@dfish @Seasick Sailor i try to creatively use all of our leftovers.  I prepared ham for my family’s Easter dinner.  After dinner, I removed the majority of meat from the bone, placed it in a stock pot and covered it with water.  I used the ham stock to make two traditional PA Dutch recipes this week.  Monday, I made ham, bean and rival soup.IMG_0370.webp.b79ef19c001a68654c567abb4fd05c86.webpLast night, I made green beans, potatoes and ham.IMG_0371.webp.2f74218e0bdd229669d4a3401145d422.webpI do not use a recipe and did not take these photos.  Recipes and photos can be found on Savory Moments.

Positive thoughts to all who need them, here on the Daily and around the world.

Good Morning from a cool but sunny day at the beach

Yesterdays preedicted storm was just some rain. So all is well.

I have been to Galway a few times on land trips. It is a beautiful area. My relatives came from the Aran Islands which is off the coast of Galway.

Happy to hear that @Quartzsite Cruiser arrived home safely.

@USN59-79 and @Horizon chaser daughter are safe in Taiwan.

@smitty34877  You are a wonderful and caring person. I will continue to pray for your whole family. Take care of each other.

Received an email from my TA yesterday that HAL has changed the itinerary of the WC to avoid the Suez canal. I am very grateful that they made this decision early. I was very concerned and we were thinking we would cancel if it was going to go thru the canal. I am not brave ( or foolish)

Stay safe and enjoy today

Prinsendam arrived in Galway on September 2, 2016, which was a cool, damp day.  That did not deter us from enjoying the town.  We walked around town and also took the Ho-Ho to see places away from the town center.

It stopped raining but not sure we’ll see the sun. 35-45 so it feels cool and damp.

Glad for the good reports from Dailyites in Taiwan!
And I’m hoping Mike can improve in the rehab facility and not get worse like my SIL did. Sue must be exhausted!
I think Tana is so much better off with Terry @smitty34877and the family, hard as it is!

Prayers for these acute cases to improve!

Debbie @dfish I hope your eye improves today!  @Haljo1935 I wish the eye doctor would file with insurance, they might pay something. One of DH’s eye surgeries last year was supposedly not covered - we were told the stent/shunt/ drain implant procedure was only covered when it was part of cataract surgery which he didn’t need because he had that in 2009.  But insurance covered it all, the stent, the doctor fee, the facility fee and anesthesia.

Bruce @aliaschief love following your cruise, many thanks for your efforts to share it. It’s a joy for me!

@summer slope how are you and DH recovering?  And @cat shepard how’s your sister?

and @grapau27 how’s Sarah?

@Quartzsite CruiserLenda, sorry you and Steve had to make the extended push to get home but glad you made it ok. I learned not to arrive at the end of a long day, what I called arriving “cold, dark, hungry” with a lot of work to get the house systems spun up- heat, water, satellite etc. And there was always some glitch bro deal with, had to muster the wherewithal to problem solve.

I’m glad the storms didn’t cause harm to our Dailyites. More bad weather coming especially in the far NE and I’m guessing @kazu will have to deal with it, you must be so tired of it all… I think you need a vacation!

I’ll honor Victims of Violence Wholly Day but I won’t celebrate it.
I believe the quote is profoundly true.

I’ve owned a couple of Jeeps, one large one small. The years in the mountains everything had to be 4x4 but they weren’t all Jeeps. Over the decades Jeeps have been built by various manufacturers, not all of them good in my experience. My 1975 Jeep Cherokee was a lemon. But our CJ5 was a workhorse.
I like gin and I like champagne but not sure I’d like them together.

Blessings to all in need of healing, relief, comfort, strength, direction, hope!
💐Joy to all celebrating!
Smooth travels to all away!  🌅

My NC brother and his family are driving from yesterday’s funeral in PA to Long Island NY tiday for my SIL’s brother’s wake this afternoon. It’s 4-5 hrs and not easy getting around the city. At least it’s not raining!

May everyone have something to feel good about today🌈

Good morning.  Prayers and best wishes to all.  Sorry to read about the health issues some are experiencing.

Easter company went home last night.  I love seeing everyone but we are used to a quiet, calm house.  Great grandson is adorable.

Scary last night when electricity went out.  PPL projection was for lights on by Friday afternoon.  Fortunately lights back on in 45 minutes.

We will try to use up the food in the refrigerator today and watch a Mets doubleheader.  Have a great day!  Katherine

Good Thursday Morning Dailyites!  Computer says it's 48 and sunny.  It does not say it's windy, but it is,  ongoing with winds at 15-20 miles an hour with gusts up to 35.  Its my first real day off since my lay off.  May not be the best day to be out in the yard. Guess I will start on the bathroom project.  And grocery shop.

@aliaschief Your post says you are in the most expensive city in the world.  Singapore?  The other one was Geneva, but I thought that would be a very strange cruise indeed.

Your mini safari sounds wonderful-what animal are you really wanting to see?

@smitty34877Your neighbor was very kind to let the night attendant park in their driveway.  I hope you got a good night's rest.  And will continue to do so.

Leftovers.  the best are the ones made with tomato.  Spaghetti, Lasagna, something happens tp those meals, and the flavors have married, they are not so acidic on the net day.  I guess there is a way to make them for just two people, for one meal, but I have not figured out how. I did read in the googly news that chefs want to bring back comfort food.  So I guess my meatloaf qualifies.  And @dfish's beef wellington, @rafinmd's Baked Alaska were on the list.  Clams Casino were also on the list, Hopefully I can get some when we are down in Cedar Key this fall.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  Jeep 4x4 riding can be fun, but the topless days are limited here on the "frozen tundra."  I will honour all victims of violence, and clearly remember the day MLK was killed.  We usually have oranges in the morning, so that takes care of our vitamin C - if we feel a cold coming on, we pop a couple of tablets throughout the day.

It's cloudy out there this morning and according to the forecast, we "should" have rain for a few hours around lunch time.  I don't mind it at all, because it means it's not snowing and blowing.  I'm sorry to hear about the storms in the US and Canada, and feel for everyone in their paths.

Today is a day for gathering up all our income tax documents, packaging them and making arrangements to deliver them to the lady who performs her magic annually.  She's a farmer's wife with amazing accounting expertise, and over the years has saved us literally thousands of dollars.  She lives about an hour out of the city and we're more than happy to make the drive for her service.  I don't know if we'll get there today or tomorrow, but the sooner the better in my mind.

I'm happy to hear our Daily family and extended family are safe in Taiwan after the earthquake.  Also pleased to hear that Tana had a better night - continued prayers for her, @smitty34877's whole family, and particularly Tana's son.  @dfish I'm glad you went to get your eye checked yesterday; at least you know what you're dealing with.  @Seasick SailorI am praying Allen's biopsy results come back favourably, and that the cream helps quell the itching.  @Nickelpennyyou are hesitant to get a knee replacement; you sound like my DH who complained bitterly about his until he finally relented and went for one.  3 months after the surgery we were walking all over the streets of Tokyo and he was so pleased he had the surgery.  It's worth thinking about.

I'd like to try the drink of the day (will add it to my list), will let others enjoy the white wine, and could get into today's menu suggestion.  I grew up eating leftovers - we didn't have much money, so any food there was, was eaten.  My darling mother was very creative with leftovers so every meal looked different, even though it might contain the same basic ingredients.  For that reason, we're definitely having leftovers tonight.  I'm going to slice up cold baked potatoes, fry them in a little butter with green onions until browned, then heat up the ham and will make a coleslaw for us to enjoy at the kitchen table tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, in pain, in grief, and in wars not of their making.  Cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

French 75 cocktail:

French 75 is a cocktail made from gin, champagne, lemon juice, and sugar. It is also called a 75 Cocktail, or in French simply a Soixante Quinze. The drink dates to World War I, and an early form was created in 1915 at the New York Bar in Paris—later Harry's New York Bar—by barman Harry MacElhone. Wikipedia

Main alcohol: Champagne
Ingredients:
 1 oz Gin
1/2 oz Lemon juice
2 Dashes Simple syrup
2 oz Champagne

Preparation: Combine gin, syrup, and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into an iced champagne glass. Top up with Champagne. Stir gently.
Drinkware: Champagne flute
Served: Straight up; without ice

This drink is named after a WW1 gun. Does that mean after several drinks it has a real kick! 😀

Greetings from beautiful Port Charlotte.

65 right now, sunny skies coming up with a high of 77.

We had a front come through yesterday with 35 MPH winds, I manage to shoot an 80, considering the conditions I was quite happy especially after my lousy round on Monday.
I didn’t post yesterday because of an early tee time but I’d take a Yogi Berra quote over a Marilyn Monroe quote any day of the week.

Good selection of days but I’m not sure about the quote.

Leftovers again? Actually some meals taste better the next day.

I’ve only been to Ireland once as we had an medical emergency stop in Shannon on a flight from Athens to JFK.

I’m a big Tampa Bay Lightning fan and over the last 4 weeks they have been the best team in the NHL and will be tough in the Stanley Cup Playoffs plus we have the best goalie in the NHL.

Have a great day and stay well.

Go Bolts. Been following the team since they played at the Florida Fairgrounds!

Thank you Rich, Jacqui, Vanessa, Debbie, Dixie, and Ann for the ALMOST Friday reports.  Jeeps have their uses but are not good everyday vehicles.  MLK Jr is surely resting peacefully in heaven.  Vitamin C is important.

I like the quote today but have not been to Galway.  A great day in US History.

I don't really do leftovers as I plan my meals and make just enough for myself unless pre-dividing frozen goods into manageable portions qualifies as leftovers.  My alternative is Chilled Pear, Cucumber, and Melon Gazpacho, Oven Roasted Chicken, and Key Lime Pie A la Mode as served on MS Zaandam April 4,  2017.

Idishes04.jpg

I'm not sure how regularly I'll be posting the next few days as I have church AV practice this evening, echocardiogram tomorrow morning, and meet the cardiologist Monday.

Roy

Best wishes for your echocardiogram tomorrow Roy and hopefully you have a favourable meeting with your cardiologist on Monday.

Graham.

Green beans are the only leftover I have, and I'll probably eat them for lunch, with a veg burger. OK on the drink. No Albariño grown here AFAIK, so I might substitute a Grüner Veltliner, perhaps from Fulkerson's.

The s-n-o-w didn't materialize, but has been rescheduled for tomorrow. Rain will probably begin around 1:00 p.m.

A difficult afternoon coming, with three hours of class on Zoom preceded by an hour's conference on Webex. I don't have to participate actively in the Webex conference so I have in mind to follow it from a lounge chair, on my iPad mini.

Good Morning, thanks for the daily fleet report.  Today’s weather is a mix of rain, sleet and high winds.  Luckily I didn’t need to go into the office so I stayed home.  Work has been extremely busy with lots of projects from my new accounts.  Some of them were upset that I didn’t reply to emails while I was on vacation, too bad for them.  I took yesterday afternoon off to try and decompress.  We went out for an early dinner at the local Greek restaurant for a change of pace.  I hope everyone has a good rest of the day.

Good to hear Graham. I know you’ll keep an eye on her. Your and Pauline’s love give her the foundation to be open to love in her life…. like today’s quote implies, if we’ve learned we deserve love we receive it. m—

Good morning, Dailyites, I'm happy that things seem to have settled down a bit for those ailing, especially Tana.  We will definitely be finishing up leftovers tonight, then running the dishwasher and putting everything away.  DD doesn't use it, so it will be waiting for us empty when we return. Cleaning lady comes this morning, and Pat has two doctor appointments today, then we will load up the car, ready to drive to the airport at 3:30 tomorrow morning.  Ugh!  There are predicted to be big storms in Alberta so we'll probably get held up there like last year - hope we make it to FLL.  Early Spring is not a good time to be crossing the country.

We have been to Galway on a driving trip - the weather was terrible, we didn't make it to the Aran Islands as we had planned.  But I did buy an Aran Island sweater. It doesn't fit me any more, and pictures are pre-digital.

We will have internet on the ship, if we ever get there (!) so I will stay in touch.  And be thinking of you all.

Good morning. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

Jeeps can be fun. Interesting that Victims of Violence Wholly Day marks the anniversary of MLK's assassination. I will honor all victims of violence. Vitamin C is important for health. Interesting quote. Oh no, I have no leftovers here! Pass on the drink and wine. I haven't been to Galway. A good day in history. Today also marks the tragic loss of 3 police officers here on 4/4/2009.

It's cloudy and cool here, with rain/snow showers. Still lots of roads closed due to flooding, especially downtown where there are 3 rivers. Also lots of creeks flooding, threatening some businesses and homes. I'm fine. The person is here cleaning the rooms affected by the radiator leak. I've been up since 3:50AM, so I hope I can get a nap later.

@aliaschief Thanks for taking us along on your adventure.

@Haljo1935 Tough decisions between your eye procedures and your shoulder surgery.

@Heartgrove Good to hear you've come up with alternative cruise plans.

@summer slope Nice to hear that Mike is making some progress.

@dfish Sorry it's going to take a few days to see improvement with the eye. If it doesn't improve, go get seen again. I have some ham in the freezer that I was thinking of taking out, so maybe the first recipe.

@smitty34877 Good to hear you all had a decent night last night. I hope the calmness can continue and that Tana remains stable. Prayers for you all.

@Seasick Sailor I hope Allen gets some relief soon.

@Quartzsite Cruiser I'm glad you made it home safely last night. Great Galway photos.

@Lady Hudson Your great grandson is adorable!

@grapau27 I'm pleased to hear that Sarah is doing well; and a new boyfriend doesn't hurt!

@Vict0riann Safe trip to the airport tomorrow.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for those Celebrating.

Good morning, all! Galway was the first place I ever travelled to outside of North America. It was a land trip long before my cruising days. The potatoes we had at dinner one night were actually potato croquettes. They became a family favorite at home, and I always told the girls we were having Galway Potatoes. Thank you, Deb, for posting a link to potato croquettes on the same day we have Galway as a port!

I'm relieved to hear that @USN59-79 and family are safe after the Taiwan quake. DD has returned to Taipei. Her apartment is a newer building, and just fine. She thinks a book fell over on one of the shelves, but nothing else has even moved. She expected to come home to a mess. Thank you to all for thinking about her. We came over to Salt Spring yesterday to open the cottage up for the season. Lots of work to do here! DH is giving me the eye, so I should get going.

Happy Thursday, and stay safe, dry, and warm!

Good morning and Happy Thursday from a sunny Tucson. Yesterday was absolutely beautiful and today should be even more so. The snow on the Catalinas is beautiful. Even the Rincons have snow but that won’t last.

We had errands yesterday and a busy afternoon so I didn’t make it to the FR&D.

We have leftovers most often in the evenings since we eat our main meal at lunchtime. However, I’m not very creative. If I make something that has a lot of servings, like a casserole, I’ll freeze half. Right now I have a tuna noodle casserole in the freezer. Yesterday we had chicken tacos with marinated chicken from TJ’s and I froze half of the chicken for another meal.  I also made a bourbon cake, yum. Not sure what today’s meal will be yet. We do have leftover meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Since Craig is going out to look at vehicles (yuck) I think that’s what we’ll have. We have needed a new vehicle for 5 years and have put it off. Now it’s getting urgent so……..

I would love to try today’s wine and drink. I like the Dutch 150 on the BHB’s which is similar to the the French 75. Very refreshing. I also would like to try the Pinot Blanc that was on Bruce’s @aliaschief Chef’s menu. I don’t think I’ve ever tasted one.

Debbie @dfish, I hope your eye gets better soon. Did they tell you to do warm wet compresses?  It really helps. Just don’t put it in the microwave, just use hot tap water. (Plastic surgeons advice again).  She actually is an eye plastic surgeon. Oh and her DH owns a Jeep which he loves.

Joy @Seasick Sailor, give Allen a hug for me. I hope things get better soon.

Lenda @Quartzsite Cruiser, I’m glad you all made it home safely.

Well, I did something crazy the other day. I upgraded my flight to Dallas and back to first.  Not the flight to Waco (too short).  I felt like spoiling myself and since I had saved some $$ on the flight anyway I thought it would be nice. I’ll be leaving May 2nd for 6 days and probably won’t be able to post much. We have a busy itinerary.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi all,

I debated, but decided I would share the beauty of my eye with you.

Yes, I am using warm compresses, but I have warmed it up in the microwave.  I then wrap the warm cloth in a clean towel and layer it so it isn't too hot.  But, it stays hot longer and I unwrap as I go.  The warm compresses are helping.  This looks better than it did.
