My trusted weather guru says to ignore the cone. This is a huge storm. So I hope people take it seriously- even if it remains a tropical storm.

My sympathies on the finger. It is good that you went to the surgeon. Glad it is not too painful. Stay safe.

Latest forecast for us in Charlotte County is for 40 MPH winds and up to 2 inches of rain, really don't need either with so many areas like North Port with saturated ground. Looks like Nicole will make landfall north of Palm Beach. You stay safe too.

I didn't post any photos earlier from our 2006 Bonaire visit with DD.  It seems we were enjoying ourselves so much we took more photos of the three of us than photos of the islands visited.  Here are a couple of my favorite photos taken that trip.

Good morning from beautiful Southwest Florida.

Very good quote and selection of days.

Not sure about the meal.

We have been to Bonaire, pretty island and part of the ABC islands north of Venezuela.

I can't believe Florida is going to be hit by another hurricane, only a Cat. 1 but I worry about all the homes that are tarped and if they hold up in 70 MPH winds, if not there will tons of water damage to so many homes. Right now Punta Gorda and Charlotte County are out of the projected cone but we still get some wind and rain starting tomorrow and lasting through Thursday

Well, I was lucky and was able to see the hand surgeon at 11AM yesterday. He looked at my finger and said it looked pretty bad, numbed me up pretty good and I didn't feel a thing as the nail just about fell off and he removed all the junk in the fingertip with various instruments, whole process took about 10 minutes. He gave me prescriptions for pain and swelling and said I would have a tough night sleeping, I made it through the night without hardly any pain and slept well. I haven't taken a pain pill but took 1 800MG ibuprofen tablet. Bad news is 4 weeks without golf, the 4th week we will be on the Nieuw Amsterdam so that will be good.

Thanks for The Daily, stay well and have a great day.

Happy to hear your op went well.

It is good you have a great cruise to look forward to.

Annie @marshhawkI'm sorry for your losses lately, and totally understand reflecting on your life at this time.  We decided when our second neighbor died unexpectedly within a couple of months time, that we needed to update a few things.  We have a brand, spanking new will sitting here now and will take it to our next door neighbors' house today to have them witness our signatures.  We used the software Willmaker which I believe @USN59-79mentioned not too long ago.

Good morning, everyone!

It is shaping up to be a nice fall day here in mid-Michigan.  Temperatures will be moderate until the weekend when they plummet.  It is that time of year.

@StLouisCruisers Sandi, the resemblance between you and your daughter is very strong.  It does look like the three of you were having a great time.  That is the most important thing.

Yesterday I ran a Covid test over to my brother and it turns out he is positive.  It seems to be a light case.  My DBIL took paxlovid for his Covid and now has a rebound case.  This stuff is nasty.

Galette (from the Norman word gale, meaning "flat cake") is a term used in French cuisine to designate various types of flat round or freeform crusty cakes, or, in the case of a Breton galette, a pancake made with buckwheat flour usually with a savoury filling. Of the cake type of galette, one notable variety is the galette des Rois (King cake) eaten on the day of Epiphany. In French Canada the term galette is usually applied to pastries best described as large cookies.

I have made King Cake and had quite the selection of those little ceramic figurines that were baked in it.  The person who got the figurine got to wear the crown.

The potato and fennel galette reminds me of some of the recipes for the tomato pie we all liked.  Some were the free form crusts that we see in this recipe.   https://greenthumbfarms.com/rustic-potato-and-fennel-galette/

1649595139_potatoandfennelgalette1.jpg.b9c46864391fb0c3e0f4733c4d0e3639.jpg

I only found the one version of the potato and fennel galette.  Galettes are very versatile and there is a lot that can be done with them.  This next one makes the crust out of the potato.  There is no fennel in this one, but I'm sure you can add it in if you like.  https://www.southernliving.com/recipes/crispy-potato-galette

2115372019_potatoandfennelgalette2.thumb.jpg.6194acb3805f07448e6dcc9ceb7db6ad.jpg

This next one uses leeks (just for @superoma).  It also has a pistachio crust that sounds very interesting.   https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/goat-cheese-leek-and-potato-galette-with-pistachio-crust

This last one has a rye crust and uses leeks and fennel, but no potato.   https://www.irishexaminer.com/recipes/?c-recipeid=5297

Wishing you all a wonderful day.  Time to tackle those boxes!

Good morning! We did early voting and it will be sure nice to be rid of political commercials starting tomorrow. Thoughts and concerns for our fellow Floridians on this

latest storm.

We have enjoyed snorkeling at various places in the world but in my opinion the prettiest was in Bonaire.

I dare say there have been a lot of pain, discomfort, injury, infection, procedures going on amongst us this week. I guess it’s called getting old and for that I’m very grateful!😃

If you haven’t done so get out and vote.

Thanks for the reports and chuckles. Have a grand day!

Good morning Daily-ites.  Jeez I have had 2 posts just go poof. Let's see how this goes!

Roy I'm hoping all goes well on your upcoming cruise and all those in the path of the storm.

I'm with Dixie. I could scream at all the election ads.

image.png.df63ada607dd90526a727b345e804e3f.png

Thank you Debbie for the Gallette recipes. I really enjoy them and you can make it many ways. I've made an apple and pork gallette and it was delicious.

We were in Bonaire last year and will be there again next month. Next month! Yikes time has flown by!

I need to get suitcases out and get my prepack list going. Luggage Forward picks bags up on 11-30. I have alot of activities I've signed up for here. Veterans Day luncheon, 125 people for our neighborhood Thanksgiving, Ladies luncheon,  Mahjongg and game nights... and more doctor appts..

Lifting prayers for my growing prayer book and all on our Roy's care list.

Good morning to all.I just returned from voting and enjoyed the cooler weather we now have.I love the quote and like the options  in the recipe.Radiology Day will be very much celebrated here as it found DH's blockage and he was able to get  it fixed.

@MISTER 67, I am so glad you saw the hand specialist and he was able to help you.

@StLouisCruisers Sandi, your family pictures are lovely.

@marshhawk, Annie,  I can relate to the soul searching after losing people.Grief is so strong at times.

I am trying to schedule my appointment  for the hip cortisone  injection .There is quite a wait.

Good morning everyone. I'm still having log in issues and have to log in with user name and password and only on my desktop. My ipad is a no go.

I can't believe Florida is going to be hit by another huricaine. Wishing everyone in her path to be safe.

I got a great report at the dentist yesterday and a great report at my oncologist last week, grteful for both. A radiologist saved my life back in 2015.

Hope everyone has voted or will vote today. I will be so happy not to see all the adds and emails asking me for donations. I get at least 3 of those a day.

Stay safe everyone,

Carol

Good morning friends!  It's a warm morning at 65F, with sunshine and 75 for an expected high today.  Perfect for voting, though we did that week before last.  I never want to risk being too ill to vote on election day or some other emergency coming up so always try to get it done ahead of time.  We already have turned in our applications for absentee ballots for a Dec. 6 runoff, just in case.  However they would have to be processed and mailed to our home and our final day receiving mail here before our cruise is a week from Thursday, Nov. 17 so there is a good chance we won't have a chance to vote again.  A real shame because every vote means a great deal to the candidates.

A day to support radiology seems a good idea since it's a big help in health care.  I don't drink coffee but for those who do I appreciate capppuccino.  It should be interesting seeing the galette which is the menu suggestion for today.  The quote goes on and on doesn't it?  Bonaire is a lovely island to visit on a cruise.  I'll post a link to Rich's post on Kralendijk on July 17, 2021.

Prayers for the many needing them here on the Daily as well as in our own lives.  I'm concerned for those in Florida in the path of Nicole and hope the cruise ships get out of the way easily.  Good luck to Roy @rafinmdand everyone on Eurodam tomorrow.  @MISTER 67I'm glad the doctor took good care of your finger and I hope your pain is easily controlled as it was last night.  I know you're anxious to get back to golf but sounds like it will have to wait.  @Crazy For Catsnice to hear about your cruise.  Hoping for smooth seas for you as well.  Cheers to all on the Celebration list!  Thanks to Roy for posting it.

Here is Rich's July 17, 2021 post with Kralendijk, Bonaire listed.

We were in Kralendijk the first time in 2006 on Crown Princess.  Our daughter had had a difficult year having just gone through a divorce and having three youngsters, so DH and I took her on her first cruise.  It began in San Juan and was a Southern Caribbean cruise.  Our second time there was on Westerdam in 2016 and we went drift snorkeling for the first time.

From our second trip as we loaded onto the catamaran for our drift snorkeling excursion (private CC tour).00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVJlxJ9ivgyJrpM4uPaWeE96?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium

We headed to Klein Bonaire to this area to begin snorkeling.  The current was strong and it wasn't easy to stay with our guide, so quite of lot of energy expended that day!00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVJqkyZnGYqlARCNQNY7972i?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVJMYrBypNkcEM7DJYefnoir?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium

We did this tour on a lark and didn't even have an underwater camera, but I can assure you we saw some amazing sights.  The fish, the coral and underwater plants, and even the huge sea turtles.  Loved it!

After the snorkeling we walked through the town and checked out the people selling their hand made items like jewelry.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVI61AlOa-8gKgWmytBZUapV?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium

It's a great stop on a Caribbean cruise.

Great photos of Bonaire. Have done that snorkel tour twice with no current issues; current as in water movement 😀

I love Bonaire having been there several times. It is the one Caribbean Island I would like to return to, and I don't snorkel.

My favorite place to snorkel in world because it is close by. Like Moorea/Bora Bora  better but it’s an extra 6,438 miles away!

Above all, don't lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love.--Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

This is one of many remarkable quotes from a very insightful book. Dostoevsky weaves his observations of life into dialog between characters and some of the best insights come from the least likely perspectives; just like in real life.

Here are a couple of shorter quotes from a somewhat cynical doctor character in the same book, since @StLouisCruisers felt like today's quote was a bit too long:

“The more I love humanity in general, the less I love man in particular.”

“I become hostile to people the moment they come close to me.”

Enough from the Brothers Karamazov; here are a few pictures from our Bonaire trip. I was surprised at how dry this island was:

Good Morning All- from a rainy SoCal,

And I’m loving it, but Mr Figetpants our Golden Retriever isn’t so happy. He’s missing his walk, and has been trying to convince me a swim down the street would be a good thing.

Praying for those in the path of Nicole.

I’m celebrating Radiology Day with an MRI this afternoon. Will await results to determine next steps- didn’t pass cortisone injections for a neuroma but in some ways it’s better, others it’s worse.

Am filing some of today’s recipes for future use. For another version of a potato gallate, see this Francis Mallmann recipe that we like with a steak.

http://girlinanapron.blogspot.com/2014/05/patagonian-potato-galette.html?m=1

@mamaofami You might email Cc help and ask for a password reset. It ended up working for me.

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning. Bright and sunny here today and much warmer than it has been. Dogs and I enjoyed a longer walk. It is much easier when I am not hauling a shivering chihuahua behind me. I dropped my ballot in the drop box the end of last week and a quick check this morning tells me that it has been received and counted. The worst thing about all those nasty political ads here in Durango is that they are not even Colorado. We are in the New Mexico TV market area and so I am deluged with the nastiness of people I can't even vote for or against. I have to read the political news for Colorado in the papers I get.

Am going to have to make some hard decisions in the next few weeks regarding the shelter and also whether or not I hold on to a cruise that I have booked. It may just be too long (and too many $$). On the one hand.... and on the other hand..... Whatever I decide I am going to just have to live with it. Or maybe I just run away to today's destination.... it looks really inviting. I tend to go for longer cruises since getting out of Durango to any port is difficult. But, I have to consider my age, my sister's age and the dog boarding issue. Or maybe I will just push decisions down the road a bit.

In confusion,

Susan

Good morning. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily @richwmn.

I hope all are exercising (or already have) their right to vote. At least political ads should be gone soon! A salute to radiology and the way it has enhanced medical care. I'll take a cappuccino! Good quote.

Maybe on the meal. Pass on the drink and wine.

I haven't been to Kralendijk, Bonaire. I've been to Aruba and Curacao on my Panama Canal cruise.

Good luck to those in FL and the southern east coast, as well as those trying to leave on cruises.

I woke up before 6, but couldn't see the lunar eclipse, so saw it on the local TV station. And I knew my favorite local photographer would be out and about. It was 39 this AM, going up into the 50's. I'll try to get leaves done today.

@4966and556 I'm sure you're thrilled to be picking up your new cat.

@MISTER 67 Yikes on the finger; I'm glad the hand surgeon got it all cleaned out. Do you know how the infection started?

@Crazy For Cats It sounds like you're enjoying your cruise.

@StLouisCruisers Lovely photos, especially of your family.

@Lady Hudson I'm glad to hear DH is doing ok post oral surgery.

@marshhawk Sorry to hear about the loss of so many friends recently. It does make one reflect.

@dfish Sorry to hear about more Covid in the family, but hopefully mild cases. Thanks for the recipes.

@smitty34877 I hope you can get in soon and that the injection helps.

@Overhead Fred @HAL4NOW Great photos.

@durangoscots Good luck with your decisions.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for the Celebration List.

Stay safe everyone.

A picture of the lunar eclipse from my favorite local photographer, Dave DiCello.

Good morning from central Texas.

There have been some serious complications with DH.  The rehab hospiital had been trying to lower his blood pressure and at times got it too low.  Yesterday, they became concerned he might have had a heart attack, so they sent two blood samples to a local hospital.  One or more enzymes were slightly elevated.  They transferred him to the hospital yesterday afternoon.  Tests revealed he had the flu, but that was not the problem.  They found blood clots in the pulmonary artery and going into arteries in both lungs.  He is in ICU and stable.  However, the cardiologist determined they need to go in and try to remove as much of the biggest clot as possible.  This will happen sometime between 2 and 3 this afternoon, and will take 1 to 3 hours.  He will be here for several  days, and then, hopefully be readmitted to the rehab hospital.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, would you please repost any of my pictures for a while?

Lenda

Good morning,

I got up to a light dusting of snow! Fortunately it's on the grass but the road looks clear. I don't need to head out for a couple of hours so hopefully it will warm up and be gone by then.

DH continues to make slow progress. He was seen by the PA on Friday and she ordered a chest x-ray stat as well as one to check his ankle with the broken bone. Stat didn't happen until yesterday morning (a sooner or later but not right now attitude) but when I got to Life Care I was told there was no sign of pneumonia and no broken bone. Just waiting for the facility doctor or PA (who only come 2-3 times a week) to ok taking off the boot and then try to figure out why he's so congested and his lungs are wheezy. Yesterday he worked on standing and that seemed to go well I was told. I wasn't there until 12:30 PM. I went to the pool for water aerobics and then for a much needed haircut! My hair is thick and I always feel I should lose 5 lbs after a haircut but the scale never shows it. Oh well....

Have a great day everyone. We did DH's ballot a few weeks ago and it was in the mail. I checked on-line and it was accepted. All of Washington is mail in ballot and I like that. As for me, I'm a Canadian citizen and permanent US resident so no vote. I do the research for DH so keep on top of things (sort of).
