Rabbit, Rabbit, White Rabbit!  Good morning friends!  Oooh, it's cold outside!  36 degrees with a high of only 55 today though we will see loads of sunshine thankfully.  Thanks go to Rich @richwmn for the Fleet Report and Daily for November 1, 2023.  It's All Saints Day by the way.

Nice days to celebrate today and an interesting quote.  I bet the chicken dish is good but why so many extra ingredients in the mojitos?  Not sure about the wine.  It's always good to celebrate vaccines that save lives.  Thanks to Debbie @dfish, Dixie @summer slope and Ann @cat shepard for their food and beverage reports.

Prayers for all our Daily friends, my family and friends with serious concerns, victims of shootings, and of course those involved in protecting themselves and their countries overseas.  Congratulations to everyone enjoying cruises, birthdays, anniversaries and the assorted celebrations!  Our friend Annie @marshhawk and Chuck @catmando are going to be in Funchal, Madeira today as they make their way across the pond to HOME.  Hoping they are well and enjoying themselves.  Thank you Vanessa @JazzyV for your Care and Celebration lists.  Praying for you to be pain free very soon.

The port of the day is Juneau, Alaska, a nice port of call during the Alaska season.  It has only been our port of the day one time before, believe it or not.  And that time was March 14, 2021 - 2 1/2 years ago!.  Amazing!  It's not easy getting to the links from that far back but I did find it so here is that link.  My pictures from that far back often disappear from old posts but I will find them anyway and place in my second posting.  Hoping you can find your photos.

I noticed this morning that Zuiderdam was moving along in a southerly direction in the Red Sea instead of Aqaba, Jordan.  I guess they've had to adjust their itinerary.  There are a lot of U.S. Navy ships in the Red Sea right now.  I hope they all stay safe over there.

Have a great day everyone!  Stay safe and well.

Rabbit   Rabbit   White Rabbit

Thanks for the Report.

Welcome November, please be a good month.

I appreciate authors, I usually don't cook for Bertie, literacy is extremely important.

Interesting quote.

Love chicken, looking forward to seeing recipes.  I'll pass on the drink but would like the wine.

We were in Juneau many years ago on our first HAL cruise.

Prayers for our world.

Have a great day.

Good Morning, thanks for today’s daily fleet report.  It’s a cold morning with a threat of flurries later today.  Last night Tucker had his check up and all is good.  The doctor sent home some treats for the kids.  Today’s meal suggestion sounds good to me, tonight we will have leftover roast chicken.  It will be a busy work morning.  I hope everyone has a good day today.

Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Dixie, and Ann for the Hump Day (and first November) report.  I'll pass on cooking for pets but celebrate Authors and Literacy (connection there?).

I like the Chesterton statement.  and will celebrate vaccines including diphtheria.

I expect most of us have been to Juneau many times.

The meal sounds nice.  My alternative is custom cooked Lido Omelet (mine is ham and bacon), my final meal on MS Amsterdam.  It had to be the best of the day as I disembarked and flew to Rome to board MS Prinsendam and everything that followed was airline food.  The photo is actually from MS Eurodam:

Will be a COLD day today.

Good morning dailyites as we are close to docking in St John's Antigua.

We had a wonderful evening yesterday.  I had crab cakes for dinner and was surprised they were very good. Rum raisin ice cream for dessert. 😀  We went to the comedy show in the theater it was good.

The ship had very little movement and I slept a solid 5 hours, which is great for me.

No plans today other than walking with the ladies as they shop....

I hope everyone has a great day and hopefully will check in later.

Rabbit, rabbit, white rabbit.

Thanks for our Hump Day Daily, Rich.

and thanks to Vanessa, Dixie, Debbie & Ann.

What a great collection of days.  Love that we are celebrating authors and family literacy on the same day.  So appropriate and both are so very important.  I’m sure Ivan would like me to cook for him today.  Not going to happen 😉 I might give him a piece of what I have if it is safe for him 😉

IMG_1111.webp.350222ff0e994e0526af5ac2e1d26a08.webp

Interesting quote - I suspect many people look at life that way.  Meal suggestion sounds interesting today.  Hurrah for this important day in history and the vaccine to protect others 👍

IMG_1117.jpeg.f79d139a7ea45ab7a90481e22b2d343e.jpeg

It is very c-c-c-cold here with a “feels like” of -10 C.  I think that’s around 14 F.

Too much stuff left over from Hallowe’en. 😞. Not sure if the cold kept the kiddies away or if things are just dying down in our neighbourhood.

IMG_1130.thumb.jpeg.a5097d231a3642d3dd277233ca170e2b.jpeg

And once again I have another appointment - snow tires today.  Thank heavens I made the appointment before the snow hit 😉.  They will be swamped with requests now.  Ivan will be in Kong heaven again.  I hate the wait and this job.  That was DD DH’s job and I hate doing “his” jobs.  Oh well, it is what it is.

Warnings of more snow - if the cold front moves right it will miss us (and if not, we get more 😔 ) and just go to Nova Scotia.  they can have it - they didn’t get ours last time.

IMG_1121.jpeg.37416ae91395c2a76c1ee38b922725a3.jpeg

Hopefully things warm up as they should, snow goes and the buried leaves & plants can be dealt with 🤞

Prayers for those on the Care list, those suffering losses, heath issues, worries and those that need them 🙏.   Cheers to those celebrating and cruising 🥂

Good morning! Well the ships Halloween Party was rocking in the Club and I must say there were some interesting costumes along with some ghoulish drinks being handed out by the bar staff. After our lobster lunch we passed on the Seafood Extravaganza in the Colonnade when we got a call that there was an opening at the Grill. We were on the Wait List. So after a cocktail in the Observation Lounge we went to the Grill only to find the entrance had been blocked off. Turns out a lady had collapsed dining in there and that portion of the restaurant had to be sanitized. We were met and escorted to another entrance and enjoyed another meal in the grill. I had lamb chops and Susan had the Dover Sole. Received word the lady was OK and under observation.

Today we are going to sail through the Cape Cod Canal as we sail toward NYC. It’s of particular interest to me as my first assignment in the Air Force was on Cape Code at Otis AFB. It will be of interest to see local landmarks that I have not seen since 1969.

Weather is cool and a good chance of showers.

So that’s what’s happening on the Quest Thanks for the Reports. Bruce

For a lot of cruisers, Alaska is their first cruise.  It was for us.  I remember back in 2001 at Thanksgiving dinner.  DDIL said “I'd love to take an Alaskan cruise”.  DH said “me too”!  DS and I looked at them and said, "uhhh, okay!!".  DDIL contacted a travel agent and set it all up for July 2002.  We were such newbies we didn't even know we should fill out all the paperwork online ahead of time so it took us a while to get checked in.  But we had a wonderful trip and that is what got us started on cruising.

Way back on July 17, 2002 we were in Juneau on Star Princess, where DS and DDIL went horseback riding at the Mendenhall glacier.  They were wearing rain capes since it was a little showery at times.  They enjoyed it a lot!  Aww, they look so young.

Some of the scenery along the way.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

Not to mention the glacier!

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

Meanwhile DH and I walked around town and went up the Mount Roberts Tramway.  Here's the Star Princess below us.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

The sun came out as we prepared to leave that day, of course.  Doesn't it always happen that way?  Here I am watching the sea planes take off and land.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

I remembered something about our first cruise to Alaska in 2002.  We were out on the decks in Glacier Bay moving about the ship to get different views, when I looked down and saw a diamond tennis bracelet laying there.  I put it in my coat pocket and finished watching the glaciers.  A half hour later I went to Guest Services and dropped off the bracelet, giving my details.  Right in the middle of it all, another clerk was taking a call from a woman who was distraught over losing her mother's tennis bracelet which was quite unique.  It was passed down to her.  They had her describe it and it matched the one I brought in.  So she came down to retrieve it, and sent DH and I a bottle of champagne as thanks.  I always hope someone will do the same if I lost a piece of jewelry or a camera, etc.  This is where I found the bracelet, either just before or just after the photo was taken.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

In 2009 we did back to back Alaska cruises on Sapphire Princess.  That worked out very well since the first week the weather in Glacier Bay was so bad, and we had to turn around and leave to try to beat a huge storm in the Gulf of Alaska.  On the second segment of our cruise the weather in Glacier Bay was sunny, windless, and almost warm.  The photos turned out great!

We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary on these cruises.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

In 2009 in Juneau we took a long walk around town, and even walked to see what the Governor's Mansion looked like.

After our tour about town, we boarded a local bus that took tourists out to Mendenhall Glacier since we hadn't seen it in 2002.  Here is the glacier again, and an interesting display of glacier ice.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

The next week we docked in Juneau on Sept. 16 but the weather was rainy and miserable, so the only photos taken that day were of another ship coming into port, and our Captain’s Circle party followed by formal night dinner that evening.  Looks like the alternating weather forecasts for the two week cruise was still holding true.

For our 50th anniversary (actual date) we did the 14 day Amsterdam Alaska cruise in August-September 2019.  It was a great day weather-wise when we visited Juneau.  The seaplanes are always fun to watch.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

We got off to walk around thanks to that great weather.  Besides you have to work hard to burn calories while cruising!

Thank you for today’s FR & D, Rich!  A cool and breezy 62 this morning. Today’s high will be 67 🤔 I believe @StLouisCruisers  your cold front has finally hit us, Sandy.

Vanessa, like @dfish I wish I could take a magic wand and make your pain go away. I am astounded at what you can accomplish in spite of the pain. Thank you for keeping up with us.

Bindi walks, chores, another garage door estimate, HIIT and wine tasting with friends. That might keep me out of trouble.

Prayers for all who need our support. @smitty34877 Terry praying for you, Tana, your families and your support teams. Especially that very tall teenager. 😎 Breathe.

@HAL Sailer Melissa, praying for you & your DH. Don’t forget you.

Cheers to all who are celebrating!

May we each find a reason to smile today.

Altaland Cabernet Salta

Consumers give this Argentinian Cab high marks. Easy to find and reasonably priced. Online prices start at $15.99.

Distributor’s notes

The Salta region in northern Argentina is home to world’s highest vineyards. Near the town of Payogasta, the Colomé Altura Máxima vineyard is planted at 10,206 feet in elevation.

Salta is part of the Calchaquí Valley, which benefits from more than 300 days of sun per year, subjecting its vines to considerable ultraviolet radiation. The valley experiences strong high altitude winds, even in the “lower” vineyards, which are planted at 5,413 feet. Because of these elevations and resulting extreme conditions, vines produce lower yields and thicker-skinned grapes, resulting in concentrated, aromatic and well-structured wines.

In a truly unique region, the highly aromatic variety, Torrontes, thrives; intense sun exposure allows full ripening, while cooling winds maintain the grapes’ acidity levels and phenolic balance.

Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Bonarda, Syrah, and, particularly, Tannat have the most potential among reds.

Upscale hotels, beautiful colonial architecture, a majestic Andean backdrop and impressive food and wine make the area attractive among tourists as well.

Salta is the fourth most important Argentine wine-producing region after Mendoza, San Juan, and La Rioja. Its oldest vineyards were planted in 1862.

James Suckling’s thoughts

James Suckling - "A pretty cabernet with currant, light herb and iron undertones. It's medium-bodied with medium tannins and a juicy finish. Linear and tight. Drink Now."

Good cold and cloudy morning. It’s 36 degrees and only going up to 50 and then back down to the 20’s tonight.
Tee Tee had a wellness veterinarian appointment this morning and then Tux the same thing on Friday. Taking them together is not a good idea.
I have been to Juneau many times and done whale watching and Taku lodge.
Blessings and prayers to all on our lists.

Morning, all!
Definite NO to drink, jury is out on wine and food.

have been to Juneau twice , 1989 and 2013.  Don’t think I got there by ship either time, but one of my favorite memories is from the harbor.  We were there for Independence Day, 1989.   Since darkness was very short-lived, they had to do fireworks at 12:01am on July 4.  Shot off at the harbor.   Instead of the customary “oohs and aahs”, all of the ships in the harbor would toot their horns.   The best fireworks were followed by many, many, many long and loud toots. We kept wondering what it would be like to be watching from one of those ships! It was truly a memorable time.   Still makes me smile when I think of it.

photo below is Mendenhall glacier in 1989 (top) and 2013 from as close to same spot as I could manage. Sort of sad to see how much it receded.

🙏 to all

Rabbit rabbit white rabbit!  I’ll take all the luck I can get now.

Family arrived fine, late night talking. But decent sleep. Now up to face this first cold day.

Alaska was our first cruise too. Hooked us. I hope we have another cruise in our near future.

Blessings all, those in need and those having fun. Gotta run, folks are getting up. Thanks for being here!

Well, we got some snow overnight and it is staying on roofs and the grass because it is just under freezing. I see @puppycanducruise had snow too. Just waiting to hear if @dfishhad any.

halloween was quiet. Only a handful of trick or treaters, mostly the kids across the street and a few others. So next year I go back to just getting them a treat and keep my door closed.

started my eye drops this morning in prep for cataract surgery tomorrow. I will look strange without glasses as I have been wearing them since grade 3! (1958 I think). Reading glasses that will be necessary don’t count since you don’t need to wear them all the time!

Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit.  Good morning from a chilly (41F) Boston.  Off and on rain predicted for us.  Nice collection of days, I’m not sure how many of you pet owners will be cooking for them!  Interesting quote.  The meal and drink sound tasty.  I’ve been to Juneau once, I’ll post a different picture from the Mendenhall Glacier.  Prayers for everyone on our prayer list.  Cheers to those of you celebrating happy events today.
