asparagus.  We've been to Iceland but not this port.  Thank you Lenda @Quartzsite Cruiserfor the great photos!

HAPPY 80'th BIRTHDAY Roy @rafinmd!!  Enjoy that cake and ice cream. 🙂

Nancy @ottahand7 OUCH about the toe!!  So sorry that happened.  Thank you for the photos of the Iris -- beautiful colors!

Jacqui @kazu I'm sorry you had a rough day yesterday 😞  How is Ivan doing today?

Bruce @aliaschief It was extremely crowded at Mont-Saint-Michel when we were there in 2009 (?) too.  Wall-to-wall people.

Well, fortunately, we are coming in the day before and our outbound flight isn't until late afternoon.  Hopefully we'll be ok.

I've tried Flonase and have allergy meds, but they aren't enough right now.  I think I'll be better on Sunday when the level of grass pollen goes down.

🎂🎉🌈 Happy birthday wishes to Roy @rafinmdMay you begin an inspiring 81st year!

I’m disappointed that our married granddaughter and her husband changed their plan from visiting this weekend to coming next weekend due to work issues, but they’ll be able to spend an extra day with us then so that will be grand. I made 2 pies yesterday and have squeezed them into the freezer 🤞

I’m having more friends and family becoming widows. It’s a difficult shift to make in life and there seems no way to prepare ourselves for its all-encompassing impacts. My VDH is 12 years older than I so I expect my time of widowhood will come. Until then I am more and more grateful for every day!  When we moved to Maryland from New Mexico it was very hard to start a new chapter, but my wise pastor reminded me that this won’t be my last chapter. Nothing is constant but change. Hugs to all our widowed Dailyites. Know you are surrounded by love!

I/we let go so much stuff before we moved! Two lifetimes’ worth, and a lot from our mothers.  My question for each item was, “Will this enhance my life as I move forward? If no, then maybe it will help someone else.”  We gave away truckloads of stuff- clothes, kitchen wares, tools, shoes and snow boots, books and more books, record albums, old luggage, furniture, skis of every size collected for the growing kids…. No one wanted the big sets of dishes but nearly everyone in our families took something of grandma’s/great-grandma’s - a couple of place settings, a serving dish, tablecloths, a couple of wine glasses, candle holders etc. I shipped nearly 50 boxes to all corners of the country. And we still have too much stuff! 😳

We haven’t been to today’s port but enjoyed Iceland and it’s ancient parliament.  It’s quite an interesting place to visit.  Thank you for the photos Lenda.

I will have leftover rockfish for supper, kinda like a sea bass. DH will have leftover meatloaf. Last night we took our heritage picnic basket 🧺 to the church picnic which moved indoors for the rain. I had a salad with cubed Turkey breast, he had meatloaf, a favorite!  It was a fun time. Today I’ll be back over there for my monthly Companioning group. And then indoor pool for hip exercises…. it’s another blessedly cool, drizzly day!  I’m so grateful!

@ger_77 Gerry, I understand about not doing a cruise when the timing isn’t right. We’ve been looking but it’s just not time yet. Enjoying today!

Blessings to all in need of healing (especially Nancy’s toe @ottahand7 and Roy’s non-tooth @rafinmd and Annie’s back @marshhawk) and for comfort (thinking of Jacqui @kazu and the families of tragic losses) and for hope (thinking of @smitty34877 and all those with difficult diagnoses). And all the Dailyites who contribute to the caring love and fun of this community!

Cheers to all those celebrating 🥳 Life is Good!

Smooth travels to all away!  Enjoy it all! @0106 how did you get from VA to Denver so fast?  I must have missed something!  Glad for you that your travels are going well! Thanks for keeping us posted.

Stay well and safe everyone!
Maureen

Sorry you cancelled your plans, Gerry but if it was “meh” I don’t blame you a bit.  The early booking bonus is still on for our 2024 October cruise whether you do the 25 day or one of the segments.  Can’t blame a girl for trying 😉 😂

Good morning. I am a bit sleepy this morning as I stayed up past my usual bedtime to watch (again)  a Ken Burns' Country Music segment. The dogs of course got me up at the usual time. I think it will be a slow day today.

Blue bubbles are not working this morning so HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ROY!!! and Jacqui... I am glad to hear that Ivan is perking up. You know, the move to his new home with you would have been stressful.... no matter how calm he appeared to be about it. I hope that is all. I know how we pet parents worry.

I have very little that is pink and I have not been to today's destination although I have been to Iceland and would love to return. Meanwhile I continue to sort (slowly) and to book some excursions for the Grand Australia ..... lots of activity there on the roll call, perhaps a bit more than I can handle just now.

My best wishes to all ..... and take care.

Happy Friday.  Thank you to Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Dixie, and Ann as well as the birthday wishes (so far, as I type) from @dobiemom and @cat shepard..  Best wishes for our Widow dailyites.  I think I'll take a pass on pink, and yesterday was my day to let of of a tooth  (minimal pain so far).  I love today's quote but have not been to Grundarfjordur.  I'll pass on the bass.  My obvious alternative today is birthday cake.

Off to Wegmans soon.

Roy

I hope you are having a great birthday Roy.
