Just had a fun 3 days in Dallas.  Drove into the hospital Monday night just before the ice storm.  Getting ready to leave and go home now as it's starting to melt.  Been working and then sleeping on a hard couch between shifts.  Ready to go home and pack for Allure.  Thankfully this mess will be gone by the weekend.

So here is my VRBO story, and yes, they are going up in price.

 

After keeping our holiday tradition alive, having our kids and grandkids join us in a Ft. Lauderdale house rental for Christmas and New Year, my daughter (being optimistic ) asked if we were booking one for next Christmas and New Year.  Of course, by the time she asked, the one we were staying in this year was already booked for next year.  Too bad, because of all the ones we have rented, we liked that one the best.

 

After searching, we found one that met our requirements (house had to have a pool and hot tub, and be close to the beach).  It was advertised to accommodate 9 of us, and had a price we could live with.

 

Within hours of receiving the rental document, they sent an email saying that Ft. Lauderdale changed their short term rental requirements, and that they could only accommodate 8 of us.  And they said “By the way, if you still want it for that week, the rate will be $6k more for the holiday week and heat for the pool.”

 

Needless to say, we moved on and booked another place for the holidays.  That is the second time that has happened to us.

 

I keep telling everyone, we could all take a cruise for about the same price that we end up spending on a rental, plus food and eating in restaurants.  Unfortunately my daughter is so prone to motion sickness that we will never get her back on a cruise.

Might make it to the grocery store today , ice is melting, the Detroit Pistons played against the Mavs Monday and they have been stuck in Dallas since , hopefully airports will resume soon.

Dani, we have already booked one of the Hilton hotels.  We got a new credit card and the bonus points paid for Hilton and our stop over in California. 

What is also going to be a challenge is now there are 6 of us going.

Well, may be the "sting" of 50$ for parking will be easier when split in 3 😉

 

DH found driving in all the 4 islands we visited during our cruise very easy and enjoyable, and for me, a huge surprise to find clean restrooms in the "middle of nowhere".

 

@Arzeena  When my cousin and her DH were asleep in the back seats [including the travel pillows...], he joked that all he's missing is a formal driver cap ☹️

When is your trip to Hawaii?  Saturday, April 29 is the Spam Jam Festival, and the streets in Waikiki will be closed for the festival.  About the only way to get around during that festival is by walking. 
 

I never tasted so many flavors of spam.  It is an interesting festival.

Our Sarah had her spinal injections which were extremely painful but she said yesterday they haven't helped as much as she hoped.

I have no idea about FL short term rental requirements to comment on that but to say the rate will be $6K more than what they posted online is wrong in so many ways.    As a landlord posting rentals on VRBO website I know you have the option to change rates (per day, per week, etc.) for holidays, spring break whatever the reason there is a way for them to properly disclose the rate on the VRBO site.   

If they want to play those games with their pricing I hope the home sits vacant next Christmas!

Wow, looks like we will just miss it!  Saturday, April 29, we fly into LAX, spend the night, and fly to Hawaii on Sunday.  Ship sails Tuesday at I think 9pm.
