Yes, sending healing prayers to so many. Lahaina is on my mind, we only visited once, on the Eurodam in Spring, 2019. We booked this cruise for a time to think about & talk about DH’s retirement date. We walked through Lahaina, shopped and spoke with so many shop keepers (and almost purchased a beautiful bird sculpture!). When we returned to the ship, we agreed that we understood how so many feel that Maui is the most beautiful of all islands.
We are spending our last week away from home, thankful that we could enjoy a nice summer traveling in western USA. In September, I will go to AZ for a week or so and visit with DM (who has finally been “deemed” eligible for Hospice care 😊) while DH enjoys a fishing weekend with old friends.
Thank you all for The Daily, the stories, the cares and concerns, the positivity and the love!
P.S. DH did retire in 2019, but when offered a part-time, work from anywhere in the world position last year, he happily accepted. 🙂

Terry @smitty34877 Sending fervent prayers your way!

I won't touch presidential jokes either, will send messages to DS and DD that this is their day!  No playing in the sand today.  I'll pass on the red wine and spicy meal, but would try the drink.  Have not been to the port.

This afternoon we'll pick up the youngest DGS and have him for the weekend.  He's looking forward to having us to himself and having fun 😉  Today we'll go to a matinee (he wants to see Elemental).  We just saw it with his brother when we had him here, but will sit through it again 😅 The problem is it isn't playing in many places now so that will be tricky. Of course if he wanted to see Barbie, that would be easy.  Not going to happen lol.

I was very relieved yesterday when BFF let me know that her step-daughter's home and her DH's business all made it through the fire!  Apparently his business was one of the only that didn't burn down in that area.  They're counting their blessings!

I better get busy so we can pick up DGS on time.

Prayers for all on the care list and cheers for those celebrating!

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

I'll pass on presidential jokes, have no children, and like to play in the sand (although I'm not a beach person). Good quote. I'll pass on the meal (fish) and drink, and take the wine. I haven't been to Port Elizabeth.

It's a nice day today, not too humid or hot. I'm in between appointments. I saw GI this morning, and have PT this afternoon.

@StLouisCruisers I hope by now the weather has improved. Congrats to Ren on being asked to go to the tournament with the team.

@cat shepard Wow on that fast sale of your neighbor's house.

@Cruzin Terri I'm glad you passed the termite inspection, and hopefully can figure out what's going on with that door frame. And I hope the floors get fixed soon. Yay, for choosing to go on your trip to Italy and cruise! You can do as little or as much as you feel like doing.

@marshhawk I hope DH is still feeling ok. Strange about the cats disappearing.

@Quartzsite Cruiser Fingers crossed the convertible runs well after this fix.

@ger_77 Good news that DH's angiogram was clear. I hope the pacemaker gets done soon and has him feeling less fatigue.

@RMLincoln Great to hear that DH's eye checkup was good yesterday. Safe travels tomorrow.

@rafinmd Thanks for the nice photos from Port Elizabeth.

@Norseh2o Enjoy your summer travels.

@smitty34877 Praying there's a positive update about Lou.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers to those with something to Celebrate.

Good morning. Still sunny, dry and windy. Don't know how cool it got last night. I was up so early this morning I did not look at anything. Dogs were walked in the dark. I had an early morning lab appointment at the hospital (routine I hope) and was back in town and searching out breakfast by 9. Dogs are not happy with the change in routine.

Terry (blue bubble is not working!!!) keeping Lou in my prayers.

Like others I will avoid Presidential jokes.

More later.... I need to try to get myself back on track.

Susan

A report on our stop in Djupivogur...Aug. 11, 2023.  We had a foggy beginning but it eventually cleared some though it wasn't what you would call sunny.  It was at least a 10 minute tender ride to shore.  Here is a pic of the town of Djupivogur from the ship.IMG_0228.thumb.JPG.e1e51607c4012516cc06d4c171c2265a.JPG

Good morning for a few more minutes.  It is now about 96F and I'm in for the remainder of the day.

The good news is Ms Crystal's Garage is now temporarily closed.  The new coil arrived before 9 am, and I already had the engine ready to replace it.  Between the prep work and the installation, we had breakfast.  Overall the job took less than an hour including gathering the tools needed and putting them away.  We took what was going to be a short drive, but because of our rough roads, we went a little further to find a smoother road.  The verdict is the car is running better than it has in about seven months.  There is still a slight vibration or miss, so we suspect another coil is beginning to go bad, but not bad enough yet to show a code on the engine analyzer.  DH has ordered four more coils, but I am waiting until it's a little cooler or when the one gets really bad to replace them.  Since these are the original coils and were the original sparkplugs I'm not surprised they were beginning to cause problems.  The car is a 2013 model, and we bought it in the fall of 2012.

Up next for the convertible is an oil change, new oil filter and a new air filter.  However,  Ms Crystal's Garage will only handle the air filter.  The car will go to our local station for the oil change.  Ms Crystal does not get under cars, and feels the potential for a big oily mess is to great to even consider tackling an oil change.  😁

Besides, I managed to complete the work on the car this week unscathed -- no cuts, bruises, scrapes, etc.  I want to keep it that way.  🤣

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  I'll pass on the presidential jokes, but will happily celebrate Son & Daughter day.  I messaged our DS, wishing him a happy Friday already.  I'd like to play in the sand, but right now it would be all wet, as it seems to have rained lightly all night long.

The skies are grey, I can hear rain gently falling and there's a slight breeze, so it looks like we'll be having an indoor day today.  The rain began late yesterday afternoon and could continue for a number of hours; hopefully it will also rain on the fires in our province.  Speaking of fires, my heart breaks for the people of Lahaina and all over Hawaii who are dealing with the devastating fires there.

DH had his angiogram yesterday and it went well - thanks to all for your care and concern.  The doctor said the grafts from his sextuple bypass in 1998 are still holding nicely and although some of the minor vessels are showing calcification, he said they were not anything to worry about.  He understood about getting the pacemaker though, as DH's heart is not pumping fast enough.  Now we just have to wait for the phone call telling us when he'll be scheduled for pacemaker implantation.

@smitty34877oh my goodness, how distressing to hear; sending love and prayers to both you and Lou.

@marshhawkif DH likes flavoured water, that might help getting him to drink as much as he needs.

@Seasick Sailoryesterday you mentioned terrible leg cramps at night - have you tried Gatorade?  DH started drinking a bottle of Gatorade daily and finds he rarely gets leg cramps; electrolyte imbalance is a major cause of cramps.

I would like to try the drink of the day, as I love sparkling grapefruit water or soda, and like the fact that this is the year we should drink the wine!  I've never been a huge fan of whole fish, although I've had some over the years, but DH just takes a hard pass whenever it's on a menu.  It's Friday night pizza night at our house, so I'll head out to a little pizza place not far from here and get a couple of personal pan size pizzas for us to enjoy on the deck tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Gerry

Gerry, I'm glad your DH got a good report yesterday and hope the pacemaker procedure is scheduled soon.  I'm glad you are getting some much needed rain, and I hope it is also falling on the fires in your area.

@smitty34877  prayers are coming your way. How distressing. You have been such a wonderful care giver. I still have no news on Murphy. I am afraid to ask. Today is DGS first day of kindergarten. I have DGD today as she starts a new preschool on Monday.

Prayers for all and have a good day day.

Lorraine, I hope your DGS has a good first day of kindergarten, and that DGD likes her new preschool when she starts Monday.  Enjoy your day with her.  I hope that no news is good news for Murphy.

I did get there off the Crystal Serenity in 2014 on a cruise to Cape Town where I transferred to the Amsterdam, avoiding a LONG flight home.  My notes say my tours were cancelled so I just walked around town a bit.  The way out of the port was not pedestrian friendly but a Campanile Bell Tower was a nice landmark on the way out:

campanile.jpg

Much like Manaus, there's quite a nice looking opera house.

Near the center of town is the rather large Georges Park:

georgespark.jpg

At the entrance to St. Georges Park there's a memorial for WW1:

Closer to the port there Fort Frederick, not a lot more now than ruins:

It has a nice view of the harbor:

Roy, thanks for the pictures of Port Elizabeth.  Hopefully, we'll see it one day.

Carolyn, I was glad to see some good news from Maui.  I'm happy that your BFF's step-daughter and her DH' house and business were spared in the fire, and that they are safe.

Terry, thanks for taking the time to give us an update.  I hope the blood transfusion will solve the problem, and that they can find away to keep up the chemo and not mess up the bloodwork.  We are all pulling for both of you.

Nice comfortable, but dry weather here in the Pacific NW.  Thought I would share an incident that happened this morning so you all could avoid it.  I have an older iPhone Xr.  It is in a leather case and I was trying to pry it out of the case to put a paper with phone numbers back there.  Suddenly got a loud warning noise and it automatically called for help.  Finally turned it off, but then got a call asking what was my emergency.  Told him no problem and what happened and thanked him for responding.  Then went online to find out what triggered the call.  Apparently on that type of phone, if you simultaneously push a button on both sides of the phone, it will call for help.  I did that trying to pry the phone from its leather case.  Now I know.

Have my monthly eye appointment at the retina center for the shot in the left eye.  Sounds worse than it is.  Looks like the treatment doesn't cure what they call neovascular AMD, but it does seem to keep it from getting worse.

Greetings everyone.

@smitty34877 hugs for you and I am glad there is progress in Lou’s treatment.  He is where he needs to be right now.

We are currently on our way to Reykjavik after a busy day in Djupivogur.  We took a tour organized by a CC Roll Call member.  It was a bit of a drive, but worth it when we got to the Glacier Lagoon.

Good morning and thanks all! @smitty34877 sending hugs and prayers that the transfusion does the trick!   So sorry you are going through this!

@Quartzsite Cruiser I am in awe!

thanks to Sandi and Debbie for the interesting photos!

We spent much of yesterday in the Er with DS but what they thought was a break was a very bad sprain.   Hoping he can heal quickly as he needs to travel early next week.  So grateful for the Good Samaritan who stayed with him and provided drinks.

sending this for Lou!

Debbie @dfish those are cool photos from your excursion today. So many different things to do and see in Iceland.

I’ve checked and I don’t think I posted a photo taken at our CC meet and greet on July 31.  I’ll include it here. Last night Debbie and Sue came into Ocean Bar right after we did and we had time for a drink and chat before our dinner plans. We’re all keeping busy here but it was fun to catch up!

What a relief that your DH’s angiogram went well.  so happy to hear that.

I hope the wait for the pacemaker implantation is not too long and all goes well 🙏

DH had a good followup check yesterday. He’s on track, pressures are good, still on post-op eye drops tapering down. She’s pleased!  Thank you all for your continued support. He’ll see her 31 Aug for an optic nerve scan and exam, maybe we’ll discuss discontinuing eye drops?  So much to be thankful for!

Wonderful news 🙂. I am so glad for you both!
