Susan is with the grandkids this afternoon (eating ice cream, I hear) while I drove my daughter the 1.5 hours to the hospital for her appointment this afternoon. So while I am waiting, here is some food porn from last Thursday. The grandkids had been to the Apple Castle to pick apples, and they wanted to make an apple pie. They did everything themselves, other than cut the apples. Granddaughter is still slow and steady with her knife skills. The pie turned out so good, that I didn’t get a chance for a picture, before this much was gone. They done good!

He was a "stealth twin" and no one knew he was on the way, since back in 1974 they didn't do routine sonograms during pregnancy. His identical brother was born first without issue, but then when the surprise baby made his entrance, there were complications that resulted in him having cerebral palsy on his right side. He underwent several surgeries on his right eye and right leg during his childhood. In spite of this, he is the most positive person I know, not self-conscious at all. He has adapted to every situation, even learning to bathe and diaper our baby with one hand. I am so proud of him and so grateful that I get to share life with him. ❤️ Happy Birthday to your dear and very special Hubby 💝

Sunshine3601 Posted August 23, 2022 #68830 Share Posted August 23, 2022 Just had thunderstorms roll and pouring rain for about 20 to 30 minutes. Earlier today was drizzly but heard other areas got rain. I guess washing cars yesterday worked😁

I agree that renting an Oceanfront condo is great if you want a lot of beach time. You can find a variety of condos to fit your budget. If you're more into high end resort hotels, there's the Ritz Carlton and the Omni. Neither are cheap but both are very nice facilities with great amenities (spa, pools, restaurants, etc.). If you want a nice, but more affordable hotel, there's a Hampton Inn, a Residence Inn (both on Sadler Road) and a new Springhill Suites/Courtyard by Marriott on Altantic Avenue. All 4 are a short walk to the beach. If you prefer wandering around the historic downtown Fernandina Beach area, there's a Hampton Inn there as well. There are also several B&Bs in historic homes around downtown Fernandina Beach. The downtown area is where most of the best restaurants are located. Other things to do: Golf at The Oak Marsh course at the Omni is available through the Golf Now app. The Omni also has a new 10 hole par 3 course called Little Sandy that's challenging but fun. They will supply clubs if you need them. It might only be available to Omni guests though. Charter boat rentals for fishing, sunset cruises, etc. from the downtown marina area. Backwater Cat Adventure is a lot of fun. It's driving fast little go cart like boats following a guide. We did the Cumberland Island tour and loved it. Kayaking through several parts of the island and the Amelia river. Lots of biking trails. Bike rentals are available from a couple of places. Let me know if interested. If you're more adventurous, there's skydiving and power hang gliding. I did the power hand gliding also and really enjoyed it. There's a small but interesting Amelia Island Museum of History. Takes 1-2 hours to go through, depending on how much you read. There are also docent led tours. There's also a small shrimping museum. Shopping in the downtown area, including touristy stuff, some nice clothing stores, a few jewelry places, and several artist shops. You can get more info about places to stay, places to eat, and things to do here. Thank you so much!

Speaking of Canada, you also must complete the Arrive Can app on the phone that nobody at check in at the port even looked at... Paradoxically when working and constrained by paid time off we travelled far more than we have the last three years. We always dreamt that when retired we would travel more and for longer, but the reality because of covid and now new grandchildren is that we haven't . But we have booked an ABC cruise from Florida next year so looking forward to that 👌

lenquixote66 Posted August 23, 2022 #68846 Share Posted August 23, 2022 I had Moh’s surgery yesterday morning and now have a hole in my head ,no jokes please. The hole is the size of a quarter and about 1/4 “” deep. The surgeon said it was too big to suture and gave me three options: 1) A human skin transplant. He said this procedure has been used the past two years and is the fastest way to heal.No showering for a week and treatments every week for 6 weeks. He said Medicare covers the procedure but health insurance carriers do not.The side effects are possible infections. 2) A skin graft using skin from my chest.I had this in 2010 and was not happy with the results. 3) Letting the area heal on its own ,washing it twice a day and applying an ointment. This way is the longest way to heal. He gave me an hour to decide ,the time from removing the first layer till he got the results from his lab.I had to have a second layer removed and had more time to think. I opted for number 3.Toby treated many hospital patients in this manner when she was an RN. My forehead will not look good for months but I only go out of the house for medical appointments .

Lenny, I hope you feel better fast and everything heals good. Don't worry about your forehead not looking good. Just feel good and be positive. And to have someone as experienced as Toby in the field, looking after you 24/7 is good. I wish you have a great recovery.
