Good afternoon.  Well, the Dutch apple pie is in the oven and mynfingers are crossed.  When I was putting the apples in the pie plate, I realized I had  ut too many.  That didn't stop me from piling them high before I put the crumb topping on.  We may have to eatnithe pie in a bowl, butn s DH said, it will still taste good.  Just in case, I have the pie on a cookie sheet to catch any juice that runs over.

Good morning all!

Another foggy morning, 34F heading to mid 40's.

Our family loves pie, at family gatherings you'll find nearly 1 pie per person on the dessert table.  I've been the designated "pie baker" since Mom passed away, but my dear sister is getting better every year and her crust is as good as mine now 😉 .  Rhubarb pie is one of the few I don't care for, that and pecan.  I'll take pie over cake any day.

I had fairly nice handwriting until arthritis hit, now it's too painful to write more than a line at a time.  Great quote, will pass on the meal (carbs) and drink, the wine sounds good.  I don't think I've ever had a wine from Slovenia.

We've been to Quebec City more times than I can count, and will be there again with several fellow CC'rs this fall on the Nieuw Statendam.  My photos would be the same as any others posted, so won't look for mine. 🙂

Yesterday was a day of highs and lows for our family.  We're ecstatic that after 3 weeks of looking and making offers on 3 houses but losing them, DS and DDIL now have a house here after moving up from CA.  It's only 14 miles from us (but with traffic about 30 minutes) and we're thrilled.

Our lows were hearing that a niece and great-niece (not the same family) have Covid now.  We're most concerned that our other niece (Mom to our great-niece) gets it, she has MS.  She's vaxed and boosted, praying that will be enough.

The other low is that our DD's kitty Parkour, after being home nearly a week from the kitty ER and doing well, has had a couple bad days.  He stopped eating, so it was difficult to get the antibiotics, anti-nausea and other meds into him those days.  I think that has improved, but won't know until I contact her today.

Welcome to the Daily @0106and @MISTER 67!

Happy Birthday @smitty34877!!

@Quartzsite CruiserI've always used Crisco for my crusts too.  They've always turned out great.

My Dad was the champion pie eater up until his death at nearly 102.  You would always find him enjoying several different kinds on his plate.

At his 101st birthday party, there were 7 pies with candles.

1350783757_Dads101stbirthdaypies.jpg.569279ae1d744ae88bf287eb5b546ee3.jpg

A typical photo of Dad enjoying several kinds of pie.  Here he was 94 years old.

Very happy your DS and family now have a house close to you.  Sorry your niece and grandmeice have covid.  Hope it doesn't spread to other family members.  Also, hope the kitty gets better.  Loved the pictures of your father.

Good morning all. Thanks Rich and Roy and all who feed me food and drink porn. I love it. And thanks for the port pictures, it is a place I have never been. Today I continue the chores of dusting everything in the cabinets. When I left I cleaned everything but when I got back it was as if I hadn’t left and everything was covered in dust. I think the dust fairies snuck in while I was gone and had a party.

I'm glad our house isn't the only one visited by dust fairies. 🤣

They, my adult children, are very concerned with my welfare.   I appreciate that. We are very close. Their dad and I cruised for many years and they understand it was something we treasured every year   Now I am solo and I appreciate their  concern.

We're lucky that our adult children love to travel and don't bug us when we book another cruose.  You might tell them that cruising is a safe way for single women to trqvel.

Somehow I didn’t notice that today’s destination was Quebec. We’ve been there on two cruises and one land trip.Actually, our last cruise was to celebrate our 60th anniversary in September 2019 and we started out spending a few days in Quebec first. Actually, Jacqui helped us with some of the details of that cruise.

Its 3:30:and so far the new male aide seems good. Maybe I can finally relax and know Sam will get good care and I will be ok with someone in the house.

Carol

🤞 Carol, fingers crossed that this is the one.

Good day and thanks all! Love rhubarb muffins and strawberry rhubarb pie,  that pie recipe is like my grandma’s.   Thanks for the gorgeous photos of our beautiful.Quebec City.  We visited dining the summer festival and stayed at the Chateau Frontenac on a wonderful trip.
@smitty34877 happy birthday Terry!
@kazusorry to hear you needed to cancel, but understandable.   We just sent a note to our TA to cancel our May cruise as well.   Looks like we have another club, the cancelled cruisers😩

@StLouisCruisers driving stick on the other side is an adventure, shifting with your left hand🙃

a special thanks to all the multiquoters, this thread gets so long and I’m only half way through.

Sorry you had to cancel your cruise

@Vict0riann  Ann, I thought I added you tomthe multiquote.  I'm sorry your cousin Vicki has been diagnosed with ALS.  It's a horrible disease.

We were concerned too about @WCB after her comment about being worried about the covid test yesterday.

You must be so bummed out about Crystal, Roy.  I know I am.  We never did sail on Crystal, and I was very anxious to do that.  Now....never to be.

As far as I know, there is no "like product" out there -- the size of ship and level of service combined.  It seemed perfect.  Darn...  😞

Our neighbours loved Crystal as did one of my good friends so we too had hoped to try it one day.
and alas, @rafinmd those cookies!

I like rhubarb and rhubarb/strawberry pie but my favorites are lemon meringue and key lime. Way back in the late 50's when I was a new bride I attempted to make a pie. The crust was so tough that it had to be cut with a butcher knife. Never again.

I think it must be  a rite of passage for new brides, my firsts attempt I used a bread board to roll the crust on,  unfortunately I got some splinters in the crust.🤢. Later I was consoled by an older lady who told me that in  her first cherry pie she neglected to pit the cherries 🤷‍♀️

Thank you for The Daily. Today is a mending and sewing day with fabric from Walmart (thank you Kona Walmart for keeping the fine fabric section!) and decision-making for DH birthday dessert on 1/25.  Love all pies, cherry and apples are tops, ah rhubarb (leave the strawberries for shortcake, please). DD bakes the best pies but maybe a Costco pumpkin this year is the right choice?!
DH has taken over DD’s kitchen and with football in the background, has made refried beans, black beans and a meat dish, all from scratch with hopes of a good Mexican meal. Both DDs (one in Kona and one in Seattle) despair with the lack of Mexican food in their lives, hopeful that tonight’s dinner is ok. He made rather good French Onion soup yesterday, too.

@ger_77 & others with cancelled cruises are in my heart.

Thank you @grapau27 for the sermons for worship, I always enjoy them, especially while traveling.

Good evening. As always, thank you Rich, and Roy, and all those who contribute and make the Daily a must do. We aren't frequent posters, but we follow the thread every day. We pray when anyone has a need, and we celebrate along with all good news.

Happy Birthday @smitty34877

Sorry to hear of cancelled cruises, hopefully this will be behind us soon and everyone who is ailing will be healthy and ready to cruise again.

We are newbs compared to this crowd, with only 5 cruises so far, and we thoroughly enjoy and appreciate seeing all of the places that you all have been. We did visit Quebec 4 years ago on our only cruise to date on a line other than HAL. It is a wonderful city and we very much hope to see it again.

I have a lot to catch up on here but wanted to post before dinner.

Thank you for all the lists and updates.  We had a wonderful week helping with our grandchildren.  Now we are  back on the coast enjoying the beautiful weather and quiet!

Plan to do  yard work tomorrow and even mow the lawn!  It has sure grown with all the rain and then sunshine.  A walk on the beach is also on the list of things to do tomorrow.  Can't work all the time!

Prayers to all on the care list and cheers to those celebrating.  While DH watches football this evening I will catch up on all the news.

Stay well and safe.

So much happening today on the Daily.  I like rhubarb pie, my favorite pies are French Silk, and Pecan.  Yes I make the pecan, but not the French Silk.  Krogers used to have a wonderful French silk pie, but I haven't noticed any pies in the bakery department recently.  I don't even bother trying to make a pie crust, so my hats off to any one who bakes.  My mother prohibited me from being in the kitchen to learn to cook, so for the last 42 years since I moved south, I create, but have no other training except my taste buds.  This might explain why the DH eats better when he isn't eating here.  LOL.

@ottahand7 I wish I was closer to you, while DH is away, that would be a perfect time to sneak in a new cat.

@0106 Welcome!

@smitty34877Happy Birthday!  hope it's great!

@kazu You are finding and storing salt for the snow, like I am storing cat food for the fur babies.

I read a few years ago, that the ability to sign your name in script changes as you get older, and when it doesn't look like your writing, it's time to get checked for Alzheimer's.  When I sign my checks, I realize I'm signing Amn instead of Ann.  I'm hoping that's because I just cant see well close up.

I too am going to look up the Hitchcock film, because I never have heard of it, and once every two years, DH and I do a Hitchcock marathon.  I am looking forward to adding a new film to our festival.

Last night after I  posted, I saw an ad on the internet that asked-what are you going to be coming back as on your next reincarnation?   I couldn't resist.  But apparently I'll just be coming back as an idiot because it created a virus on my computer.  And my IT guy (DH) said, oh go ahead and use it any way.  So since he is still out of town, I came on the read the daily today.

👍Returning from the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet

(Viviane wanted souvenirs) on the bus which

is only $1 with your Medicare Card this afternoon, I met 2 couples from the Koningsdam. They said no Kauai for their itinerary and they won't be leaving Oahu until 9:30 tonight on their 17 night cruise.😉

Yes, March 14 is Pi day.  I used to celebrate with my students and they did all kinds of projects for Pi day.  Of course, one was bringing in a pie for all of us to enjoy.  Oh, my, the sugar overload that day!  But we also had some fashion designers in the crowd and a line of Pi clothing - shirts, belts, ties, socks.

Good evening.  We were in Quebec on the Eurodam on October 3rd 2015.  It was DH’s birthday.  It was freezing  out that day and very windy and after about 4 hours we returned to the ship and were enjoying a glass of wine and Dive In hamburgers.  DD called to wish DH a happy birthday and told us about this great guy she just started dating.  Fast forward to today- DD is married to that great guy and they are expecting their first child in just a few weeks.  I will always have fond memories of our very cold day In Quebec.

@bennybearI’m sorry to welcome you and @kazuto the Canceled Cruises Club.  It’s a disappointment having to cancel when so many preparations have already been made for a wonderful holiday.  We have to look ahead at brighter days with cruise ships in our future.

Smooth Sailing!🙂🙂🙂

Hi Katie.  Did the Konnigsdam people say why Kauai was cancelled?  Enjoy your time in Hawaii!  I just looked at possibly renting a condo I have stayed in a couple times in the past in Maui and all the VRBO owners have raised their prices by more than double from pre Covid rates!!! I "get" trying to recoup some losses, but it really sounds greedy to be charging over $500 per day for a place that was around $250 in 2019!!  I could be on very nice cruise for what they are charging now!!!

@rafinmdRoy, I'm sad about Crystal Cruises also.....it was my favorite.

Quick update., the pie wasi deemed very good by DH.  As thick as it was, some of the apples weren't cooked all the way, but it didn’t detract from the pie.  Dutch apple pie ala mode is hard to beat.  In addtion to the pie, we wound up having sreaks and asparagus.  DH always cooks great steaks, but he out did himself tonight.

Well this is my third time of attempting to post today.

The first was at 10 am.  Then something took me away and i stopped.

At 11 am we watch Mass on TV.  i will not go back to Church until i see that they enforce a mask policy and stop packing everyone in.  So until then we stream Mass from our parish on our TV.

I needed to do some grocery shopping so I was busy this afternoon.

I tried against to post and then had a phone call, so that attempt went by the wayside.

Now I am finally posting.

Nice combination of days.  i like pie, but not rhubarb pie.  I pride myself on my handwriting.  Every time I am complimented on my handwriting I tell people I went to Catholic School.   I think it is a shame that cursive writing is no longer taught in school.

A funny story about my writing.  When we went to get our first COVID shots back last January, I had completed the forms for myself, DH, and DBIL in my best printing.  While on line to get our shots, a nurse came along waving our forms and wanted to know who filled them out.  When I saw the forms were ours, I admitted, I completed them.  She said they were the neatest forms she had seen all day.  I was expecting her to tell me I had done something wrong.

I have to report that I dutifully took all my meds today.  I am feeling better, but not back to where I was before. thank you all for your prayers.

Yesterday was a strange day.  At first it was rainy and cold.  Then the sun came out. It didn’t warm up much.  Everyday we get an Informed delivery report from the post office by email telling us what mail we are getting.  It has the images of the envelopes.  yesterday it showed 9 pieces of mail.  It never arrived.   I posted on the local Next Door App.  Many people did not receive mail yesterday in our area.  It really wasn’t terrible weather.  Don’t know what’s going on.

@smitty34877Happy Birthday.  May you have many more and hope you had a wonderful day.

Welcome to @MISTER 67and @0106.  We’re happy to have you join us.

@mamaofamiGlad the aides are working out for you.

@kazu Sorry you had to cancel your cruise, but you would not be happy leaving Jose alone.  It is the right thing to do.  I know how hard that is.  We had to cancel three in a row a number of years ago and it was hard.

Tomorrow DH and I are going to Jacksonsville to the Mayo Clinic.  I will have blood work to determine the inflammation level and whether I can lower the prednisone dosage,.  I will also have the lump removed on my upper left arm.  Praying that it is benign. Will report when I have the results.

Since I will be in Jacksonville tomorrow, I will go to the Apple Store. Believe it or not it is the closest one to me (176 miles) and I will finally get my new IPad.  I asked Santa for one and he came through.  I just haven’t had the opportunity to get it.  So tomorrow is the day.

I think I covered all I have to report today.

So both DH and i are packed and ready to go tomorrow

God Bless and Good night.

Terri
