Love Irish Coffee not the calories.  I remember drinking them in SF at Trolley Square and having probably one too many.   

 

The wine sounds interesting and it is a good producer.  I love the name - from Quentin Tarantino's movie Reservoir Dogs with Steve Buscemi playing Mr. Pink.   Even for a Tarantino movie it was disturbingly violent.   The scene involved the crooks working up their scheme and assigning their assumed names by colors hence Mr. Pink.  

 

Today is another special day - somehow it came up on one of the morning new shows I watch trying to wake up National Plan for Vacation Day.   https://www.ustravel.org/events/national-plan-vacation-day  A perfect thing to do for a snowy winter day - or any day!  Never been to Melbourne - I hate flying - I guess I can start planning a Grand Voyage there RT San Diego.    

 

The veggie bowls don't look too appetizing other than the eggs and the tomato.   

 

The young man who wanted my cat came and picked her up.  After being on her own outdoors for 2 months she was calm when crated and allowed him to pet her through the crate.  I talked to him about vetting later today which was her probably having fleas.   They are keeping her separate until she is vetted but he texted me a while later "she loves baths" after he gave her a flea bath.   I pray she passes the vet check.  They are thrilled with her, such a kind cat and I cannot fathom how someone could discard her or not try to find her through the lost pet options on Facebook.   

 

Prayers for everyone on Roy's care list, the three firefighters killed in Baltimore, the firefighter who is fighting for his life, my brother and DSIL as they both are battling severe cold symptoms.   He was supposed to get  knee replacement surgery but wisely cancelled when he began to feel ill.  He is fully vaccinated but DSIL is not at all.   I told him to go to immediate care first thing today.  He is 78 years old and overweight.    🙏

Sending prayers 🙏 for your brother and his wife that they do not have Covid and recover soon so he can get his knee replacement surgery.

Good afternoon everyone. I’m really late today. I lost my Amex card and saw I last used it at Dunkin Donuts and had to go pick it up. Also, another close friend died and I had to zoom the funeral. There were four couples at our condo and we did lots of things together including cruising and Florida together. It was a second wedding for both of them and he died of heart disease yesterday. Our friends are dying all around us.

I’m exhausted and will sign in tomorrow.

Our DDs were raised the same way, and their cats and dogs lived to a ripe old age and were greatly loved.  When a pet crosses the Rainbow Bridge, it so hard on their humans, that I can't understand  how anyone could abandon a pet.  At least those that can't keep their pets for various reasons and take them to a shelter hoping for a new fur-ever home show love for their fur baby.  It must be hard to surrender a pet.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily.

Interesting days. Not sure about opposite day. I like Irish coffee. In school, I was always told to speak up, as I was shy and tended not to contribute much, even though I knew the material. I got better about speaking up as I got older, but not great.

The quote is very true.

I have been to Melbourne, on my first HAL cruise, Auckland to Sydney.

 

Another day that I had to shovel snow off the walks. But it was a bit warmer and sunny. The sun helped to clear the walks completely. Now getting things ready for BFF's arrival this evening. Prepped the red cabbage for tomorrow, the sauerbraten is marinating, and I'll make spaetzle tomorrow. I still need to wrap 1 present, the German fruit nut bread, which has been hanging out in the fridge. Also continue to tidy up the house. Tomorrow the temps are dropping, with -10 wind chill by Thursday.

@StLouisCruisers So sorry to hear about DSIL's Mom. It sounds like she would not have had a good quality of life, but still a shock. Prayers for the family. Lovely picture of he and his Mom.

@dfish Love the quilt material. I have a quilt I've been working on for about 20 years, and never finished due to time and poor eyesight. It's all hand quilted. I need to try to get back to it and finish!

These are some photos from our second visit to Melbourne in 2007. It was July as I was teaching at the time and their winter. We once again were visiting my mate, Greg, and his family. On our first trip Sue and I stayed locally in Melbourne. Some of our activities included flying to Adelaide for the day and driving a portion of the "Great Ocean Road" to see more of Australia. But did travel to the St. Kilda Beach area one day that we also enjoyed on our first trip. While Sue and Senka were visiting wineries, Greg and I rode around Melbourne by tram. Greg had retired as an instructor for the local tram company.

How did we get this far into our Daily ports without having Melbourne to appreciate?  Our first cruise down under was in 2013 on Diamond Princess.  There were two stops in Melbourne.  The first time it was raining and windy so we bundled up and took our umbrellas and went for a walk. I believe we ended up at Queen Victoria Market.  Home to more than 600 small businesses, it's a great place to find fresh and specialty produce, handmade and unique products, great coffee and food, souvenirs and clothing.  Somehow I lost one of my favorite earrings during that walk.  Then the second time the weather was better so we walked to a nearby beach.  

 

But I think we enjoyed our third time there in 2017 while on Sun Princess the most.  That day we had a plan to walk to the end of the port area, cross the street and follow the tram line all the way to downtown Melbourne.  Most people bought tickets and took the tram but what fun is that?  It was actually quite a nice walk if you don't have any mobility issues.  This is the end of the port area where we crossed the street to the tram line.

 

And this is the building you go into to buy your tram tickets.  Looks like some crew waiting for the next ride into downtown.

 

This is the walkway along the tram line, which is on the right side of the photo.

 

And here comes the next tram flying past us going the other way.

 

 

Finally made it to the main road at the end of the tram pathway.

 

The Yarra River runs right through the city.  You can take lunch, dinner or day cruises on the beautiful river and be surrounded by the city.

 

 

 

Here is their aquarium.

 

This building says it's the Immigration Museum.

 

Near that was St. Paul's Cathedral

 

 

Honestly I can't remember what this was.

 

At this point we decided to turn around and walk back to the ship.

 

 

The downtown is really stunning.

 

You can see the Sea Life Aquarium across the river during the walk back.

That's when we heard this helicopter start up across the river.

 

A lot of people stopped to watch it head out.

 

The weather in Melbourne is very changeable and any native will tell you that!  We walked all the way back to the ship and enjoyed it very much even though we later calculated it was a 9 mile walk that day!
