The Fleet Report and Daily for Monday May 13th, 2024

Recommended Posts

Good Monday morning.  My day went out the window.  I was ready to leave to go to my specialist for a diagnostic procedure and the office called and the PA that does the procedure is sick.  They wanted to schedule for Friday, no way as we are short time for the cabin.   So I am scheduled for middle October and if I need surgery it will probably be in November.  Oh well no plants to move then just have to worry about slinging luggage in January.

Welcome back Rich!   Thanks for filling in for him Jacqui and Sandi.   Thanks for the maps each day Roy.   Croutons are favorites at this house, I have never been to Calaveras, CA and love Hummus but have had it rarely of late.   A great quote from Gould.   Thanks for the photos of Gaspe so far.

I will pass on the bean burger but of late I have been enjoying enjoying Bloody Mary's at Mariner receptions since they are usually in the morning.   Today's German Pinot Blanc sounds wonderful, wonder where I can find it?  Thanks for researching these for us each day ladies.  Prayers for @Nickelpenny today as she as her back surgery and for @RMLincolns DH with his follow up eye appointment.  Prayers for Tana and Chuck and everyone in our group who are ailing.  Prayers for all in war zones through no fault of their own, Ukraine, the hostages and the innocents in Gaza.

We are taking my older sister to dinner for her birthday today.  Her birthday is May 19 but we will be on the road to the cabin that day.  It will be nice because all of my siblings will be joining and my nephew who lives in Colorado Springs is visiting his Mom for Mother's Day will be there too.  It will be fun for everyone to get together.   Since I was all ready to go to the doctor I am going to stay inside and work and get all my last packing of food and meds done.  I don't want to have to clean up from being outside although it is a beautiful day.   Have a lovely day.  Nancy

Good morning, everyone!

We had some thunder bumpers roll through last night that woke me up.  I had a hard time getting back to sleep after that.  Good news is that the flowers got watered.  I did get the borders on the quilt and today I will drop it off for quilting. I have to clean the patio off again.  There is a tree that is dropping so many little seed pods that you'd think it was snowing.  The chipmunks are in 7th heaven with them.

I am with @LambKnuckles on today's meal.  If I am having a burger, I want the real thing.  Remember the commercial, "Where's the beef?"   That would be my question.  However, these do look tasty.  https://minimalistbaker.com/sweet-potato-black-bean-burger/

This one has some green stuff in it.  My only concern with these is that they can get pretty dry.  One sister was into a kick once where she wouldn't eat, buy, or serve meat, and all you got were bean burgers.  Some of them were like eating hockey pucks.  https://thenaturalnurturer.com/black-bean-sweet-potato-veggie-burgers-vegan/

Good morning Dailyites

Welcome home Rich. As you can see, Sandi and Jacqui took great care of the FR while you were sailing. Many thanks to our top 9!

Yesterday we took my BFF out for Mother's Day to our favorite Fish City. We had the Texas redfish topped with shrimp, crab, and wine sauce, with asparagus and cilantro rice. And bread pudding with whiskey sauce. And a bottle of wine.

Many prayers being said today from surgeries to checkups. Jacqui how is your foot?

We have dental checkups today and will stop by the market to decide what's for dinner tonight.

Wishing you a peaceful, healthy, blessed week.

This house already has jumping cats. I don't need any jumping frogs.

Veg burgers are frequent here but this particular combination doesn't sound good to me. I agree with no Tabasco in the Bloody Mary; if you want a glass of straight hot sauce, just order that. For the wine, Anthony Road 2021 Pinot Blanc, $25.99. "The fruit was field sorted to ensure that clean fruit was machine picked. The juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks and then aged in a combination of large format barrel and stainless steel tank.Aromas and flavors of pear, citrus, apple and parsley.

The wine presents itself as delicate, yet its length and enjoyment is long and persistent."

Grocery shopping and then preparing material for a class tomorrow evening on Wisdom literature.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  Welcome back @richwmn; you were missed, but left the FR&D in great hands while you were away.  I like croutons on Caesar salad, have never seen jumping frogs, and our friend Wayne makes the best garlicky hummus - enough garlic that we've never seen a vampire or werewolf, ever!  I like the quote, but here's the original:

image.png.f2c5aa944239ccf246e2fad382c57808.png

@Nickelpennysending prayers for you and your surgical team as you have your procedure today.

@RMLincolnadding prayers for your DH's appointment, hoping all is well.

A bright sunny morning again out there for us - skies are clear, and hopefully they'll stay that way, but with the forest fires burning, you never know how long the smoke will stay away.  It's frightening to hear that communities are being evacuated this early in the season.  After all the crowds that were out yesterday, I think DH and I will head to some of the grocery store greenhouses and see what's available for potted plants.  Looking at the forecast, I don't think we'll have to bring them into the house until maybe the weekend when the temperature will go down to around 2C.

I'm going to pass on the drink of the day; I prefer plain tomato juice with a squeeze of lemon.  Hard pass on the menu suggestion - as others on here have said, I also like meat.  I'll let others enjoy the white wine.  The other day when we were out, I picked up a frozen lasagna that will make it's way into the oven later this afternoon so we can enjoy it along with a Caesar salad (and croutons) at the kitchen table tonight.  And wine.

Smoothie.jpg.247f9d76aaa519a4f3746b8d97b305cf.jpg

Prayers for everyone who is in need, in pain, in grief, in wars, in the paths of destructive storms and fires.  Cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

What an odd collection of days today; although, I do enjoy croutons. Hard quick pass on the meal (prefer beef or pork), DH would like the drink & I would try the wine, last visit to Quebec was Oct '22 (no pictures).

Thanks to everyone who shared Mom photos yesterday - I really enjoyed seeing them.

Brother the older was delighted w/all the birthday wishes - thanks to everyone who sent them.

I really misjudged the potential crowds at the laundromat yesterday - I thought nobody would be there on Mother's Day.🙄 who knew that's exactly where everyone goes? Luckily I only needed 1 machine, but I did have to wait for it. I really need to get our washer fixed.

Prayers @Nickelpenny as you have your surgery today.

@RMLincolnI hope all goes well for DH appointment today.

@AroundWithMAPTravels thank you for the beautiful pictures.

@kazu how's the foot?

Welcome back @richwmn.

Today is reschedule next eye procedure - the office sent a message they needed to reschedule but didn't say to when. Also calling OT as they've not called me yet.

Did not look for aurora last night, but a local station reported it should have been visible all the way to So TX, so hopefully many people did enjoy a great show.

Currently 66° headed to 82° w/no rain until Wed pm.

Prayers 🙏 and positive thoughts for all.

Good morning. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily @richwmn and welcome back! Thanks to @kazu @rafinmd and @StLouisCruisers for filling in.

I like croutons and hummus. Not into frog jumping. Good quote. I like the meal, for a change from meat. Pass on the drink and wine. I haven't been to Gaspe.

It's going to be warm and sunny here. I slept well last night, about 7 hours. I will be taking BFF later for his perioperative clinic appointment. But he just found out they don't have the OR staff for his surgery Friday, so it's postponed to Tuesday the 21st. I feel bad for him as the sooner it gets done, the sooner the healing can take place.

@Nickelpenny Thinking of you today and prayers for a successful surgery.

@RMLincoln Prayers that DH gets a good report at the eye doctor today.

@StLouisCruisers I hope you get your dining situation straightened out.

@aliaschief Thanks for the photos from your safari.

@AroundWithMAPTravels Nice photos from Gaspe.

@smitty34877 Try not to overdo it now that DB and DSIL have left.

@marshhawk I hope you get good news from the Pulmonologist.

@ottahand7 Sorry to hear your procedure had to be delayed. Enjoy celebrating your sister today with family.

@Haljo1935 Seems everyone's procedures are getting rescheduled. I hope you get an OT appointment.

@kazu I hope your foot is doing better.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for those Celebrating.

We have several such switches in this house.  I did get one to work to turn on the lights under the cabinets.

@richwmn  Welcome back!  Your adventure was fun to follow and I'm sure you've got another all lined up for next year.

@Nickelpenny I hope all goes well today.

@ottahand7 Wow, that is a long wait for your procedure.  I hope there are no problems in the meantime.

@JazzyV  I feel for your BFF.  You're correct that waiting for surgery means a longer recovery time.  I would think they would want to do it ASAP.

@kazu Hope all is going in a positive direction for you.  Let us know how you're doing.

@cruising sister I hope this week is a better one for you.

@RMLincoln Sending good vibes for a positive report from the DR on DH's eye.

@Haljo1935 Good luck with the OT.

@StLouisCruisers I hope the new dining works out for you.  Sometimes I am just not hungry that early.

Good morning from a partly sunny day in SE Wisconsin!  Rain is in the forecast for later.  We had a nice time at our local beer garden yesterday!  Lots of dogs and people to watch!  I'll take a bloody Mary without the tabasco sauce.  The salmon bean burger sounds interesting.  Croutons are good, but no thanks to the hummus...it's a texture thing!  I have a quiet day here, DH just left to golf.  I may work on my next quilt project.  Just finished binding 3 lap quilts.  I have some fabric to start the next project.  I also need to get some ribbon to make a "taggie" to go with the baby quilt!  Working on another loaf of sourbread today...I haven't had much luck so far!😐

Welcome back @richwmn

@JazzyVSorry to hear that the surgery for BFF has been postponed.  Hoping it doesn't hurt too much!

@NickelpennyPrayers for you and your care team today!

Blessings on your day!  Karen

Good morning ,

Our sunny skies have turned to clouds but no rain so that's good. Yesterday afternoon DS came over and mowed the lawn, filled the hummingbird feeders, loaded the recycling in the car for me, cleared off a shelf in the bedroom closet so now I have some sorting to do and he called his grandmother so a successful afternoon. It was great to have some time with him one-on-one. I've finished up my puppy dog sitting and the Vancouver Canucks won last night.

Today is the pool for two water aerobics classes and then stopping at the incinerator where the closest recycling station is (we don't have curbside recycling being out in the hinterlands).

Have a lovely Monday!

Good morning all.  Welcome back, Rich!

We returned yesterday from our 30-day Japan to Seattle journey.  I read all the Daily last night to catch up on things and enjoyed the wonderful photos posted for Mother's Day.

Out there in the wild, there is a thread about compensation for missing the inside passage.  It was funny...we turned on the TV to see the course of the ship, just to see if we'd soon have sun on our balcony.  The ship had turned around and was headed back where we came from.  Then after awhile did a circle.  My first thought was, oh no, man overboard.  Later in the day, the Captain did make an announcement.  It seems course had been set to the course that the vast majority of the Alaska cruises do.  We didn't even know we were missing anything, having been to Kodiak, Sitka and Ketchikan.  That night, with the incredible Aurora Borealis over the open ocean, it seemed meant to be.

Anyhow, great travel adventure we had -- even the wild ride though the Bering Sea -- and now lots of things to get in order here at home.

Have a great day, everyone!

Belated Happy Mothers Day everyone. My Mom loved flowers growing in the garden as do I. We walked through the Volksgarten in Vienna enjoyed their immense rose garden.

Exactly 10 years ago, Gaspe' was a port call on the Maasdam, May, 2014, as we sailed from Ft Lauderdale to Montreal.

Does anyone know if HAL still sells their mattresses? If not, does anyone know an equivalent brand/model? I found an old CC thread (2008) discussing this and the were sold online at that time. None of the links seem to be active anymore and I couldn't find anything much in google searches. I vaguely recall seeing them for sale on board many years ago...

Anyhoo, we have been thinking of replacing our old mattress and our recent 28 days of sleeping on HAL's "Mariner's Dream" bed convinced us it would be a good choice for us.

Any insights are appreciated!

Good morning all!

Our weather has taken a turn, less sunshine and cooler temperatures (only up to the mid 50's today).  A few clouds but no rain, so that's fine with me.

Croutons are fine, and I've never seen a frog jumping but we do hear them a lot here lately.  Very loud!  I like hummus once in awhile and even had some last night at our Mother's Day dinner.  Will pass on the meal (where's the beef?) and the drink, but would like the wine if it isn't too sweet.  We have been to Gaspe once or twice.  It's a special place for me because it's the closest I have come to where my ancestors on DM's side come from.  I was delighted to see DM's maiden name everywhere we went in the town.

Yesterday was a very nice day for me, gardening most of the day and then dinner out with the family.  From left:  DDIL, DS, DD, grandson #2, grandson #1, DSIL, DH and me.  And yes, that's a Marlborough NZ wine I'm having. 😉 🙂

Sandi @StLouisCruisers I chuckled when I read what you said about people always sitting in front of you and blocking your view -- I thought that only happened to us 😉  On our last cruise it became a joke with DH and me.  No matter where we sat, and no matter how many open seats were left, someone would always come in the last minute and plop down right in front of me.  I have been known to change seats when that happens...

Here are a few photos of our visit to Gaspe in 2012.

I really enjoyed these women who welcomed us that day.  They not only were talented, but very funny too!

Good morning and Happy Monday. Welcome back Rich @richwmn!

I had a good Bloody Mary last week at Magnolia Table, spiced just right.

It went very well with their version of eggs Benedict.  A biscuit bottom and pepper bacon.

Bloody Mary’s are my vacation/flight drink. I don’t have them very often because they are very filling.

I have eaten a few veggie burgers but prefer beef too. I have to pass on one today because I’m starting my colonoscopy prep.

Gaspe was a port of call on one of my cruises but was canceled.

Thinking of Pennie today @Nickelpenny!

Yesterday’s lunch was nice but I think we will go out to eat next Mother’s Day. Also for there were too many people. DM’s 97 year old friend had invited 4 people, including her daughter, and none of us were expecting that to happen.

Have a great day everyone!

I totally forgot about croutons and hummus!  I love both. I don’t like the store bought ones that are in a bag. I really like restaurant ones and homemade. The best hummus I’ve had was homemade with fresh chick peas and eaten right away still slightly warm. I think I might make some later in the week. It makes a lot and I’ve actually frozen half quite successfully.

All this talk of food is making me hungry!

Good morning and thanks ALL!  Welcome back @richwmn   Thanks to @kazuand @StLouisCruisers for keeping things going and all the regular contributors.  It truly takes a village and everyone does their part!  So appreciate everyone’s contributions.  Don’t want to miss anyone.

@Nickelpenny hope all goes well today!

welcome home @AncientWanderer  glad you had a fabulous time!  The inside passage is spectacular and usually calmer so maybe that was the concern.  The aurora at sea must have been spectacular.   Truly makes one awestruck.

Unfortunately the smoke is still with us, sigh! But I’m so happy to see some wild wood violets!

Yum yum on croutons, hummus and todays white wine; that would be a wonderful snack or even a meal for me. Hard pass on the sandwich, black beans are about the only kind of bean that I dislike. A baked sweet potato with butter is always good.

My late husband was a lifelong model airplane enthusiast and had converted a TuffShed into his workshop. It has sat untended for almost 9 years now and it is quite full of junk and stuff plus very dirty. I am trying to get it cleaned out first then cleaned up so my son can make it into his man cave when he moves in with me. That should be around the end of this month. I can only work for an hour or so at a time so the clean up is slow but steady.

I have cruised Atlantic Canada 4 times but I can not remember ever porting in Gaspe. Is it a faulty memory or have I never been there; who knows? I am enjoying the photos. I hope to cruise Atlantic Canada again in 2025.

@kazuI am praying that yuor foot is healing and that you are no longer in pain. Please let us know.

Prayers for all who need them whether they know it or not.

Good afternoon from a still cloudy, but drier and warmer central Texas.  It is currently 81F.  It was a long day, but a successful one for the most part.  After we finished at the imagining center in Cleburne, we drove to Ft. Worth to do a bit of shopping.  Since they opened the toll road from Cleburne to Ft. Worth, it is a much easier drive to the part of town where we shop.  We completely miss I-35W and I-20. 👏   Now, the "wine cellar" aka closet and storeroom is restocked except for one wine which was not available.  The liquor cabinet was also replenished.  Our last trip to Costco, we bought a box of their house brand Cabernet Sauvignon and found we like it better than our old cardbordeaux.  Today, I picked up a case of the wine.

@RMLincoln  Maureen, I hope the doctor was pleased with your DH's recovery from the eye surgery.

@kazu  Jacqui, I hope your foot is healing, and you are experiencing less pain.

Nancy, I was sorry to read your procedure was postponed and will now have to wait until next fall.

@AroundWithMAPTravels thank you for the beautiful pictures.

@kazu how's the foot?

Elizabeth, I hope the next eye procedure was successfully reschooled and you got through to OT with a good outcome.

@AroundWithMAPTravels Nice photos from Gaspe.

Vanessa, it is always good to read that you are sleeping well and getting 7 or more hours of sleep.  I'm sorry your BFF's surgery was put off until Tuesday.  That's a long time to wait for surgery after a fracture.

No worry on that one.  It isn't being served.

Debbie, we have a couple of those switches here and in  Quartzsite.  Mostly, they are for a light kit on the ceiling fan if we ever install one.  A couple control one part of a wall plug, which is weird to me, but then the electricians who wired the house were not the greatest.

Karen

Karen, I'm glad you had some one-on-one time with your DS yesterday.  Not only do we not have curbside recycling here or in Quartzsite, but there is not place to take our recycling.  😒

Maxine, I read that thread just before coming here.  What a mess, but for me, I would not have been disappointed.  I like the inside passage that's in Alaskan waters, but the area between Vancouver Island and the mainland has too many trees and gets old after a few hours.  Sorry, about that to our Canadian Dailyites, but this west Texas girl prefers wide open spaces. Besides, many times, the ship is transiting that area at night.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Carolyn, thanks for the great picture of the family.  I also get the tall ones sitting in front of me.  Last cruise, I left a seat between me and the next person, and there was on on the other side too.  A couple asked me if I would move over, which I gladly did.  It wasn't a hardship, since I wasn't behind the person blocking my view of the stage afterwards.

Jane

Jane, I'm sure your DS will lave the shed as his man cave.  I don't think Gaspe is on too many itineraries.
