I have grandchildren in Orange County California and my son told me that the three I mentioned are not being taught, classes are mainly in Math, Science and English and other languages. Maybe curriculum is based on where you live in the country.

True. Curriculum is based primarily on State standards and to a lesser degree  on local boards of education.

Here are the course outlines for Orange County schools.   History/Social Studies seems well represented.

Good afternoon!

@grapau27Graham, thanks so much for posting the weekly sermons.  Your vicar has a wonderful way with words, and I'm enjoying them every week!

@smitty34877Happy birthday!

Laura

Thank you Laura.

I am happy to share our weekly church sermons.

Father David is a really nice person who we have known for about 20 years.

Good morning all. Thanks Rich and Roy and all who feed me food and drink porn. I love it. And thanks for the port pictures, it is a place I have never been. Today I continue the chores of dusting everything in the cabinets. When I left I cleaned everything but when I got back it was as if I hadn’t left and everything was covered in dust. I think the dust fairies snuck in while I was gone and had a party.

I share my birthday with John Hancock and intend to celebrate by NOT cooking today. We are getting restaurant takeout(as opposed to diner takeout) for dinner and I very much look forward to it. DD is baking a cake so I will be a princess for the day.

Happy Birthday! Enjoy your princess day! You definitely deserve it.

Good morning everyone and Happy Sunday. Thank you for today’s sermon Graham @grapau27. Are these posted on YouTube?  I would love to share them but I couldn’t figure out how.

I don’t write much anymore except for shopping lists because of my arthritis. Happy Birthday to John Hancock. I’ll pass on the rhubarb pie but I will celebrate other pie’s today.  Gerry @ger_77 I also have difficulty with making pie dough.  I’ve made a version of @HAL Sailer’s but use vodka in place of the vinegar.  However, I don’t make it from scratch very often because it’s so easy to use the Pillsbury crusts.

Thank you for the recipes Debbie @dfish. I also loved your QC pictures and am looking forward to meeting you there in October.

Terry @smitty34877 Happy Birthday!!  Enjoy your special day. 🧁🎈🎂🎊

Jacqui @kazu so sorry about canceling your May cruise. But under the circumstances it’s understandable.

Welcome to the Daily @MISTER 67!

Joy @Seasick Sailor I loved your pictures.

I have been to QC twice and think I have some pictures on the hard drive that I’ll post later.

I feel like I’m missing commenting about something. I had a multi quote going but lost it when I got sidetracked making a Costco and TJ’s list for Craig.  So if I missed something or a special occasion know that did read everything.

Have a great day everyone!

Father David WhatsApps us Sunday's sermon at 7.30am before church service.

You should be able to copy my video if you use an Android mobile phone and press on the screen and click on Download video.

Father David has set up a FB page.St Paul's church Ryhope.

Welcome to @0106 and @MISTER 67 and a very happy birthday to @smitty34877!!  🎉

I am very sorry to hear of the cancelled cruises @ger_77 @kazu.  Even sadder to know the reasons why.  💐

The second of the new aides just came. He will be alternating with a woman who has been earlier this week. She was very nice so fingers crossed that he will work out because I am really at the end of my ability to,cope with so many different people coming and going. Our new schedule is from 8am to 8pm and it’s working out fine. I was nervous to be alone at night but Sam stays in bed once he gets there which he does before the aide leaves.

My FIL had a series of strokes and they now have aides who come in the AM and PM to help with getting him up and ready for the day, PT, then getting him back to bed again.  There is another team who comes to prep their meals (FIL requires a special puréed diet) as well as doing the grocery shopping and housekeeping.  It works out really well.  I hope your new arrangement also gives you the same peace of mind.  🌹

I am not much of a pie person but will make both savory and sweet every once in a while.  For years I sucked at making pastry until I found this recipe.  Now my pies turn out fantastic!

P.S.  My chocolate brownies turned out perfectly.  Also, cocoa powder now comes in resealable plastic bags so my obsession with squishing all the air out, prior to sealing, caused cocoa powder to cover me from head to toe, including all over the cupboards and floor.  I suggest you don’t do that.  Sure smelled good though.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily.

Pie is ok, but I don't eat it often; I prefer cake. Handwriting has suffered in the digital age; my Mother was a teacher and taught the Palmer method of handwriting (hers was wonderful). Due to needing to take notes quickly in college, I switched to printing. Not a rhubarb fan.

Funny quote.

I like the rigatoni, but too carby for me. I'll pass on the drink and wine.

I have never been to Quebec City. Thanks for the pictures.

It's not as cold here today (27F), but it's snowing. It's the fine powdery kind. More tomorrow too. Sigh.

@kazu Keeping Jose and you in my prayers. Understandably, you had to cancel the cruise, but sad.

@smitty34877 HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 🎂

@grapau27 Thanks for today's sermon.

@dfish Sorry your hands are bothering you after working on the ice. A few years ago my water line from the street had a leak. My sidewalk became covered with ice. I blocked it with caution tape and spent days working with an ice chipper, so I know how your hands feel.

@0106 @MISTER 67 Welcome to the Daily.

@mamaofami Fingers crossed that the new male aide works out.

@bobpatj @Queen of DaNile Bon Voyage!

@Cruising-along Congrats on DS and DDIL getting a house. Sorry to hear of Covid in the family and I hope the cases are mild. Hoping DD's kitty improves again.

Prayers for the Care List and a toast to the Celebration List.

Stay safe everyone.

Great photos, thanks for posting, brought back memories.

We visited Quebec City way back in 1975 on a road trip from Chicago which included Toronto and Montreal. Quebec City is a beautiful city and I'm wondering if anyone has seen the great Hitchcock movie from the 1950s called ''I Confess'' starring Montgomery Cliff and Anne Baxter. It was shot on location in Q.C. and in black and white with some very interesting and eerie photography that only Hitchcock could come up with.

Like many others, I learned cursive writing in grade school, but as a freshman studying engineering at University of Washington, I learned to print legibly in an engineering drawing course.  I still sign my name on checks, though.  One thing about using checks:  I have a few magazine subscriptions and I always pay them by check.  I found that if I don't, they will "for my convenience" automatically renew my subscription paying for it with my online banking account.  This would be convenient, except a $10. subscription will be automatically renewed at something like $23.  So if I pay by check they have no way of doing that.  My DW doesn't write cursive, but writes very legibly in Chinese, so I admire her for that.  I tried to learn, but finally gave up.

Just made a pie crust after reading all the comments about pies.  The Crisco recipe came through again.  Now, it's off to Blythe to get some apples for Dutch apple pie.  By the time it is finished, it should still be warm for desert and topped with vanilla ice cream.  Now, besides wine, I just have to figure out what we'll have with our wine before desert.  It may not be a big meal since we had French toast for breakfast, and we're not used to a big breakfast except on a BHB.

Everyone has been so kind and welcoming, thank you!

I am an almost retired Md high school teacher.  Our students are required to take, American Government, World History, US History and Economics.

Thanks to those who substitute teachers.  We couldn’t do it without you.

My student can neither read nor write cursive.

I love rhubarb and strawberry rhubarb pie is my favorite.  People say I’m a good cook but I’m not a good baker.  My grandmother made the best pie crust, only used Crisco.  She always told me I “played” with the dough to much.

Yum, we love sauerkraut in Baltimore.  Must have with turkey.  John Shields, chef of Gertrude’s at the Baltimore Museum of Art, is having his annual Kraut Fest this week.

Off to watch football, have a pleasant rest of your day!

Good morning All.  I'm so sorry to see that both @ger_77and @kazuhad to cancel their lovely plans.  Seems like each day brings something where the only thing to do is "take a deep breath."

I guess today is my day, as I enjoy baking and eating pies AND, like @ger_77, my handwriting is good.  I've always enjoyed shaping letters in interesting ways.  Go figure.  Gotta admit, though, there's not much use for it anymore.  I write so few checks now that it takes a split second to remember how to fill in the blanks.

@0106, welcome to the Daily.  Your photos are delightful!  @MISTER 67, I thought I'd seen you post before, but perhaps that was on another thread.  Welcome!  DH is an avid golfer, too.

Bon Voyage to @bobpatjand @Queen of DaNile!  Wishing both of you a great cruise!

To everyone:  Thanks for the contributions to the Daily and wishing all a joyful day.

Maxine

Thanks for the welcome, I've posted many times on the HAL board and posted the other day here on The Daily and might have posted something here one other time a while back.

They, my adult children, are very concerned with my welfare.   I appreciate that. We are very close. Their dad and I cruised for many years and they understand it was something we treasured every year   Now I am solo and I appreciate their  concern.

We were in Quebec City in October, 2013.  Flew in a day early before boarding the Emerald Princess for a repositioning cruise to Fort Lauderdale.

October 25, welcome to 🇨🇦 -- freezing rain, something we are not used to seeing here in Central Florida!

IMG_0001.thumb.jpg.2089b125ba04a47b3242246738e1455b.jpg

But we perservered in our pursuit of that famous (infamous) dish -- poutine 😃

Next stop was Erico Chocolaterie 😋

October 26 (my BD), we woke to see the Emerald had arrived and was waiting for us

October 27 - we had spent the night before on the ship and took a tour to Montmorency Falls and Ille d'Orleans.  We have already seen photos of the falls, so I will share an experience we had at the other stop.  They took us to a place where they showed us how maple syrup is done.

Then they poured the syrup onto an ice bed that had lines dug into it, we were each given a wooden stick and made our own maple syrup "lollipops".

The final picture was taken about 6:20 am on Aug. 29, 2018 as the Quest pulled up to the dock in Quebec City.  The sun was rising and shining on the Fairmont.  I love the color of the brick with the lighting early in the morning.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVKtevAtaUla3UUYrXa6YSBS?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1538516542
